You said you got yours without a single flaw. I guess you were lucky. I got mine with several cosmetic blemishes and it looks like the quality control on the Indonesian factory is almost non-existent or I better say the promise to examine and set-up each guiatr in CA is just that - the promise. Or both?
The neck is great and flawless but the guitar body is blemished and it isn't a second or B-stock but should've been sold like that. The blemishes are 'hidden' and that's very disappointing.
I was just at a guitar shop and they had a few of these Sterlings and a few of the "real" ones. After playing them both at the store, the Sterling Musicman guitars are pieces of junk compared to the real ones. Yeah, the real ones are more expensive but they are much better. If you are willing to spend $550.00 on a Sterling, do yourself a favor and get an Ibanez or some other comparable guitar and you won't even have to spend $550.00 to get a better guitar than these Sterlings.

A Great review my friend . You have explained every little important detail that is crucial to you decide to buy the guitar. Congratulations , I will buy one here in Rio de Janeiro- Brazil. Once more I thank you so much by your very helpfull review
i gotta admit you got a nice guitar there , check out my video rant on how i think they should make Sterling/Ernie Ball Music Man Axis & AX-40's left handed.
yeah i've been looking at guiars for a while and i've decided on this one, getting it 2morrow, everything i hear about it is great and one of my friends has one.
Yes and u also look alot like George Castanza (Jason Alexander) from Seinfeld!! Youre a mix of two film celebs.. now become a rockstar and you should be pretty noticable ;D
@skunizzi Hey thanks a lot. I think these Axis guitars are pretty popular, and since I am in Canada I hope I don't have to wait 2 months til it gets here. Would you suggest the Music Man over the Mexican strat? I mean I want one because it's gorgeous and it seems like an really awesome guitar. I hear you should replace the sustain block though cause it is kind of small. Thank you so much for your reply
@diamonddust22 which one did you get? i actually got this one and a used mex-strat(its a good one) stays in tune like crazy... i play the axis really with van halen stuff ...and the fender with just about everything else....i play the fender more but i like both
Hey, man...wonder how that thing purrs through a tight modern overdrive, something creamy. Anyhoo, I thought it was a very productive short review...I appreciate it.
I posted a new video playing this guitar though a Marshall and a 412 cabinet with some overdrive. The sound clip on that video is much better. You will get a better idea of what the guitar actually sounds like though a Marshall stack.
I just got the AX40 today.. I have a Frankenstrat that cost me 3K.. and for the cheap price comparison.. this AX40 plays reall well!! -- excellent, I recommend it for sure if your an EVH guitarist!!
Andrew Goldman from Nonpoint uses the Music Man Axis(the high end model of this) and he does alot of rhythm playing. I personally think its sound great but go ahead and find one of their live vids and listen for yourself
I have the older version the Olp MM1 my guitar and your guitar are almost the same I lke yours though because of the quality i got mine for $199 half of yours and im happy hold on to it because these guitars are becoming rare!!! thanks for sharing

I am torn between buying one of these or a Mexican Strat.
diamonddust22 2 years ago
Mexican strats are hit and miss. You can get a good one but you may have to try a few before you find it.

These guitars are made in Indonesia

No the bridge is not bad. Its actually quite good.

How do you find the playability of the guitar? Stays in tune? Quality of the metal etc...
ronjcharity 2 years ago
Thanks for the review! What did you think of the pickups? It is necessary to exchange them?
thiagoafrock 2 years ago
The pickups are not bad. I like the higher gain out put and they can clean up quite a bit if you lower the volume.

I don't like the sound of this standard Pups..
