The PUB had instructions to go to Wilson field (football practice field) which is outside of the campus.Instead of taking the instructed route to the field,they chose to pass through Hagood gate and proceed to Avenue of Remembrance (apparently, this is the M.O. of the PUB at other campuses where they stir up "enthusiasm"). This explains why there were no Citadel escorts.They didn't count on the Corps' response when they were disrespecting this revered avenue.Go Dogs!

In case y'all didn't know, there were more reasons why the Citadel Cadets were rightfully outraged.
The Santa that the Princeton band was mutilating in front of the entire stadium was actually stolen a few years ago from the Citadel 3rd battalion barracks during the holiday season.
Furthermore, two members of the band were proudly wearing the white Citadel garrison cap and disrespecting all it stands for by throwing it on the ground and stomping on it. There's a lot this video does not show.

We would never go to your campus and do the things that were done at our campus. Also discipline does have some benefits. For example, when the cadets were ordered away from PUB during the game. Each cadet left without complaint or statement. Granted they should not have been there, but there were lots of things that ought not to have happened on Saturday.

I hope that all parties involved have learned a lesson from this. I am sure that there will be some sort of heavy punishment for any cadets involved in the "assault" on campus. I also wonder if the school might seek some recompense for the actions of the PUB at the game. I wonder if the "entire" performance was approved by the athletic department. I do not see the athletic dept. of the Citadel approving sexually explicit displays, assaulting and maiming of santa, and some of the other antics
To continue, the actions of the cadets (physical assault) was out of line, but understandable. All cadets participate in field day and if their "demonstration" on campus was in any way similar to the half-time performance, I can understand the reception that was provided by the cadets. Having "access" to campus and being outright classless are two different things. Did the administration know of the planned activities? Did the band prepare properly by having a faculty or other escort?
In further explanation of your ignorance. Did The Band know that it was Education Day at The Citadel meaning that anyone under the age of 17 got in for free? And your band displayed imitations of sexually explicit acts on the 50 yardline? That is where the real travesty is. You shove that stuff down our throats as well as the rest of the world. First of all, I am a Graduate of the Citadel and I was most of all shocked by the response that the Cadets had toward the Princeton Band. That was before I saw some of the performance on the field. My children (ages 6, 5, and 2) were in the stands. Some of the displays on the field involved actions that do not even get seen on the TV in my house. Ie. the dry humping, stabbing and mutilating of Santa, etc... At the time, I was also unaware of the actions on campus earlier.
So Princeton, put your tiger tail between your legs and change your band website describing your band as "undefeated" because you just got served by 2000 of my highly esteemed comrades, the South Carolina Corps of Cadets.
How was the Band defeated this weekend? The cadets unsuccessfully tried to intimidate them with lots of yelling. The cadets were turned away by their superiors who then granted the Band the right to continue doing whatever it is they wanted to do. That does not sound like defeat to me.

However, to the members of Princeton, the antics you displayed were distasteful and hopefully not an accurate portrayal of the education received at arguably the best college in this nation. You have the right to say and portray what you want but you have a responsibility to be civil. One reason why the Islamic Fundamentalists dislike the US is the explicit performance demonstrated Saturday.
In addition, any member of the Armed Forces who believe that physically assaulting members peacefully assembling on public grounds is ok should leave the military because that is a right you are fighting to preserve. We are fighting and dying overseas to make sure our enemies do not bring such tyranny over here.
As a member of The Citadel, I, in no way condone the destruction of property, or denial certian rights. Those events mainly involved freshmen eager to become physically involved as a measure of acceptance. As a member of the Armed Forces, as well, I am proud to see that anyone can walk in any public location and say what they want. This is what seperates Americans from entities such as the Taliban. So maybe the Princeton band wasn't familiar with the Citadel's campus and their apparent sanctity of that lane, which the band, naturally, thought was just a lane, and doing what they always do, paraded through the grounds. You can't justify assaulting people and destroying their property simply because they're not aware of where they're walking. Did any cadet bother to say "please don't walk down here, it honors fallen veterans?"

And the Band has a tradition of playing on campuses before games, no matter the venue. And faced with the history of your campus, their march-around behavior was substantially toned down -- and approved by your administration -- out of the same respect you all claim they spat upon. Which is why a gut-check reaction was the wrong thing to do in this situation. That's where I, and my fellow Princetonians and Band members, are coming from, and I'm glad we finally got there.

Violence, though often misused, is a tool. In the wrong hands it can be very disrtuctive, in the right hands and under the right circumstances it can protect things which are worth protecting. In the assesment of every cadet and alumni, the integrity of the Avenue is one of those things. In all seriousness that is where we are coming from. If you wanted to respectfully tour campus that would be one thing, it is another thing to make a mockery of something others hold dear.

One of your own was quoted as saying the Band was "lucky they didn't get killed," and the from the sound of things, that's not much of an exaggeration. The PUB had instructions to go to Wilson field (football practice field) which is outside of the campus.Instead of taking the instructed route to the field,they chose to pass through Hagood gate and proceed to Avenue of Remembrance (apparently, this is the M.O. of the PUB at other campuses where they stir up "enthusiasm"). This explains why there were no Citadel escorts.They didn't count on the Corps' response when they were disrespecting this revered avenue.Go Dogs!

In case y'all didn't know, there were more reasons why the Citadel Cadets were rightfully outraged.
The Santa that the Princeton band was mutilating in front of the entire stadium was actually stolen a few years ago from the Citadel 3rd battalion barracks during the holiday season.
Furthermore, two members of the band were proudly wearing the white Citadel garrison cap and disrespecting all it stands for by throwing it on the ground and stomping on it. There's a lot this video does not show.

We would never go to your campus and do the things that were done at our campus. Also discipline does have some benefits. For example, when the cadets were ordered away from PUB during the game. Each cadet left without complaint or statement. Granted they should not have been there, but there were lots of things that ought not to have happened on Saturday.

I hope that all parties involved have learned a lesson from this. I am sure that there will be some sort of heavy punishment for any cadets involved in the "assault" on campus. I also wonder if the school might seek some recompense for the actions of the PUB at the game. I wonder if the "entire" performance was approved by the athletic department. I do not see the athletic dept. of the Citadel approving sexually explicit displays, assaulting and maiming of santa, and some of the other antics

To continue, the actions of the cadets (physical assault) was out of line, but understandable. All cadets participate in field day and if their "demonstration" on campus was in any way similar to the half-time performance, I can understand the reception that was provided by the cadets. Having "access" to campus and being outright classless are two different things. Did the administration know of the planned activities? Did the band prepare properly by having a faculty or other escort?

First of all, I am a Graduate of the Citadel and I was most of all shocked by the response that the Cadets had toward the Princeton Band. That was before I saw some of the performance on the field. My children (ages 6, 5, and 2) were in the stands. Some of the displays on the field involved actions that do not even get seen on the TV in my house. Ie. the dry humping, stabbing and mutilating of Santa, etc... At the time, I was also unaware of the actions on campus earlier.

i assure you that had there been an altercation NO cadets would have needed hospital treatment, and even fewer would have been in handcuffs. The only bars any cadets would have ended up behind are those on Lesane Gate and Summerall Gate

You were not granted the right to continue by our superiors. You always had the right and my classmates ignorantly attempted to deny that through means of physical intimidation. I'm in the military to make sure you have that right amongst others. Mind you I do not support those actions at all. Where the defeat comes into play is when you attempted to verbally slam our school in our stadium and you were booed so loudly that no one could hear you because we knew of your intentions

The bottom line is, Princeton attempted to attack moral values and our school in a light a funny manner to try to make it seem ok and sophisticated by tacking your name to it. In response, the members of the South Carolina Corps of Cadets stood up to your attempts of mental intimidation and we were so loud that you're attempts were ineffective, our football team kicked your butt in the second half

However, to the members of Princeton, the antics you displayed were distasteful and hopefully not an accurate portrayal of the education received at arguably the best college in this nation. You have the right to say and portray what you want but you have a responsibility to be civil. In addition, any member of the Armed Forces who believe that physically assaulting members peacefully assembling on public grounds is ok should leave the military because that is a right you are fighting to preserve. As a member of The Citadel, I, in no way condone the destruction of property, or denial certian rights. Those events mainly involved freshmen eager to become physically involved as a measure of acceptance. As a member of the Armed Forces, as well, I am proud to see that anyone can walk in any public location and say what they want. This is what seperates Americans from entities such as the Taliban. This is what I fight to preserve.

So maybe the Princeton band wasn't familiar with the Citadel's campus and their apparent sanctity of that lane, which the band, naturally, thought was just a lane, and doing what they always do, paraded through the grounds. You can't justify assaulting people and destroying their property simply because they're not aware of where they're walking. Did any cadet bother to say "please don't walk down here, it honors fallen veterans?"

And the Band has a tradition of playing on campuses before games, no matter the venue. And faced with the history of your campus, their march-around behavior was substantially toned down -- and approved by your administration -- out of the same respect you all claim they spat upon. Which is why a gut-check reaction was the wrong thing to do in this situation. That's where I, and my fellow Princetonians and Band members, are coming from, and I'm glad we finally got there.

Violence, though often misused, is a tool. In the wrong hands it can be very disrtuctive, in the right hands and under the right circumstances it can protect things which are worth protecting. In the assesment of every cadet and alumni, the integrity of the Avenue is one of those things. In all seriousness that is where we are coming from. If you wanted to respectfully tour campus that would be one thing, it is another thing to make a mockery of something others hold dear.

One of your own was quoted as saying the Band was "lucky they didn't get killed," and the from the sound of things, that's not much of an exaggeration.
