  • Fantastic song :)

  • a flawed genious-so sad so very very sad

  • love the record, HATE HIM for what he has done in recent times, however SHAG & 53rd & 3rd were two of his best at the time......

  • An underated song by an underated performer, there should be more like this

  • I believe the orginal version was by SIDNEY HARRISON.

  • Juan Bastos did the original based on a greek fishermans song

  • well done jonathan

  • The follow-up single "Vulture Stomp" was even better!!

  • @ibisbill2 where can i find this song

  • @Nige1065 I've heard it's on Youtube.

  • Ha ha. 1.13. he sings lets go to bed but bed has been hushed up. A sign of the 70s I suppose. I do remember all the kids in school loved this track.

  • this brings back some old memories lol

  • Me Too Shag the bird in the blue, Loop di love......

  • i would SHAG the bird in blue,Loop di Love,ha ha ha ha...........

  • Bring back the 70s what great music

  • Stayed in the charts for 13 weeks at the back end of 1972,reached #4 at its peak week of Nov 18 1972.

  • my mate was a tobbaconist, his wife was the best shag in the shop...............get it?

  • @blade0954 No,please explain.

  • Shag is also a sea bird and a carpet description, plus tobacco.

  • Hallo zusammen, es ist wirklich spannend wieviele sich an diesem Song versucht haben... Deutsch gibt es sie ja auch...

  • I have this on 7" vinyl. Brilliant.

  • Oh yes it was Perra; very much a slang word for sexual intercourse, which was why I loved the fact that the BBC were saying it and playing it ten times a day when it went top five!

  • I remember one radio DJ on Radio 1 saying it was Number One for 2 years in one country and also SHAG stood for *Someone's having a Gag*

(Meant I think Jonothan was having the gag with people singing totally differently using electronics or something on those lines.

  • Was "Shag" considered rude back then? I thought it was a type of dance or a hairstyle.

  • I was given this record - a treasured posession!!

  • I bought this record!!
