@morpheusatloppers In other words, Steven didn't want to get pushed off the chairlift (also very similar to a ferris wheel chair) so he said he had heard of the guy before so he wouldn't be a total stranger, because the guy only pushes off total strangers. That is my interpretation :)
I've been aware of him ever since he came out and I'm still amazed by him. one of the greats. I bought a decaffeinated coffee table, you can't tell the difference.
so i heard this steven wright joke about a fiend named bob and how he was playing tag on a cliff and instead of tag it was push. ANYWAY, I CANT FIND THE JOKE, IF YOU COULD TELL ME WHAT TO SEACH THAN THAT WOULD HELP.
@morpheusatloppers I think that since he stopped doing comedy for about 15-20 years then started up again, he's just not as known as newer comedians.
If he did an HBO special or something this year, he'd get tons of views. Since 2008, I've mostly only seen him on The Late Late Show and I think he does stand-up at clubs and stuff, so he's not really getting too much exposure.
My pleasure! So far, it appears that about a quarter of the viewers stuck with this through ALL FIVE PARTS. Not bad for YouTube viewers - most of whose attention-spans are limited to three minutes! (I can say that HERE, as none of them will have REACHED this part!!!)
I owned "I Have A Pony" back when it was released. I have had it memorized to this day. Was surprised that this performance (1-5) had a few jokes that I had never heard before. Also, I was waiting for, "Every once and a while I like to go over to the window, look out, look up and smile for a satellite picture." Guess that one wasn't in here. 1 of my faves.
Thanks for posting these!! I have them downloaded now :-)
wow the audience is really drunk lol

@Narwal88 "I said, 'I remember you'." In other words, STEVEN WAS the guy he'd pushed off the ferris wheel. BIG coincidence!

"What if there were no hypothetical situations?"

Thanks a lot for posting these. I've always loved Steven Wright and his "dry" wit. Here's a couple more of his one liners.
Last week I installed a skylight in my apartment....my neighbors upstairs were furious.
The other day I went to a general store....they wouldn't let me buy anything specific.
Last night I played a blank tape at full volume.....the mime across the street went nuts.

People often throw the term "genius" around too liberally, but in this man's case, it couldn't possibly be more apt

I agree about the hits. But another indicator of "success" is the number and tone of the comments - which have been many and POSITIVE.

I've noticed that he sometimes begins to laugh and he tries to hide immediately turning his back on the audience. Surreal, deadpan humor.

@Brunoleite86 - Yes - his style ONLY works if he stays "in character".
I used to HAVE a Slinky - I wish I'd thought of putting one on an escalator!

I've tried it; it doesn't work as well as you'd expect. You need to find one with narrow enough steps.
