  • The first year after she left the Supremes,Diana's carrer went into a stall.I remeber in a question & answer column one person wrote in asking whatever happened to Diana Ross?It did get better later on of course, but it never did stop for the Supremes, As for the charts,a number 1 is great, something in the top ten is nice, but anything in the top thirty would sell in the millions and be classified as a hit. With Diana, the Supremes only had three number one abums, and they recorded over 24 of them

  • In addition "aimperator", The Supremes Never Charted a Top 10 again after Jean Terrells Departure

In the 7 Years The Post Diana Supremes existed, Diana had 3 Children, Filmed 2 Motion Pictures won a Tony, Golden Globe, 5 American Music Awards, Billboards Performer of the Century as well as an Oscar Nomination

And you were saying Diana "Did Nothing & her Career went into a "Complete Stall"?

  • Not Likely aimperator, The "Supremes" would have just had Different Names, Betty. Thelma, Lou Effie, The result would have been the same.

Obviously you memory is impaired too aimperator, 1970 Gave Diana Ross her 13th Number 1 Hit (Ain't No Moutain High Enough), While "The Supremes" had a 1 Number 10 in 1970 (Up the Ladder to the Roof)

In Fact "The Supremes" had only 2 Top 10 Showings in 7 Years, while Diana had 4 Additional Number 1's During the Same Period

  • The Andantes were the props. Mary and Cindy were the Supremes. Without them, there would be no group, and Diana could never carry it on her own. People tend to forget that for the first year after her departure, she did nothing, her career went into a complete stall. It never stopped for the Supremes though.

  • I think people are nuts. This song is one of my favorites by 60's DraTs

  • I remember watching them when theywere on Ed Sullivan perorming this song, I would assumd they would have done he complete version, since it was the record they were promoting, but I didn't remember. i always watch them when they were on, but on oter thing, I can't remember seeing them on there perfoming Some Things You Never Get Use To. Thats another one I like, but it would have sounded better with the Supremes dingthe backgrond vocals.

  • I don't think this song got the airplay it should have. I can remember them doing it on Ed Sullivan, but they did an abridged version of it. At that point the records were no longer important anyway, the focus was on Diana Ross upcoming solo career. I think its a good song, its definately included in my collection of Supreme's records.

  • @aimperator I love this song, too. Actually, their abridged Sullivan performance was that way on the Sullivan classics repackaged DVDs. But when originally performed on his show, if you get a chance to see or get any of their bootlegged performances on his show, they lip-synch the whole song.

  • This song is tragically underrated, I mean it's an original idea especially for Motown and yet most people don't even know they made it.

My star sign: Cancer. If I was born one day later I would have been Leo, and that would be so much better :(

  • Super Song !

  • Stupid song. Lousy arrangement, It doesnt stand the test of time and is beneath the talent of the Supremes.

  • It's so obvious that Mary and Cindy are nowhere to be found on this record!

  • @Drillin4Oil Out of all their mostly weird-sounding Supremes songs backings, I thought that overall The Andantes did some of their best work "approximating" Mary and Cindy here. Kind of like I thought they did well on "Some Things..." Of course, would've been best with Mary and Cindy's own great, real voices. On most records backing Supremes and anybody else, The Andantes don't even sound like real singers--they sound unnatural.

  • @italoman9 , Puhleeez, the Andantes sounded far better than Mary and Cindy.. They really did.

  • @italoman9 , Mary and Cindy were just props..

  • @Drillin4Oil , And they weren't missed either. I sure didn't miss them. They were for the most part just props at this stage in the game.

  • love ti ong sex and nice dnce song go grls

  • I love this song immensely and often come to hear it here. Diana vocals are breathtaking, the melody and arrangament are superb, the two other girls also play a great part. This should have been Nr. 1 on several charts.

  • Hippie Surpremes

  • I wonder why this wasn't a number one

  • @Motownman100 I've also wondered why this didn't do better. I'm sure purists don't like it because it had the Andantes singing background, but it's actually quite a good song.

  • @shmuli9 agreed !

  • @shmuli9 i love this song but i think the reason it didn't do better at the time was because it's kind of gimmicky and it seemed as though the supremes were just trying to sound like the other artist who were playing around with psychedelic sounds.

  • @empire9898 Perhaps... but if all those "other artists" had big hits with similar songs, it follows that the Supremes should have as well...

  • @shmuli9 i agree especially with this song since this is a really good song. I think the problem lies in the fact that this isn't the "Supreme Sound." Also i think some songs get better with age because in Mary Wilson's book she said she hated this song and she was glad she didn't have to sing on it.... i never understood why she would say that because i always loved this song

  • @empire9898 No, it didn't really have a "Supremes Sound". And regardless of what B.G. at the time thought (he could just replace Mary and Cindy with anyone), the dynamic wasn't very good, and I think people for the most part picked up on that. "Love Child" and "I'm Livin' in Shame", while the backgrounds were provided by the Andantes, DID have a very Supremes sound to them... Phil Spector did odd things like that, too.

  • @shmuli9 Also this song makes me think of "Aquarius/ Let the Sunshine In" sung by the 5th Dimension. In 1969 it kinda seemed like this was Motown's way of getting into the groove of the time.

  • @empire9898 Very much so! Have you ever heard Diana's "solo" of "Aquarius" on the Let the Sun Shine In album, and thenlater the group's 10 minute attempt at it 'live'? If one only heard that, one would think Cindy couldn't sing, but she actually has a very nice voice...

  • @Motownman100

Maybe just because astrology is a chick thing, but it is certainly worthy of being a number one. Must own, classic!

  • @Motownman100 I loved this song!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • What a brilliant intro.

  • brilliant!!!!!!

  • graham xxx this id the REAL deal x

  • This is such a good song!!!!

  • A really great song by the legendary trio. Suprisingly it only reached nr. 31 on American charts and Nr. 37 in Great Britain.

It should have been at least a top ten song. Diana's voice is superb on this song.

  • @njezan1

Agree 100%. I remember this song well. It should have been a much bigger hit.

  • @njezan1 Yeah, Diana's vocals on this are superb! The instrumental track is funky and really amazing. I think it would have done better on the charts if there were different lyrics/different title.
