such a brilliant man, and it's incredibly sad, Pink Floyd is a great band, but with Syd Barrett they might have been the greatest rock band of all-time
Jesus is the only hope of salvation from the guilt of sin. He is God come in the flesh. And he came to wash away our sins with his blood that he shed on the cross. Salvation is a free gift, but you must repent and ask Jesus to save you from your sins and come into your heart. God is good. It is written, "The just shall live by his faith."
Ja jajajaja, He's on Mandrax at this recordings, David Said it on the interview, oh man this recordings are fantastic relics of Syd. whhhoooo Love you Werever you are Syd from Tijuana Mexico, Rigo.
Yes, something I had to learn about him. He does literally every word, note, and even the seeming "mistakes" all on purpose. It's to evoke a certain feeling. When he used to write his songs they'd be actual literal paintings according to his roommates and his manager Peter Jenner. It's amazing how his mind worked. Absolute absolute genius.
He went for a very short period for counseling but that was it. They didn't feel that he needed any help but that he was just depressed. Typical misunderstandings of Asperger's Syndrome - particularly in those days. It's a social and emotional disorder. He wasn't insane or mentally ill in any way shape or form.
lol Thanks ;). I don't know if I'd say that he "ended up" there but yes, to your point, he did stay for a very short period at one for counseling lol.
I'm sure that there are other versions of this song. He sounds almost as if he's joking about when singing this version. I don't get why they're still keeping so much of the Barrett recordings that they have under lock ad key! It's depressing and upsetting.
@valaurwen Alot of people like it!! i think it's amazing but we are all different so it's your opinion!! i guess some people just really dig it though!!!
Oh I pretty much love anything Barrett. This one however, strikes me as a tad odd because (if you listen to other bits of recordingsof "If It's In You") he sings this way exactly (with the stretching and cracking voice, etc) and very intentionally (he does the exact same thing in every recording of it, even in out-takes). Barrett at times had a complicated sense of humor and I was just wondering if there is more to this that they still, for whatever Godforsaken reason, refuse to show us.
Never said that I didn't like it. There isn't anything of his that I don't like. My point is that I think that there is much more to this than we have been exposed to. He always meant so much with every note and word of every song and I can't help but wonder what exactly he meant with this beyond the obvious. It's so much MORE than it seems, just as everything of his was so tremendously much more than it ever seemed. He did not in any way have a simple mind or a simple genius.
@valaurwen actually, you'd be surprised... there ARE other takes of this song out there, but if you listen to them, he sings the beginning "Yes I'm thinking of this" the EXACT same way... it's part of what makes him great.
I know, that's what I was saying. He does every single version that we have heard this way EXACTLY. Thus, I wonder if there is more to this than we have seen or what exactly he meant by it. He meant something by everything and yet it was all so simple. That's part of what makes him so absolutely amazing. Beyond genius. I just wish that we had more at our disposal to help the world understand his sometimes puzzling genius. As he said "I'm nothing that you think I am anyway." Beautiful.
@ellerbeck41 Yes, this recording perfectly represents the feeling of the song, through the expression in the tone of his voice and his pronunciation of the words.
utterly fucking ripped his buttons.

Pure irony. Don´t over analyse it. It´s just a feeling and he conveys it perfectly.

0:35 He kinda repeats "Colonel"
0:52 He repeats "Did I wink"
I really like Syd, but this album is really morbid.
Or does he do it on purpose?

after listening to this song, I don't find it hard to believe that Syd Barrett ended up in a mental institution....and I say that with love

Well it still stands that he did, in fact, "end up in a mental institution."
