thing is, Karl i always almost right and "close but no cigar" kind of... The problem is not that Ricky points it out, it is cause he fails to recognize the truth behind Karls twisted logic.
What is funny is that what Karl said about the polar bears and indeed any animal is somewhat true. While you can't breed many endangered animals as easily as domesticated animals we eat, it is a genuine idea floating around among people, it's not just his crazy little mind.
To be fair Karl got a point. From an evolutionary perspective chickens and cows benefited greatly by being useful useful to humans. As there are not for example more chickens in the world then any other bird and they are protected from there natural predators. It's a bit like a symbiotic relationship.
However if chickens are better of in a cage or in the wild can of course be argued.
@ybra This is a fair point, so I'd like to clarify what I think you're saying. There is a difference between the animal's welfare and its evolutionary success.
In evolutionary terms, livestock are doing phenomenally well--their numbers are staggeringly high. However, this is unrelated to the question of the animal's welfare--presumably caged chickens lead rather unpleasant lives.
So animals "benefit" in the evolutionary sense (meaning they reproduce in great numbers) even if they suffer.
@ChalkiePerfect I absolutely agree with you that some of our farming methods are cruel and we ought to do better.
But at the moment, the way for an animal to succeed evolutionary is to be useful to humans. If we also factor in welfare, I think the most successful animal is the dog and cats. They exist in great numbers, we give them food and they have no predators. All because they are great at being pets.
It's not the fact that he occasionally brings up facts. It's the absence of a source. When he thinks he's found a good source of information it's on a tin of beans or heard from someone, somewhere vaguely at any period of time.
@Artsy19Girl the (byson) were deliberately over farmed I do believe. Although in your defence I think the Galapagos(maybe) turtle was farmed to extincion. Aparrently because of its good taste.
@monox2k I guess I provoked that comment by trying to be a smart arse. fair point, I shouldn't have used the word farming, but you still understood what I was saying :P
In South Africa, Lions and other animals have been taken off the endangered species list because of them being bred for hunting and for food, so Karl's right about the Polar Bear thing
@billthecat666 I knew that dogs did that (in addition to the dogs that were brought over that hunted grown dodos as well) but I didn't know cats did as well. That's interesting.
@BillandBenRgangstas yeah, he is right. some people believe the dodo died because they nested on the ground and rats brought on european ships eat them.
@BillandBenRgangstas yeah but it's how Karl tells the story, he says it matter-of-factly like he was there, and in reality it's just something he read about. And usually didn't read into it too well, or bother to further reference. Which is why he's hilarious, of course.

Karl is correct about the Dodo being nasty to eat.
Ricky is a moron. The introduction of rats and pigs killed Dodo's off cause they nested on the ground.
Only still idiots believe the myth that people ate Dodo's into extinction.

@LoveMeSess Bison weren't over farmed, they were over shot. Unless you consider hunting some sort of farming.

this is about domestication. He reasons that if the dodo had tasted good people would have domesticated it and raise it as livestock like chickens.
Karl is a genius that just doesn't know the correct terminology.

Dodo's were also killed by rats from the ships.

Dodos were also beaten to death because they were slow and stupid and considered a nuisance.

they thought it tasted alright, its just apparently there was barely any meat at all, mostly bone so they found it iritating and just left it.

Dodos weren't farmed. Europeans brought pigs on the island and they eventually ate all the dodo's eggs.

Right, it wasn't just pigs, it was pigs, dogs, cats and rats that plundered the dodo nests.
