  • Never ask the age to a lady... I live in a nice town by the sea, near Venice but I think I must have some ancient african blood in me! Otherwise there's no explanation for the love I feel for that Continent, its spirit, the people and the music especially.

  • @blackmoon710 Historians say everybody was initially African and black, and then people migrated due to different reasons and some ended where YOU are, in Venise. So, if that's true, U r African and maybe U r somehow related to West Africa and this kind of music.

  • I am running out of words to explain how deep this song has just moved me. Africa has reached my italian heart...

he's going to ask you did you fast ?

he is coming to judge your soul,

he's going to ask you did you pray ?

    did you fast ?

  • @mayanpoet heey in east afrika we say "malaika" for angel (in the swahli language) it sounds like you have a similar word here too. it must be from arabic...or?

  • Great pictures to a wonderful song. What great talent! Bravo Ismael Lo and thank you Aliche to celebrate it! I've been to Senegal and it brings back sweet memories. Such beautiful and warm people...

  • IS IN THE SPANIARD MOVIE ALL ABOUT MY MOTHER

    Thank you so much!!!!!

  • his is a long time song..can remember children singing it during the muslim new yr..it is a local song though it is in WOLLOF the commonest language in Senegal..the song is breathtaking

  • Ismaila lo is certainly the best Artist that comes from Senegal ..Musician com Movie actor and also he does some great painting...to me he epitomizes the beauty of Senegalese culture

  • Fell in love the first time I've heard this song in Todo sobre mi madre...

  • magnifique chanson ,je me la suis fait traduire §Waouh merci Monsieur Lo

  • It is so unusual to hear vocal harmony in west african music, this song really caught my ear when I heard it on the radio today! I live in Mali and visited Senegal many times and I have not once heard harmony in any song played there! I wonder how it goes over with the African audience, is it foreign sounding to them? When we "toubabou" (whites)would harmonize in church we would get stares of incomprehension! They would say, why can't they all sing the same song????

  • Comment removed

  • @2degucitas lol. u must be joking i fink u need to listen to more west african music be fore u make such unfounded comments. for starters check oumou sangare. also check orchestra baobab!!

  • @trapperjaw Um, it's not an "unfounded comment", it has been commented on widely by musicologists. You have a right to an opinion, just don't talk down to me like I'm a school child! Be respectful.

  • @2degucitas thats funny...i m from east afrika and we are very familliar with harmonizing and singin in canon,

  • @sourcream20b I have noticed this as well. East and South Africans are more likely to harmonize. I don't know if it has to do with indigenous culture, or the difference between French and English ex-colonies. Maybe the English left more of an impact musically on their colonies? What do you think?

  • @2degucitas This is a senegalese song, and senegal was colonised by the French ...

  • @zwiniful Yeah, so my theory falls apart!

  • Comment removed

  • @2degucitas in my opinion the islamic states have more appealing harmony esp west africa maybe whole of africa has harmony lol im from zimbabwe, there is not much harmony in my country as there is in the west of africa but south africa has some good harmony too

  • @ashlinempofu are you kidding?! zim is where the harmony began! i'm from s.africa and i can tell you, my friend, that we look to you as the originators of the southern african musical tradition. now, if we're talking political harmony... that is another question. :)

  • @Sassafrasican @Sassafrasican man you are kidding ryt, the political harmony thing is true though coz Uncle Bob and his gang are just hard headed selfish people and i see no bright future without a strong revolution against the whole system but life goes on hey, but i dnt think zim's music has anything to offer maybe its the

"greener grass on the other side" thing

  • Nice song, nice melody.. and by the way there's a sardinian moviemaker who gave this title to a movie about racial integration, and it's just been rewarded in Venice.

  • This song reminds me of my séjour at Bordeaux in 2006.

  • This FABULOUS music that Pedro Almodovar chose for his movie "All About My Mother" is just composed and written by the SOUL...

Thank you so much Ismael for this treasure!

  • love it, goes straight to my heart

  • abo808-- i would be glad to tell what is this song about...I can vividly remember us singing this song in the 90s wen i was a young boy growing the SeneGambia region..senegambia means senegal and gambia...we used to sing this song during the Muslim New Yr..moving from one household to another...our moms would cook some great food--cherreh for example and we will eat to the brim...some of these days were always great for the kids...

  • @abo808 He speaks about tajabone, is like Halloween in Africa....

  • @abo808 actually it may be about Halloween but in Senegal not in all Africa....

  • @Gogoleila hehe definitely we don't celebrate halloween here.

  • @abo808 I feel the same way,everytime i listen to this song...
