Not even close - whether Albania get higher marks or not (diasporic voiting and all that) this is by far a superior song and an amazing performance. I'm not saying that because I'm from the UK either - it is the simple truth. Whatever happens this year, we already have a moral victory as this outshines pretty much everything in the competition (Malta is the biggest competition).

It's not ridiculous, the attitude of many countries towards the UK is poor and it's because of OUR actions. Stock market success is not a gauge by which you can assess perceptions of the UK from other countries around the world. I don't think we're a deluded backwater and I am very proud to be British, but at the same time, I understand why other countries dislike the way we constantly interfere in international affairs with an attitude that smacks as - "Listen to Britain, we know better!"
i am so glad there's a judging panel this year :) 50% the panel and 50% countries own votes as years before. this might help jade to win :) because usually people vote for neighbours, and being an island we dont usually get that many. but now :D

I think Jade has been very brave for taking on the responsibility of being the UK entry of Eurovision when it has become such an embarrassing thing to apply for over the past decade or so. She has the voice to be very well respected and I think it was a brilliant idea to get someone like her to represent our country and move it away from what is currently used to sending out there. I actually believe, despite the song being a bit boring, we will at least be higher in the scores than usual.

Anyway, if I had to stick my neck out and take a guess, I would guess that the UK will finished 11th or 12th. We have a strong entry this year that has been well received by countries all over Europe and has had lots of positive comments from the other contestants too. However, there are lots of really good songs in this year, so I don't think we will make it into the top 10, even if the bookies think that we are amongst the favourites to win.

My mistake, was looking at odds on countries it is 'expected' to be number 1 in. Odds for the contest are suprising though: A bookies poll of the Eurozone has come up with the following as the list of favourites:

I am suprised, because like you, I don't actually think we will win, I expect us to get into the low points, but to be newar the top half of the leaderboard we will need 10s and 12s
And as I said before, the number of votes cast is testament to the interest that has been raised through ALWs involvement in the show, regardless of whether there was a selection of song or not. And I might remind you that the UK song has already reached number 1 in some countries charts!!!!
You might say that the song isn't good enough, but if you look at the coverage of the UK entry from other countries in Europe, the only thing that interests them is the fact that ALW wrote the song and that he is gong to be gracing the Eurovision stage. I think you are massively underestimating just what a massive star ALW is across Europe, he is one of the worlds most successful living songwriters and his musicals are performed in almost every major European capital.
And that's where the problem lies. The song isn't a good one or should I say, not ideal for the Eurovision. Jade has a fantastic voice and deserved to be picked, but it's not the right song to win.

For a prime time weekend TV show, Your Country Needs You had a huge audience share, even beating ITV and even if the voting figures don'tt impress you, the fact is that compared with other TV shows the voting record was enormous.
Loopy Leanne - Just to point out that over 10 million votes were cast on the final of Your Country Needs You, which is the highest number of votes cast for a UK Eurovision selection show in many years, so your claim that most people in the UK would not have voted for the song is nonsense because the numbers speak for themselves. 10 million votes equates to roughly 17 or 18% of the entire UK population voting once each, that's MASSIVE.
It's not a good song. She sings it ok, but ALW should stick to musicals. I'm from the UK and I do not like this song. The majority of the UK would NOT have picked this song, only ALW fans voted for this. This is NOT a winning song. Greece all the way I'm afraid.
I'm just getting a little fed up of people commenting that this song belongs in a musical. Yes, Andrew Lloyd Webber has written the song, but that doesn't instantly mean it belongs in a West End show. If it was some random songwriter who knobody knows, they wouldn't even be saying it. I'm just getting a sense that because the UK has come up with a strong entry this year, that people are looking for any excuse to criticise it, when actually, there's not really much wrong with it.

i am so glad there's a judging panel this year :) 50% the panel and 50% countries own votes as years before. this might help jade to win :) because usually people vote for neighbours, and being an island we dont usually get that many. but now :D

I have actually noticed something. Jade is the only mixed race or black person in eurovision this year. she's so good! :D I actually think we'll do pretty well this year. we cant do much worse.

I don't think black/mixed race entrants are particularly well received in the Euro. The further east you go the more racist it seems to get!

I really think that Jade can do it but this is a dreary song but thankfully she has so much talent that she might pull it off but with ALW playing the piano on stage will give her a boost and hopefully a few votes in the UK's direction

We must come in at least the top 5 this year! If not it will be a tragedy as Jade is the best singer EVER on Eurovision. I don't think they should have given someone of her talent a cheesy ballad though as, when she sung Beyonce - Deja Vu, she showed she could sing and DANCE. Then we would have blown everyone out of the compition. Still I think and hope we have a good chance. :)

I think Jade has been very brave for taking on the responsibility of being the UK entry of Eurovision when it has become such an embarrassing thing to apply for over the past decade or so. She has the voice to be very well respected and I think it was a brilliant idea to get someone like her to represent our country and move it away from what is currently used to sending out there. I actually believe, despite the song being a bit boring, we will at least be higher in the scores than usual.

to those who say it's boring well compare it to UK's more recent entries. LAst year Scooch, the ridiculous flight attendants attemtping as many sexual euphemisms as possilbe. The year before Daz Sampson, the paedophilic school teacher surrounded by writhing school girls.

The Finals are already this coming Saturday (Moscow time, early, early morning in the Asia-Pacific)... And I'm confident that Jade will do it. Since 2001, Eastern European countries have been dominating. I just hope with more honest voting, this will definitely be Jade's time.
And for those who don't like this song at all, especially if you're from the UK (based on some comments that I've read):

She's very good, very good voice. Only problem is the song is a lil (ok, alot) repetitive.
Oh, AND the rest of Europe hates us. We won't do well, and we'll probably be at the bottom again. Which she shouldn't be, she's amazingly talented, much better than most that have entered.
Unfortunately, that's the way it is, people throughout europe vote politically in this, and not for the best ones.

Anyway, if I had to stick my neck out and take a guess, I would guess that the UK will finished 11th or 12th. We have a strong entry this year that has been well received by countries all over Europe and has had lots of positive comments from the other contestants too. However, there are lots of really good songs in this year, so I don't think we will make it into the top 10, even if the bookies think that we are amongst the favourites to win.

My mistake, was looking at odds on countries it is 'expected' to be number 1 in. Odds for the contest are suprising though: A bookies poll of the Eurozone has come up with the following as the list of favourites:
Norway (Favourite to win)
Greece
Turkey
Bosnia-Herzegovina
United Kingdom
Azerbaijan
I am suprised, because like you, I don't actually think we will win, I expect us to get into the low points, but to be newar the top half of the leaderboard we will need 10s and 12s

You might say that the song isn't good enough, but if you look at the coverage of the UK entry from other countries in Europe, the only thing that interests them is the fact that ALW wrote the song and that he is gong to be gracing the Eurovision stage. I think you are massively underestimating just what a massive star ALW is across Europe, he is one of the worlds most successful living songwriters and his musicals are performed in almost every major European capital.

Jovial, I deal in facts and have actually looked at the viewing and voting stats for the show. For a prime time weekend TV show, Your Country Needs You had a huge audience share, even beating ITV and even if the voting figures don'tt impress you, the fact is that compared with other TV shows the voting record was enormous.

Loopy Leanne - Just to point out that over 10 million votes were cast on the final of Your Country Needs You, which is the highest number of votes cast for a UK Eurovision selection show in many years, so your claim that most people in the UK would not have voted for the song is nonsense because the numbers speak for themselves. 10 million votes equates to roughly 17 or 18% of the entire UK population voting once each, that's MASSIVE.

I'm just getting a little fed up of people commenting that this song belongs in a musical. Yes, Andrew Lloyd Webber has written the song, but that doesn't instantly mean it belongs in a West End show. If it was some random songwriter who knobody knows, they wouldn't even be saying it. I'm just getting a sense that because the UK has come up with a strong entry this year, that people are looking for any excuse to criticise it, when actually, there's not really much wrong with it.
