What do you think of 6:33-8:39? One of the best things I've ever listened to. How could Mozart have the imagination of putting this celestial music in the middle of this Finale of profane melodies?
I have nothing against Thomas Hampson really, but I find his face to be very punchable. I just wanna punch it.... Actually I don't like him in general. Not sure why. This is a random comment.
It would be nice if Hampson could sing in tune and if he didn't flub every passage requiring a bit of technique. Sometimes I wonder why this guy has a career.
This said, I am delighted to see Furlanetto has lost none of his exuberance or charm. I love him!
Well, if domingo sing Simone, Hampson why not as D.G.. Only that Hampson was always a tenor with no high notes with a mediocre voice. If he heard Siepi singing this role, he will never attent to do it. He is a joke !
Uhm..I don't think so, on her website they say she's an "Austrian singer". But I am not quite sure about her descent, because they don't mention anything about this.
well...lookin at his style and way of composing, its hard to beleive how he composed wit miraculous ease. thats y i called him divine...but i do see ur point too :)
Historians know that he worked over manuscripts, moved sections, changed details over time in the manner of Beethoven and other composers. They also have evidence he was an intelligent man who knew many subjects. That almost no one else is a great as he is makes sense. Some people like Glenn Gould put him down but not many. I agree that the results sound perfect (maybe, because they usually are!). Thanks for commenting.
God theyve all become old!!! furnaletto sounds still ok but hampson? i really liked him in this role before but this is just not good...and theyre not really singing with passion at all, but thats perhaps also because its a concert performance.
You would think that Thomas Hampson would be the perfect Giovanni. Not so. Hampson's biggest problem here is that the young Masetto Boaz Daniel has a richer, firmer voice. When Tibbett was cast as Falstaff late in his career he "protested" the young Leonard Warren as Ford. He didn't want him to do what he had done to Scotti so many years before. Hampson should have "protested" Daniel.
Good lord. A younger baritone is not his biggest problem. He can hold his own. As for any apparent decline: He just thinks too much about how he sounds. He ends up making weird, unsupported sounds a lot in some bizarre search for resonance.
NO doubt about it--regardless of what you think of individual singers--Mehta has a way with Mozart! His video of Die Entfuehrung a sheer delight. Viva Mehta! He brings out warmth and humanity, he loves the characters as Mozart and da Ponte did.
Well, its the golden oldies leading the pack again. Gruberova and Furlanetto are heads above the rest. Hampson is barking to make it sound like he has some power. Schade has gained weight but no depth since I saw him in the house. Elvira and Zerlina are fine, but not WOW!
Thanks for the correction! That source publishing the cast of this this event online was obviously quite wrong! I'm not very familiar with either singer...but I was sure that I saw Kirchschlager on a fairly recent Opera News cover and I remember her being a brunette.

I love how Mr. Hampson smiles to himself at the beginning. It's like "Hee hee, I just sang offstage! I'm so cheeky..."
Best thing on Youtube --except part 2 :)

what do you mean "just sang offstage?"

The enterance of the Don always thrills me. Ildiko Raimondi is absolutely beautiful. This is a fine performance.

Everyone sounds great, but the Masetto is having trouble breathing with his really easy part. Is the Zerlina related to Ruggero Raimondi?

Just wonderful. A great interpretation. One can't believe that this was a live performance because it sounds as perfect as a studio recording.
