Izzy didn't wanna feel dictated to by axl, and while getting clean, his bandmates' continuing drug abuse and partying scared him and alienated him. Plus, he didn't feel Matt fitted in like Steven did. So I think he felt really isolated, and that he wanted out already while working on the UYI stuff. He cleaned up way before any of the others, maybe as early as late 89. Oh, and both Axl (at least to some degree) and Slash have largely disowned their criticism of what he did in the later years.
For those who don't know Izzy sang 14 Years, Dust N' Bones, You Aint The First and the album version of Double Talkin Jive. Played many leads, started the band, wrote most of the songs and is the only member to have appeared with new GN'R, Velvet Revolver and Adler's Appetite and has just released his 10th solo album.
Axl wants to say from which "Use Your Illusion"-Album the song is, then he gets unsure (or is it a joke?) so it sound's like "Use your ill..eerrrmmm.....hmmm...one of them - 14 Years!". got it? ;)
this wasen't Izzy's last concert with Guns N' Roses, he played with them during the "Skin N' Bones" tour in 1993 when Gilby injured himself in an motorbike accident...
I remember jumping over at least 3 rows of people when the band came on, lost a trainer near the front, was very, very fuckin lively up at the front. I do remember the toilets were 6 inches deep in piss and that trying to find your mates after a piss was solid. Also even though I was a massive axl fan I do remember being impressed with izzies singing, this is a particularly shit song though! the use your illusion material on was shit and with band bickering fiinished this once awesome band.
you cant take a key member out of a group that popular and talented and expect them to keep on producing, ever notice why everything after use your illussions sucks, cause izzy wasnt there colaberating. duff axl and slash are so talented but izzy brought out the best in all of them in my opinion. gnr 4 life
i know like axl totally fucked up the biggest band in the world, then he's afraid to face the public for nearly a decade, then returns all fat and plastic lol,
but anything thats hyped up for as long as chinese democracy has been, is bound to be disappointing or even a let down...
Last fuckin' Izzy's show as an official member !!!!! Axl though that givin' Gilby 2nd guitar this would authomatically inherit Izzy's songwriting skills... this is the beguining of the end of what was once a great band.., Izzy a genius, Axl a jerk....
nirvana is a good band my friend ...but guns has great music !! i can`t see nirvana playing an epic song like stranged ,breakdown or locomotive !! guns is music for people that dreams, for me nirvana is great music but sometimes just for kids !!!
you're totally right. Izzy's a fuckin' genius, axl sucks (and the new gn'r sucks too, without izzy, matt, duff & slash!). Izzy also made like 6 solo albums and the new gn'r made... none!
@mrinalbuffy123 Axl's temper (his attitude towards the band and people in general) and the lifestyle of Slash and Duff (still drugheads at the time) were enough reasons to leave the band.
GN'R was a bomb of time since the beginning. Thing is it got to explode eventually but those 5 guys managed to stay alive in the end.
@Papatorrejano, whatever Axl's attitude towards "people in general" (if ever there was a generalization, thats one), he tried to get Izzy to stay & Izzy has acknowledged this.
But Izzy didnt enjoy for how big Guns N Roses had become & the endless pressures that came with this- this was one of the reasons he left. he likes to do things low-key & his solo records & tours have been done in an off the radar kind of way.
Becoming a control freak doesn't help much too. Giving Izzy a contract to sign in order to cut his percentage of royalties down. Pretty fucked up. Once Izzy gives him the finger Axl tried to convince him not leaving the band.
I recall listening "Shuffle it all" on the radio for the first time and felt happy for him. To this day still listenng to his latest itunes releases.
@Papatorrejano, according to people like Lon Friend who got the chance to observe Axl closely before & during shows & talk to him on the subject, Axl started shows late because he refuses to go on till he feels 100% ready. he's a nervous performer & he refuses to give a half-hearted, "lets get it over with" gig. he has had to pay late fee for violating curfew for decades. if he was a typical "rockstar" only in it for money, he would have chosen the MUCH easier option & gone on early.
@mrinalbuffy123 A much intelligent move would be to announce the beggining of the show at midnight if he feels that way. Saves money and avoids to upset people in the audience.
@Papatorrejano@Papatorrejano, it wasnt just Axl who complained about Izzy's apathetic approach. Slash said that Izzy's work in recording UYI was so half-hearted he had to re-record many of Izzy's parts. Axl's contract to pare down Izzy's percentages was probably meant as a shock manuveur.
Slash said in 1993 that he "never liked playing with Izzy". apparently tensions ran deep in the line-up & it wasnt all centered on Axl either.
its great that Izzy kept releasing music-he's very talented.
@mrinalbuffy123 Those tensions were pretty evident since day one. Happens in every group of people. If there's no self-criticism there's no possiblity to overcome problems.
More drama to come when RN'R Hall of Fame inducts them.
@Papatorrejano, exactly there were tensions from day one and as i said they existed among individual band-members, not just between Axl and the others. for example, Izzy citing Slash and Duff's wild drug/alcohol abuse as one of his reasons for quitting and Slash proclaiming that he never liked playing with Izzy and found his style very irritating.
however, the trend for the media/many fans is to blow up Axl into some cartoonish monster and never look at factors concerning the other guys.
@mrinalbuffy123 Seeing as Slash recorded "Ghost" with Izzy (from his first solo album) and basically saying that something "magical" happens everytime he and Izzy play together, I personally very much doubt that he would have said that he found Izzy's style irritating. He didn't mention anything about that in his book.
@mrinalbuffy123 its funny because i read and heard slash say "If you want to listen to the foundation of a guns song listen to Izzy's track" and he Invited him on his record and said they had a distinct rhythm lead sound id like to see where you got that info
@mrinalbuffy123 Axl wanted Izzy to sign a contract saying that he would play less and get payed less. Izzy seid so himself in an interveiw and he thought that it was it was not fun anymore.
So yeah Axl did have a lot to do with him leaving!
@harrypotterfan4671 If you read Slash's book, he says that he completely backed Axl in paying Izzy less. So it was not only Axl who was behind that contract. It was Axl and Slash and probably Duff too. Of course the BIGGEST reason that Izzy left the band was because he wanted to get clean of drugs and he couldn't do that in the band because Slash was a hopeless heroin addict and Duff an alcoholic. Izzy left for his health.
@mrinalbuffy123 well i shuldnt respond to a 2 years ago comment, but u should read the story, axl is a genius a s a musicians, but he was a dick with the band...

I was there, great gig. Better than their 92 show and the Milton Keynes show. Skid Row were also awesome. Classic moment when Seb Bach wipes his arse on the letter that Brent Council wrote to him!!

He must not be because the band went to shit after Izzy left. Gnr always needed Izzy. This guy is clueless!

jesus. izzy was the best fucking writer in the band. why do you think they had to do the spaghetti incident which is a bunch of punk cover songs?? because they couldnt write good songs without izzy. dont talk about shit you know nothing about
