  • I am an ar57 owner as well as a ps90 and FiveSeven pistol owner. People continue to compare 5.7x28 to the .22wmr, these are people who don't understand ballistic coefficient. I shoot my 16" ar57 at 2-300y regularly with sub 2" groups and the only reason I don't shoot it further is the range I have available. 5.7x28 is ballistically 5.56 NATO short and was designed that way. You at home reloading can take standard 55gr .224 NATOs and load em in your 28mm case. Think of 5.7 to 5.56 as .380 is

  • I like the build but disagree with your comments about it's range/effectiveness and the way you preformed the point of impact test. I would much rather see a test for point of impact at 100m than a measly 75 ft. I am also interested why you decided it isn't capable at that range. The round was purpose built to defeat modern body armor out of a 12" bbl out to 200m and further to 500m without armor. We as civie's can't get the good high velocity from FHN here in the states but your shout out

  • @Mphillip105 - A) 500m?!?!? Where do you get your info? FN's website says that the effective range is 150-200m depending on the round. 150m is widely regarded as the MAX effective range.

    B) I shot at 75' for the video because my eyes are not so good beyond that w/zero magnification. It easily shoots 1 MOA at 100y.

    C) Even higher power ammo is available to civilians from Elite Ammunition: see my "5.7x28 and .22WMR Ballistic Testing FN Five-seveN and Kel-Tec PMR-30" video for some examples.

  • Where does the brass eject from?

  • @warjam19 - the brass ejects straight down out of the mag well.

  • @Jaireme1 - I'm not sure I buy that and even if I did, I would never take the chance. The ATF is arbitrary and inconsistent with their rulings and the penalties for not following NFA rules are just too big to chance it. Thanks for watching and the input though. :)

  • do you have to shoot sub sonic rounds with a suppressor or could you use regular ammo?

  • @Seal420123 - any rounds will work although subsonic will be quieter.

  • do you have to permanently attach the flash hider for the sound suppressor or can you just put it on and use with suppressor like with lock tight or something?

  • @AmendmentNo2 nothing wrong with being a geek my friend!

  • Do you see much of a POI change when you add the suppressor? If you do, is it a consistent change?

  • @nicholas306 - minimal POI shift, and yes the negligible change is consistent.

  • I enjoyed your video, t appears like you were firing full auto; but at a low cycle rate. were you using a bumb fire device or... I know the us laws and it appears you're locked on too so I'm just currious.

  • @bwfredette - that was not full auto or a bump device. It is a semi-auto rifle with a good trigger (4lb pull, very little takeup and quick reset) and I was just pulling th trigger fast.

  • Is there a picture of a Cylon on the mag well of your rifle ?

  • @quimbyt - yes there is a cylon on the magwell of my rifle...

  • @AmendmentNo2 Well how did you get that done ? Did the rifle come like that or did you have it made special like that ?

  • @quimbyt - when you make a rifle an SBR, the ATF rquires that it is engraved with the owners name, city & state. I had the cylong laser etched at the same time as my SBR etching.

  • Very good video. i see you have your short EO tech attached here. Do you think that an eotech 516 will fit with the same set up of back up sights that you have there?

  • @justinpman - I've never tried nor measured for that optic, but I doubt it. The AR57 has relatively short rail space.

  • very interesting and nice video. i enjoyed reading the post below, very knowledgable and respectful post. keep it real guys, take care.

  • So much fun to watch a gun review where the build is tuned to the user's preferences. Thank you

  • I have a Noveske 10.5 SBR in .223 what the advantages/disadvantages on shooting 5.7??

  • @alajreid257 - hard to answer that in a short post, but in a nutshell: 5.7x28 is hi-capacity (AR57 holds 50+1, the Five-seveN pistol holds 20+1), very low recoild, extremely fast & accurate follow up shots, purpose-built ammo is available for all uses, ammo is lighter-can carry more. Shoots extremely flat to 100m, can hit 2600fps out of the handgun!

Downside: for me the only one is range, I wouldn't use it beyond 100m, but then again I use it for home/self defense.

  • Very cool gun, but i'd imagine the stopping power with suppressor is about like a .25acp out of a 2" pistol.

  • @emwaver - you imagine incorrectly. The round that I shoot in this is the S4M from Elite Ammunition. Brass Fetcher did ballistic testing on it and said that it was a suitable replacement for .45acp rounds. I did my own ballistic tests (some of which you can see on my channel) and the round was absolutely devastating. It even penetrated a particular barrier that I shouldn't describe here and virtually exploded in the gel block behind it. This will RUIN anyone's day (or life)!!!

  • @AmendmentNo2

I believe you; I had been reading the wikipedia about the 5.7 round a few days ago; just double checked that the subsonic rounds I was referring to, SB193, aren't available to civilian market (it may be available like "LE only " ammo is)... it would take out the crack at least. subsonic makes a big difference in .22lr anyways (especially with home made suppressor a friend of a cousin's friend's friend had)

  • 120ft-lbs for the subsonic which is around 25acp; which i thought maybe you were shooting. S4M = a bad-ass 600+ft-lbs

  • @emwaver - Full disclosure: while I carry S4Ms, I was shooting SS197 rounds in that video which when shot out of the AR57 12" SBR, suppressed carbine, average 1969fps and 344 ft-lbs energy. I know it's hard to tell in the video, but in reality it sounds more like a suped-up air gun than a .22lr.

  • are suppressors legal in the us?

  • @8drewski - Suppressors are legal in the US, yes. Laws vary by state, but most states allow them and all one must do is pay a $200 tax stamp (and typically go through a FBI check) and wait a few months for ATF approval.

  • @AmendmentNo2 sweet!!

  • @AmendmentNo2

Few months, I wish! I have been on hold with this thing for over 5 months.... Nice review.

  • at first i wuz like "wait why does he have a p90 mag with an ar57???"

  • you go with a gun trust or a tax stamp?

  • @famasdan - I went with the NFA Trust - you still need a tax stamp trust or no trust.

  • @AmendmentNo2 Hmm now i heard the advantage of a trust is they dont have the same requirements as just getting a tax stamp like you dont have to get it signed off on etc.

  • @famasdan - the ATF requires a tax stamp for all NFA items. The trust allows you to avoid having CLEO sign off because the trust is the entity actually purchasing the NFA item, not you. You are simply a Trustee of the Trust.

  • @AmendmentNo2 Ohh ok i understand now, Thanks man helps to talk to people more knowledgeable online. Im thinking about gettign a suppressor. I mean if you did ever have to use youre gun in defense your hearing would be destroyed otherwise.

  • @famasdan - exactly. If I ever have to stop a bad guy, I wouldn't want to hurt his hearing. I'm just considerate like that! :)

  • simply amazing makes me envious

  • Wow, what a great looking rifle, guy. I'm liking the Cylon on it. Thanks for sharing!

  • @Wulfmancala - thanks for watching and yeah, I'm a BSG fan...

  • Where can I buy any of the part's in Texas ?

  • @m1569 - most gun stores sell the AR lower receivers, some sell the AR57 uppers. You can always order the AR57 upper from 57center dot com.

  • did u shave ur arms for this video? cuz the clay one looks like a gorilla was playing with clay..

  • @CycloneReaper45 - gonna have to call you Eagle Eye...

  • @AmendmentNo2 haha just an observation

  • dont they have a flip over type u can place in front of the window. a smail tube type? i thought i read somewere u could see 700 yards.?think was on combat rifle. net.??? figed that u could help get me started alittle faster on what types to look up 1st. like the 1st one i saw was 556 one. but not sure if can do what urs did.stay on target?

  • @shagonator2000 - sure you can use it out to whatever distance you want, butttt... if you have trouble staying on target with iron starting at a certain range, then you may have the same problem with the EOTech. You can only hit what you can see, which is why I prefer to have some magnification after 50 yards. As I said, my eyes aren't all that great now.

I use a Trijicon ACOG 4x on my AR15 because I use that at 100 yards. LOVE the EOTech at <50 yards though!

It all depends on your eyes.

  • what eo- tech do u think would be best for long range?on the mini sass . like down the road would like to mag it. but is alot to spend at onces. i like how urs stays on target.

  • @shagonator2000 - you're going to have to define "long-range". If you want to hit a target less than 4", I would not use it more than 100 yards, but that's just me. I like magnification for over 50 yards to tell the truth... my eyes aren't what they used to be and the EOTech is 1x power...

  • @AmendmentNo2

    Oops never mind then :P

  • *vids

  • @AmendmentNo2

BTW I love all the bids so I subscribed!

  • @idib1 - Thanks for watching idib1! :)

  • @AmendmantNo2

Hmm...so it costs almost as much as a FN Five-seveN. Hard choice to make

  • @idib1 - um, no, By the time I got done with the AR57 it cost about 3 times what the Five-seveN cost. Don't forget the optics, accessories and NFA stuff (suppressor & SBR). Just the upper & lower will be in the same range as the FsN, sure...

  • Awesome vid, thanks for sharing! What does an out of the box average AR57 cost? Sorry if it was covered, but I rarely read user comments. Thanks and keep up the great work!

  • @Falco66441 - you can buy a complete setup from 57center (dot com) for around $1100, but if you shop around as I did, you can find the upper online for $600ish and buy a seperate lower. I got a DPMS lower for around $200, then added on all the accessories.

    Thanks for watching the vids!

  • I like all your reviews. I've been looking at getting an AR57 on an Smith and Wesson M&P lower.

  • @LastStandforLiberty - Thanks for watching LSFL! As you were typing that comment I was actually at the range doing a little training with my FsN and continuing to get the feel of the new AR57 setup. I have to say that the more I shoot the rifle, the more I like it. It is quiet, has no recoil, holds 50(!) rounds and is accurate as hell!!!

It is fast becoming my only choice for home defense... now if I could only conceal carry it, lol...

  • im trying to decide weather to get an ar15 or an ar57, I love the idea of the 50 round clip, and it would be for a shit hitting the fan scenario. my only worry is that I hear a lot of people bash the 5.7x28 round. I guess I was wondering how effective the ar57 would be after 200 yards, I would be happy if I could get another 100 yards out of the rifle, So in short, would it be able to 1 shot kill at 300 yards or would that be pushing the limits of the 5.7x28 round?

  • @tireironman - the 5.7x28 rounds is an extremely effective round and it shoots flat to 100 yards. Personally I would not use it beyounf 150yards. I would stick with 5.56 for 300yds although anything over 200yds, my personal preference is a .308.

  • @AmendmentNo2 yeah thanks that's what I was thinking, I was just hoping the 57 would turn out to be a super bullet with magical powers just because of that rad design. I'm thinking of getting an M77 hawkeye .308 for long range and an AR-15 .223 or 5.56. Probably the M77 first because it's cheaper. I will buy an ar57 upper someday just gonna move it down the list a bit more. Thanks for the info! I Subscribed =]

  • I have never seen this type weapon before very interesting nice vid by the way

  • @psychic720 - noooo, it's a textured very solid, very heavy aluminum piece.

  • Glad I found this awesome channel! Subbing

  • She's a beauty. Nice vid.

  • @shad0h027 - Thank you sir!

  • Might have been covered in comments, but... I did not know you could "make an SBR" I knew that you could buy them and the long wait that comes with the tax stamp/ background check. So you are saying I can either get a different upper or change my barrel to an SBR if I get the lower etched and do the paperwork? I would love to have mine in a 14.5 inch barrel like the military M4. So that can be done? SWEET!!!! And after the tax stamp you can do the conversion your self?

  • @emtffzartman - Yes, after you get the tax stamp (and have your lower etched appropriately) you can buy a complete SBR upper, change out the barrel to one that is <16" or even have a gunsmith literally cut the existing one. You might also want to look into an NFA Trust, it's more expensive initially, but cheaper/more flexible in the long run (assuming you get addicted to NFA items like I did).

  • @AmendmentNo2 Awesome!!! Thanks for the quick and thorough answer. And by the way, I am super jealous of your rifle!!! It is amazing!!! Love that upper, and suppressed... even better.. Sweet stuff. Keep up the videos.. I am trying to get more posted myself..

  • @emtffzartman - I'm looking forward to checking out your videos when I have some time. I will have one more posted within the next week that will be be a review of my AR15, it's accessories and of course a suppressed vs. unsuppressed comparison...

  • @AmendmentNo2 Thank you, I try to do my best with them, but budget is always an issue with getting new toys.. lol I hope you enjoy my videos. I will continue to watch yours.. us YouTubers need to support each other..

  • who makes that gun

  • @MrBROOKS1718 - go to 57center dot com

  • Before anyone asks, both the 5.56x45 (.223) and the 5.7 round both shoot .224 diameter bullets, so the suppressor is good for both.

  • @SporadicallySane - yes that is correct, a .223/5.56 suppressor will work with the 5.7 round which is .224.

  • Nice sound effects and credit music, Pop. Loving it. This is my new favorite video - aside from Gun Porn, of course. Maybe we should make a new gun porn video specifically for this gun. It certainly has the badass factor.

  • thanks for sharing, love the gun, fn is a amazing company, a bit pricy but you get what you pay for.

  • Was the clicking after you fired the AR57 the trigger resetting? If so that thing is really loud.

  • @llamalord111 - yes, the click is the trigger reset. The camera (Canon VIXIA HFR21) has a really sensitive mic and it processes sound in strange ways. The click is no where near as loud in reality. It also reduces the sound of the unsuppressed gun firing while it raises the click and the suppressed fire levels. I don't think I can adjust it either, back to RTFM before my next video...

  • @AmendmentNo2 Okay thanks for the reply, I'm glad to here it doesn't sound like that in real life.

  • OMG DID YOU SAY SHTF OMG THATS LIKE EVERY WEAPON I GET, THE REASON ENGLISH WHAT IS THAT I DONT KNOW ZOMBIES AND LIKE TACTICALBLACK EVERYTHING SHTF VS BLACKBEAR????? SHTF SHTF OMG WANNA SEE MY BUGOUT BAG???? SHTF TACTICALBLACK. EVERYTHING!!! SHTF OMG CALL OF DUTY BRB. YOUR AWESOME (SHTF)
  • @UTLonghornPistol - maybe I sould have worn bermuda shorts to offset the tacticoolness??? :-p

  • @AmendmentNo2

    Hehehe : p

Excellent shooting at 25 yards, sir. Your point of aim definitely shifted, no doubt. It shifted from going through the same hole to going through the other same hole. ROLLINGONTHEFLOORLAUGHINGMYASSOFF

  • love the hd cam. sweet weapon. dam i invy u thats nice gun did u get stamp for auto too, saw 3 stamps u would need ? shorty barrel, supresstion , and auto , ? right.i would like to make my sassmini full auto. not sure if can be done to it. or what to do for atf form ether?did u send ur own papper work?or did u use dif type of ffl dealer.that will be next big deal for me .1st wanted to feel out the dif cal so i know what was up agaist.lol but like that 5.7 i see what u meen. it pitts the ace!

  • @shagonator2000 - nope, did not get a stamp for F/A. The stamp is only $200, but a F/A lower is going to cost in the range of $10k-$15k. A little, no, a LOT too rich for my wallet...
