@Hollandia777 One of the most beautiful banknotes ever. The modern Swiss notes are special as well but this one was more of an abstract work of art though. The last 50 and 100 Guilder notes were also from the same designer (Oxenaar) btw. Outright "weird" however is the series Oxenaar designed before those last f 50 and f 100 notes: very special indeed, but people abroad sometimes did not recognise the notes of that series as real money.
@DrBPhD Feel myself almost forced 2 say dutch design is nothing but a crème de la crème...xD This feeling is (almost seriously!) paired with a nostalgy 4 the Dutch Guilder - I'd rather wish it comes back! xD (I personally find "100" note version of it is the most aesthetic 1; just look at the piece of poem there!). Concernin' some "foreign" opinions 'bout the guilder notes - I once heard a german callin' them "candy wrappers"! xDDD
@Hollandia777 Well, I am not too nostalgic per se about the Dfl. Most important is that we have a stable currency. Despite the problems of the last few weeks the Euro is still doing reasonably well in this respect (remember it was at 0.80 USD back in 2000). I hope we can still say this in a couple weeks btw. After all, the "greek and italian risk" was one of the reasons I did not like the Dfl being replaced by the Euro back in 1999.
Do believe ur nostalgy will grow! xDD Why just Grece & Italy? What 'bout the rest of the "Garlic Belt" members? xDDD Proud bullfighters, 4 instance (from the both countries)? xDD
@Hollandia777 As to the Euro banknotes: they are a missed opportunity. A lack of aesthetics, vague and neutral themes, some simply ugly and (I guess) much easier to copy than the old dutch banknotes.
my favourite banknote designs,so different and complex when studied closely.
bedankt ond dank u wel

2 speak 'bout the euronotes - they had 2 B "neutral" & "understandable" 4 the rest of the world...xDD

@Hollandia777 Well, I guess they are a bit too neutral. "Uninspired" would be my qualification for their designs.

Most beautiful bank note ever, and Gustav Mahler too. Thank you for posting this.
