i have never heard anyone say stills is their favorite guitar player. i was fortunate enough to see one of the few shows buffalo springfield played this year. hell, one of the few shows theyve ever played. ive been trying to tell people about how good he is
This is really great. It has saved me hours of trying to figure it out. Love your accent by the way. Where are you from? I am from a small town named Cowansville, in the province of Québec, Canada. Keep up the good work.
@lookn0ver I'm glad you removed the comment as you are talking bollocks. I watched Stills do it this way. You should learn to play before you open your face.
Thanks for the great video man. You have a great style, a great teaching presence, and a very nice sound. Digging the accent and thanks a lot for sharing that.
Thanks for this man, is that travis picking? I have difficulty learning new ways to pick, but maybe this'll help... Do you play "haven't we lost enough"? To me its the coolest picked song he ever did..Id love to see you play it..
You know when I could see... and using a tuner.. I could never get the notes to sound right. But, now that I have lost most of my vision... my ears tell me a lot more about being in tune... than my eyes ever dis... ha ha
i don't know if you are blind but.. I am legally blind. I have a hard time commentiing. But, Steven Stills is also my favorite. The modal tuning I have to learn. At 61 I have played their songs with my improvision. But I can hear your lesson well and now I am beginning to learn how... the delta style... is really helping me. Thank God for you Birts and the British invasion into my country. Thank you so much for your vidoes. I have been trying to do this song right forever.
Thanks for this, but why didn't you show the D chord picking ? There's only a few more chords left in the entire song, so why not complete this lesson?
its not the easiest, but its not the hardest either. the thing with the beginning phases is that its important to go slowly. very slowly. dont worry that you sound like crap. it will improve! you will sound better in time. just be sure to go slowly so you dont ingrain any bad habits.
This is my 3rd day playing a guitar im guessing that this isnt the easiest song to learn for a first song. But this is one of my favorite classic rock songs. I think I got the picking down and I can play the notes but doing it togeather seems to be the problem. Do you have any tips or exercises on how to train my hands to play in sync?
There's really not a terrible lot of variation from the studio acoustic version, Stills just picks the G section a bit differently than in this video. =)
great guitar work. The intro Stills plays on this song is always different each time I see or hear it, but his playing is superb and yours is evenly matched. I might be able to nail it someday when I get my head around it. Thank you for putting it across so well. Regards from Harlech.
I am a pretty fair fingerpicker myself but you blow me away. I have tried to play this song for years and knew the chords but it was always missing something. You showed me what it was that was missing. I too love CSN, among others and admire their many open tuned songs, etc. Do you have archives for others such as Guinevere, etc? How does one purchase your archives?.
Stills is a master player.... Thanks for this thorough and clear explanation of some of his tasty finger picking licks on helplessly hoping. I have been playing this song for years but now feel like I can finally play it in a way that sounds like the master.
great tune .... but im so not getting the picking of the G thus far...

The only change I'd make is the Am chord has an open G string, making it an Am7. If you listen to the original CSN cut, that's what he's doing.

A very good method of guitar video lessons. You use different angles, zooming and sometimes slowing the phase. thanks for posting.
