@DLockX Why? Oedipus & Electra complex are pretty usual. Probably when you were a kid you had oedipus (I'm assuming you're a guy, if you're a gir, sorry and it's the other complex) but you never noticed, nor your parents, even they could have said "look he/she's so attached to mom/dad" and you grow out of it as you get older. Now, for this one, remember both Shinji, and moreso Rei, are very oblivious to actual regular world b/c of their particular family circumstances and isolations.

honestly i dont think Shinji and Rei should be together in the rebuild i think it should focus more on Asuka and Shinji since they were both left by their parents and to me they seem like the 2 sides of the same coin they were both alone and sad but shinji is gentle while asuka is the opposite

Not to burst your bubble, but...Rei is too cool for Shinji. It's not that I don't like Shinji, I do, but erm...Rei is cool beyond human, whereas Shinji is stubbornly human (and the self hate gets irritating).

Rei said herself that her true self may not be in human form (Japanese version), or something along those lines. But I'd love it if they were together, despite all that. And yes, we all know that they cared for each other.

This is without a doubt the best anime I have ever seen,and for the people who are saying that teenagers don't get it,that's generally true,but of everyone,you really have to be able to gather all the shreds of the characters broken hearts and minds to truly understand what they feel and what they are going through,if you manage to fully understand,which most people don't,this show will make you tear up if not cry at some parts due to the mass devastation to the characters.

Pt.3 why he strangles asuka at the EoE because he was rejected by her so much he had anger but when she rubs his face he finally felt love and realized he has to change and accept reality that there will be pain and hatred the way in life to live a good life

Pt.2 well if you would try to understand also is that the angels are humans but in the form of demonic and monstrous due to lilith who became a succubi but the other part is the pyschological part... each character imagined there own world apart from reality in our case shinji he kept trying to make up a reality he could reside in without having pain or rejection but it would always get destroyed by the other characters

@doom2sgt The story of Lilith in the bible doesn't register at all in EoE. Angels were born from Adam and humans were born from Lilith; you're backwards on this. In this sense, humans are the same as the angels.

In the end Shinji REJECTED the alternate world because he realized how fake it really was. It was a form of running away in which he hated.

@shadowpheonix666 I find it difficult to understand where Rei actually comes from. First Shinji remembered his mother died in that experiment related to EVA-01 (I suppose it was something like that). Then Ritsuko told Shinji about that EVA prototype dump. But she said it in a way I understood it as if Yui walked into the grave herself (the dump), thus creating a contradiction.

@DLockX Well, the plot does get a little confusing and screwy sometimes, but as I understand it the Eva graveyard is of the earliest prototypes that failed even before completion, junked even before EVA-00 was finished, nevermind EVA-01. They do say 00 is the prototype and 01 was the test type, afterall, with Asuka later bragging about 02 being the first real production model. I think the weirdness is the failure to even mention EVA-00 in Yui's day, personally.

Currently going through all of the evangelion series again. Almost as good as dbz, but definately did a better job on the romance scenes.

@Shadolance1 it´s kinda different to dbz...both are great, but in their own fields.

DBZ is kinda for all ages, and it´s quite straight forward with excellent plot and characters, but it doesn´t stray far from "good guys kick the crap out of bad guys".

NGE is a more mature anime with themes that your average 13 year old is unable to understand. There´s psychology(oedipus complex), religion, etc. And of course, every single character is fucked up.

I was absolutely shocked at how romantic it was, since "Neon Genesis Evangelion" tends to be fairly neutral regarding potential pairings, given it was never about romance. If you haven't already heard it, have a listen! And I agree with you, that's where it seems to be heading, but whether it will or not...well, we'll see.
