i have personally driven this car, and the IS-F, both are nice but M3 feels tighter and smaller.

The IS-F has a wicked automatic tranny, good low-end, but the M3 picks up in mid-range alot more.

Not to mention that the IS-F has fake exhaust and is alot heavier.

I wish people would get over teh fake exhaust tips. It sounds fantastic. I was buying one but they couldn't get the spec I wanted in the time frame so I ended up getting a new M3 coupe.

I can tell you that off a track you WILL NOT know the difference between the 2 in their Handling/Performance. On paper the M3 is quicker but you'll never know it on road

The Lexus makes a better looking 4 door than the M3. The M3 coupe is better looking. Lexus seats are waaaay better. Lexus sounds waaaay better.

All in all they are both nice, but the M3 is less "borrowed" than the IS-F (LS motor, IS body etc.)

A BMW 325xi, their slowest model E-46 is more fun to drive than any other sedan I've been in. That includes a Rolls Royce Phantom.

The E46 m3 sounded good from inside the car, but from the outside it was horrible! Only the CSL sounded good from the outside, the standard car sounded like metal be grated, mixed with the sound of someone trying to clear their throat!

Just awful, the new one sounds great, not quiet as nice as the V10 in the E60, but great nonetheless.

BMW's are decent, most other euro's are junk though. Too high maintenance for most Americans and easy to fall apart as it is.

Look, a BMW M3 E46, gets 333.00 BHP from a 3.2 liter engine, but a Ford Mustang 350H, gets 325.00 BHP from a 4.6 liter engine, just trying to make a point here, not to start bickering...

I'll bet the M3 won't be much to brag about as far as speed, but my friends '03 C32 pulls on another friend's RS4. The RS4 unfortunately is too heavy, and I know without a doubt the new M3 would have no problem taking it. I'd like to see when AMG comes out with a detuned C63 (the new M3 won't stand a chance).

Hopefully they will keep the weight down, give it better brakes and less understeer. The E46 model had to have $10K worth of mods to make it really work right.

One has to remember that M3 isn't actually a cutting edge sports car, it is just a capable saloon, and as it is, it has been made with buying public in mind. Most of M3 buyers wont want/need upgrade parts. Brakes are good enough for everyday use, only hard road driving or track use is too much for them. (well, feel ain't that good, but it rarely is these days)

Understeer - well, maybe they just want to keep customers alive, it's safest to hone balance to understeery.

E46 brakes that warp during harder street driving, much less track days, are not up to the parts now installed on most premium performance cars. I don't want just "good enough" for that kind of money. A little understeer is fine for the average driver, but too much - as in a stock E46 M3 - and the car really dosen't deliver for a reasonably good driver. The undersized front to larger rear tire setup in all BMW M cars is mostly to blame. Here's hoping for an E92 CSL!
