Well I'm not a fan of anything Morrison has done since Animal Man and Doom Patrol, but the point of the gun was just how serious of a threat Darkseid was.

Final Crisis was still better than his X-men run which sucked

Everyone talks about Jack Kirby's work with Marvel, but his later work with DC is just as worthy. He was firing on all cylinders when he created this stuff.
