@LukeSaundersUsername since they are bringing the most anticipated 4K discs next year, i'm sure we'll get another boxset with all discs in just one disc
@Blucollection I really hope your right i've been putting of buying the films for so long I don't want to have to swap a disk half way through a film it's ridiculous
@GregMonster17 just remember dvd took a while for us to see good titles, same with blu-ray, years and years waiting for good titles. I'm sure LOTR will look fantastic in 4k but thats gonna take just like BD and dvd few years. I'm guessing they will release a super cool box with all 4 LOTR plus 2 hobbits in 4k resolution.
@Bouncest2 we had 720p years ago, now we have 1080p, next step up will be 4k resolution which is around 4,000 pixels 3840 x 2160 which doubles the 1080p HD resolution. Should you wait, cannot answer that, i heard 2012 is the end of the world, so i dunno what happens end of the year. I would say enjoy life to the fullest my friend.
@supercatflub both LOL.. nuh sorry, this one is the extended edition, Star Wars has 6 movies. You gotta ask yourself which "you" like the most. I like both so i had to get both. Some people dont like this extended edition because it will take you 10 hrs to watch all three movies. And star wars looks so awesome in blu-ray!!!
@supercatflub LIke other's will say which do you like better. If you like both get both. I feel both are very well done for blu-ray. In fact For me I feel blu-ray collections should have Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, and The Matrix. Those sets of movie not matter if you like them or not are so filled with behind the sense stuff and great scenes that to not own them would be a shame.
Thanks for your demonstration video. I'm surprised they couldn't fit the entire movie on one BluRay disc (I'm not a techie, so maybe they couldn't). Sad the rest of the supplemental discs were DVD (which I already have). Good job and thanks!

Regarding the languages and subtitles, just buy it online. In Canada our version has English, French. I'm sure other countries will offer others. The internet can be a wonderful thing.
Sorry you got one with an error 2but that's gotta be rare.
Firstly: The DVD mix-up is really bad, but good that amazon gave you a new one.
Secondly: This is one of the reasons why I don't download movies. I know physical collections take up space and is much more costly, but I love actually having the movie in my hand and seeing it standing there on my shelf amongst my other DVD's & Blu-Rays.
I bought the Star Wars Saga set on BluRay and I am definately also getting the LOTR Box. Btw. how is the movie-quality on BluRay?
@mixfight11 Thank you very much. That's what I needed to know to buy it. I'm Argentine and although I understand English many times, there are things I always miss. And I enjoy extras very much. So thanks.
To make it simple Fellow ship of the ring extended is 3 hours 45 mins, Two Towers 3 hours 59mins or something like that, and I believe Return of the king is 4 hours 25mins. I bought this last week and it is amazing.

Great review BTW :) oh and thats a bummer that you have part 2 and part 2 :(
I will definitly eventually be getting a Blu Ray player altough not soon Lol. A Blu Ray player right now would be a little bit too expensive for me after buying the LOTR books and then after buying the LOTR Extended Edition. But thanks for your insight. (For future reference when I DO actually get a Blu Ray player) ... What player do you use? And what player would you recommend or which do you think is the best?
@connswee to be honest with you, i have 2 blu-ray players, and they both are playstation 3, they are the best players in the market. best loading time, best up-converting.. but you can always go with Panasonic like the Panasonic DMP-BDT210 or LG and samsung
@Blucollection Oh I see, I'll take that into consideration. I already have an Xbox 360 Slim but a PS3 with the apparent best Blu Ray player would be reeaally nice.
@Blucollection I'm going to have to disagree with you. Although i own a PS3, I think Oppo make the best blu ray players, especially for those who are very technical and A/V oriented. But that is only my opinion. By the way, did your replacement come with the correct part 1?
@connswee this editon is the exact SAME one that was released in 2002, only difference is that now its in hi def. So yeah, you can get this in dvd. Search on amazon.com Lord of the Rings Extended Edition dvd. I think pricewise you can get all three movies for $70
@Blucollection Yeah it would be easier to buy it off Amazon. I just checked and they're selling it for about $80. How much do you think the shipping & handling would cost me?
@connswee also, hope you dont mind me asking, why not just get in blu, since a player has got so cheap lately.. ?! and you can still play all your dvds in the blu-ray player. Not only that, it will upconvert all content to the best resolution possible
@Blucollection I don't mind you asking. How much would a Blu Ray player cost? I'd just like to note that I'm only 14 years old but a huge LOTR fanatic. If the player is cheap enough I'll consider getting one. I've always want a Blu Ray player since I know that it would be much better than regular DVD player but I've never been sure on how much they cost. I've always assumed they were very pricey?
@connswee yeah i think perhaps you should talk to your parents first, get their approval and all, but there are many players for under $100 like Panasonic DMP-BD75 and LG BD630. The majority now are around $150
@Blucollection Well I'll defintly eventually buy a Blu Ray player but not soon although Lol. That'll be a little too expensive for me after I've boughten all the LOTR books and then after I purchase the LOTR Extended Edition. But thanks for you insight. (For the future when I DO buy a Blu Ray player) ... What player do you have and which player would you recommend or which would you say is the best?

Hey everybody! I have released my new album 'Progenitor' which has electronic music inspired by great series such as The Lord Of The Rings. You can check it out and download it for free on my youtube channel if you're interested!
Out of curiosity, why do you feel the UK cases are better than the US ones?
I think the black cases look far more elegant, and are thinner than the blue ones, but I can't immediately see an actual advantage to one over the other. (Except maybe saving on shelf space.)
I'm in Australia, and am undecided whether to buy the US or UK release (the UK is cheaper for me, but I think the US looks nicer). Any thoughts please on the cases and the packaging in general, anyone?
@ShadowinaCave i dont really know about UK's audio and subs option to compare, but regarding the cases, i always liked the thicker ones specialy being blue. I have the trilogy in the shelves right now and it does not look nice with black clases.. but thats just me.. i dont think the color black goes with these movies, besides you can barely read the titles.
Okay Blu, cheers mate. Many thanks for the reply. :-)
(Besides, I can can get it about 15 Aussie bucks cheaper from Amazon UK than from either Amazon or B&N in the US, and for Aussies it's free shipping. Decision made, I guess.
@Blucollection so what's the difference between this rerelease of the extended edition amd the platinum edition of the extended trilogy back in 2003?? I own the platinum of the extenders so let me know the differences
@Blucollection atleast i never looked to see if they have it, or maybe it just blends in, instead of sticking out but with this amazing packaging it should stick out
Does anyone else throw out the cardboard surrounding DVD/Blu-Ray collections so that they can have the individual cases on their shelf? I just find that a big cardboard box on my movie shelf looks ugly.
a very nice set. i bought the theatrical editions, recently sold them and i will be picking this set up soon. feel bad for you that wrong disc was inside. im sure you can take it back to your local retail store where you purchased it and they;ll give you a good copy.
I don't get it.. Are the movies split up into two Blu Ray discs each; meaning you have to change the disc in the middle of the movie? Or is it one disc with theatrical version and another one with the extended version?
Right i'm from the UK we have more subtitle options, apart from that it seems the same... APART from the fact that myself and three friends have all opened the boxes and found NO digital copy... not very pleased >:(
The extra documentary disc does incude some new behind the scenes stuff too :)
I got this box set on the day that it got released, I got ready to watch the movies a few days later, so I play the first part of the fellowship of the ring, but when I inserted the second disc after 3 minutes waiting, nothing display on my screen, so I eject the disc and still nothing, so I contact amazon and they overnight me the new one, I was gonna watch it tonight but I got the same issue, I dont think is the buray player cuz i been watching other movies, you have this issue??
@0rc001 NOPE, there is just one! Its called Lord of the Rings Extended Edition blu-ray Trilogy. Us version comes with black cases, UK version comes with blue cases.. German version also comes with blue cases. They are ALL exactly the same in terms of Bonus material, only difference is audio and subtitles.. And its not limited.. its available worldwide.. hope i was able to help.. any questions, feel free to ask..
@schmitty6633 there are several different boxes worldwide, with different cases, inserts, etc. Ours is black, others are blue.. This video is just to show how the quality of the box and cases, inside and outside in case someone wants to purchase it, after all it costs $70..
I thought the black cases looked cool until he opened it. I could immediately tell how bad the quality was. I am disappoint. I like the Europe version better :(
@SmashBrosMaster277 ONLY if you have a big screen, 46 inches and over.. then yeah.. you're gonna see a lot more sharpness, more difinition and clarity in the characters.. you can really see their expressions and with great black levels it provides a much darker and realistic Middle Earth..
@Blucollection I have a 26" LCD (HD Ready) screen, and the difference between this Bluray version and the DVD version is HUGE. Of course it's meant to be for bigger screens but if you enjoy having a very sharp, better black levels on any screen, definitely buy this one over the DVD extended one.
@sasukeisraiden the Hobbit is not part of the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, its gonna be called The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey threrfore they will never be packaged together with LOTR
You are wrong about the subtitles. I think it depends in which country you buy it or something. Cause here in Norway we have Danish, Swedish, Finnish, English and Norwegian. And only English sound
@danielsen45 i never said audio and subs are for ALL titles released worlwide, i was just talking about US edition.. all countries have their own edition with different specs..
i have it in french sir =s

@connswee i just checked Best buy online and they did not have it, so i doubt it.. much easier to find at amazon.com or ebay
Blucollection 6 months ago
@Blucollection Yeah it would be easier to buy it off Amazon. I just checked and they're selling it for about $80. How much do you think the shipping & handling would cost me?
connswee 6 months ago
@connswee sincerely i have no idea, since i am an Amazon prime customer, i never pay for shipping neither taxes
Blucollection 6 months ago
@connswee also, hope you dont mind me asking, why not just get in blu, since a player has got so cheap lately.. ?! and you can still play all your dvds in the blu-ray player. Not only that, it will upconvert all content to the best resolution possible
Blucollection 6 months ago
@Blucollection I don't mind you asking. How much would a Blu Ray player cost? I'd just like to note that I'm only 14 years old but a huge LOTR fanatic. If the player is cheap enough I'll consider getting one. I've always want a Blu Ray player since I know that it would be much better than regular DVD player but I've never been sure on how much they cost. I've always assumed they were very pricey?
connswee 6 months ago
@connswee yeah i think perhaps you should talk to your parents first, get their approval and all, but there are many players for under $100 like Panasonic DMP-BD75 and LG BD630. The majority now are around $150
Blucollection 6 months ago

ORTmusic 6 months ago
Out of curiosity, why do you feel the UK cases are better than the US ones?
I think the black cases look far more elegant, and are thinner than the blue ones, but I can't immediately see an actual advantage to one over the other. (Except maybe saving on shelf space.)
I'm in Australia, and am undecided whether to buy the US or UK release (the UK is cheaper for me, but I think the US looks nicer). Any thoughts please on the cases and the packaging in general, anyone?
ShadowinaCave 6 months ago
@ShadowinaCave i dont really know about UK's audio and subs option to compare, but regarding the cases, i always liked the thicker ones specialy being blue. I have the trilogy in the shelves right now and it does not look nice with black clases.. but thats just me.. i dont think the color black goes with these movies, besides you can barely read the titles.

@Blucollection

PrinceofSaiyajins456 6 months ago
@PrinceofSaiyajins456 exactly the same regarding content and running time, difference is that one is dvd, this one is high def blu-ray

goofamatic 6 months ago

Just pointing out that the languages are regional. Here in Canada, we have English and French audio, and I think we also have Spanish subtitles

Does anyone else throw out the cardboard surrounding DVD/Blu-Ray collections so that they can have the individual cases on their shelf? I just find that a big cardboard box on my movie shelf looks ugly.
CyanoKhaar 7 months ago
@CyanoKhaar i put them as individuals cases and keep the box in a separate location..
Blucollection 7 months ago

I don't get it.. Are the movies split up into two Blu Ray discs each; meaning you have to change the disc in the middle of the movie? Or is it one disc with theatrical version and another one with the extended version?
AarlandSun 7 months ago
@AarlandSun one movie only, extended edition split in 2 discs, so yeah, you would have to change the disc to resume the movie..
Blucollection 7 months ago
@Blucollection O.. Well, that makes me reconcider.. Thanks for the quick response!
AarlandSun 7 months ago
pretty sure the extended blu rays are longer than the original extended versions (or so Wikipedia tells me)
ImperviousMason 7 months ago
Right i'm from the UK we have more subtitle options, apart from that it seems the same... APART from the fact that myself and three friends have all opened the boxes and found NO digital copy... not very pleased >:(

@Blucollection there are 2 kinds: a Limited extended edition and an extended edition right? Does the limited contain the black cases??
Sorry for the bad English :D
0rc001 8 months ago
@0rc001 NOPE, there is just one! Its called Lord of the Rings Extended Edition blu-ray Trilogy. Us version comes with black cases, UK version comes with blue cases.. German version also comes with blue cases. They are ALL exactly the same in terms of Bonus material, only difference is audio and subtitles.. And its not limited.. its available worldwide.. hope i was able to help.. any questions, feel free to ask..
Blucollection 7 months ago
I just got this shipped yesterday and it is AMAZING! but where are the easter eggs? for the life of me, i just can't find them
BeecakeBagginsONOhp 8 months ago
Why do we need a 7 minute unboxing video? Its a box and cases! You're just gunna throw it on a shelf anyway.
schmitty6633 8 months ago
@schmitty6633 there are several different boxes worldwide, with different cases, inserts, etc. Ours is black, others are blue.. This video is just to show how the quality of the box and cases, inside and outside in case someone wants to purchase it, after all it costs $70..
Blucollection 8 months ago 8
I thought the black cases looked cool until he opened it. I could immediately tell how bad the quality was. I am disappoint. I like the Europe version better :(

markit39 8 months ago
If I already own it on DVD, is it really worth the upgrade?
SmashBrosMaster277 8 months ago
@SmashBrosMaster277 ONLY if you have a big screen, 46 inches and over.. then yeah.. you're gonna see a lot more sharpness, more difinition and clarity in the characters.. you can really see their expressions and with great black levels it provides a much darker and realistic Middle Earth..
Blucollection 8 months ago
@Blucollection
Even on a screen half that size the detail compared to DVD is night and day.
jblackrupert 8 months ago
@Blucollection Hi! Which languages are the subtitles available on the special features? Thank You!
academiacircus 8 months ago
@Blucollection I have a 26" LCD (HD Ready) screen, and the difference between this Bluray version and the DVD version is HUGE. Of course it's meant to be for bigger screens but if you enjoy having a very sharp, better black levels on any screen, definitely buy this one over the DVD extended one.

sasukeisraiden 8 months ago
@sasukeisraiden the Hobbit is not part of the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, its gonna be called The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey threrfore they will never be packaged together with LOTR
Blucollection 8 months ago
Nice but no part one I would have taken that back to the store so fast lol.
JWUniverse 8 months ago
You are wrong about the subtitles. I think it depends in which country you buy it or something. Cause here in Norway we have Danish, Swedish, Finnish, English and Norwegian. And only English sound
danielsen45 8 months ago
@danielsen45 i never said audio and subs are for ALL titles released worlwide, i was just talking about US edition.. all countries have their own edition with different specs..
