  • You hear that, Atari? Go fuck yourself

  • My Mom and Dad got this game system for me when it first came out. It was great. I had Out Run, Thunderblade, Shinobi, Missle Strike, Enduro Race it think it was called. Wow:)

  • look at that tv set haha

  • the hang on kid is ted from nickelodeon's 'hey dude'

  • 0:07 Oh ho ho ho, I see what you did there, kid!

  • @PS3 Yeah it's normal only the classics play old stuff.

  • Is it normal that i still play the Master System?

  • @PS3GamerN3rd I don't know how normal it is but you are to be commended sir for your loyalty! I used to play my N64 still until a few years ago...then I lost the faith...mainly because all my mates who used to play N64 with me all got taken over by...you guessed it...PS3!! So yeah the following died...shame tho...but for early games from about 1988-1995 era I always prefered the look of sega games to nintendo and most people I knew had a sega console...but I was too poor so I was deprived ):

  • @PS3GamerN3rd I don't blame you for wanting to get away from all those annoying 10 year olds on xbox live.

  • Legend of Zeldais as old as I am. Jeez!

  • But the system will not.

  • The kid at 0:12 sounds like Link from the Zelda CD-i games. ;D

  • the sega master system was bullshit just like the nes..now the xbox360 and the ps3!!!!..those are what you call systems..hands down the 2 greatest systems of all time..fuck the nes and fuck sega

  • @35stevestarks

You know how you can tell someone who's under 14? They say stuff about the NES like you just did.

Look up the "Video game crash of '83"

The market wouldn't accept any other systems. Nintendo brought the video game market back to life. Without them, you wouldn't have your precious XBox360 or PS3.

You don't get to trash the NES and Master System just because your first system was a PS2 or an XBox.

  • @Draknfyre welcome to the internet, please do not feed the trolls

  • @explorertotodile

Hard to tell the kids from the trolls, because kids with no respect for anything other than what they have and what is the current most powerful console is very common.

  • @35stevestarks how about fuck you

  • @baddestrorules how about your father bitch

  • @35stevestarks shut up

  • Ernie Anderson was the Voiceover for all the ABC promo was in the commercial for the Master System.

  • I forgot how eighties-out the fonts and packaging were for Master System products. They all look like the covers of old Time and Newsweek magazines.

  • I still have mine and it still works!

  • POS system. This system was so bad, the Genesis was released prior to the SNES (the second Sega system after the NES, making me laugh at Genesis' "Genesis does what nintendon't" slogan, even though Genesis was pretty good)

  • @ff2paladin This system had arcade accurate translations, like 2 player Double Dragon (NES version was sad), Shinobi, Rastan, R-Type, Time Soldiers, Altered Beast, Golden Axe, Vigilante, After Burner, Space Harrier, Hang-On... NES had more games but most were utter crap colored in brown and green. And SMS had Phantasy Star- the best game on any platform to date.

  • Everyone owns the sega master system, even Mordicai and Rigby

  • @TheMike16112 i don't =(

  • @baddestrorules I feel sorry for you man...

  • Is that Brent Musburger doing the voice over?

  • I believe Nintendo had 90 percent of the gaming market in the 80's talk about dominating

  • Sega does what Ninten-don't

  • F*** u sega nintendo had better games and controls

  • "SEGA The Challenge Will Always Be There"

    But The System will not

  • HA! The kid is saying "hang-on, hang on!" while playing...Hang-on! Woo, that was a good one

  • I had the SMS. The controllers wore out quickly, and you couldn't buy replacements in the store. Zillion was the best SMS game.

  • AS THE NAME OF THE GAME PLAYING THE MOTORCYCLE BOY? SOMEONE PLEASE ANSWER ME!! THANKS

  • @edwinmusic It was called 'Hang-On', a port of a SEGA arcade game. It was actually built into early Maser Systems along with Safari Hunt, so you didn't need a cartridge to play either game.

  • @MrDynamoJoe tHANKS bRO! ;)

  • am i the only one here with HIVs?

  • Who's trynna sell me one? I want one

  • Hmm, two controllers and a light gun, but no battery operated robot. NES 4 the win! lol

  • This was the downfall of humanity.

  • And Sonic made Sega ultimately famous in the gaming industry. While Alex Kidd was unable to make them popular.

  • @grim10fire The difference? BLAST PROCESSING!

  • @MrDynamoJoe Don't forget Genesis does what Nintendon't.

  • HELLO!!I am the only one who thinks that they copied the NES??

  • @TheLuigiadrian How so?

  • @fcukugimmeausername How we start? The controller, the zapper...And almost the cardtridge(but it looks more like the Atari one)

  • Ernie Anderson FTW!

  • Soon Sonic would be born!

  • Not sure if I would have wen't with that checkered shit, reminds me of mathbooks. Which is not very appealing.

  • @Enraged10 Actually it was nicer to look at than most of the nintendo games boxes covered in horrible artwork. The Checkerboard may have been very basic but it created a nice and tidy uniformity that kept the boxes from looking like cheap advertisements for the game inside.

  • @Nabelnoir Dude, a cover is made as an advertisement for the game inside. It should catch your eye. By the way, do I sense some hostility towards Nintendo? ;)

  • @Enraged10 Dude! Not all covers are equal. To be fair, I did like the Nintendo original game boxes where they showed just a large pixelized image of a game character on the box. However they got away from that as did many other game creators and the artwork often was gaudy and heinous. I guess I am old skool because I love the way Atari did it, where they tried to create a characteristic other than game images on their cartridge boxes. That and the Sega boxes were reusable plastic.

  • @Nabelnoir Well I do like a recurring theme on cover art that is more than a frame around the artwork. Guess you're right about that :)

  • Can that kid get any closer to his TV to play Safari Hunt? He's well cheating!

  • @Phillyjoe2 lmao

  • "The challenge will always be there" But the system will not. . .

  • no thats not awesome ,rift is awesome .thats graphics

  • Such a shame that it's market share in America was nowhere near as viable as it was in PAL regions. Nintendo must've done one hell of a job re-stabilizing the North American market during it's headstart.

  • Did the narrator say 'light phaser'? LMAO!

  • @chillgentleman That's what it's called. The Sega Light Phaser.

  • these systems beat all todays shit i love my master system now i play it all the time along with nes snes

  • @SeGaSaTuRn1994, this and the Atari 7800 were the two most underrated systems.

  • @EastCoastDude99 the master system outsold the NES its an awsome system

  • @SeGaSaTuRn1994, I agree. Just hooked my old Master System up in my garage along side my Genesis and Atari 2600 last year. We were drinking and playing some Enduro Racer just last weekend. Still one of my favorite games on the SMS

  • @EastCoastDude99 coool awsome game iv just got it again today too brilliant game had lots of fun with this 1 over the years still 1 of my favoratest ya just cant beat the good old days games now are just not the same they dont give enjoment like the old ones do i like all the classics me nes snes master system gamegear atari all very cool

  • Ah, the large serif font on the white background looked so non-threatening.

  • The Australian catch phrase for the Sega was "SERIOUS FUN". Ozisoft in Australia was so successful with this marketing campaign it actually was one of the few markets in the world where Sega outsold Nintendo in the 8-Bit era!

  • I remember preferring this to my NES. I remember this system fully. Kinda cool to have your cames on a small little card.

  • @SIMPLEman612 Well, the Master System did quite well in European and South American markets. Which is probably what prompted Sega to keep trying and make the Mega Drive/Genesis, which was equally or more popular in places like Brazil as I understand. Good thing the Master System is pretty much region free, if you want a lot of the games you have to import them from Europe in my experience lol. I agree that the NES was the superior console though, because it had much better 3rd party support.

  • lol sit two inches from the screen is how i play lightgun games too

  • Great classic system right there the two of my favorite games are The Ninja and Phantasy Star!

  • @SIMPLEman612 Except that the master system still works after 20+ years, while you're lucky if you get two of a 360 before it fries itself.

  • Astro Warrior was my game of choice.

  • @SIMPLEman612 Everyone has their own opinions. These games were harder and required more skill than most of the games out today, but it doesn't mean I don't enjoy new games. I just prefer older ones, since I grew up with them

  • I still play my Master System. A brilliant console that will always be in my top 5 :D

  • master of my dick

  • @carrierform and you are a DICKHEAD with an 1 centimeter cock

  • @killkenny5000 bravo

  • Actually, Many Sega Master System Games were FAR HARDER then 90% of the games we see today

  • This is still my favorite Video game system with the Atari 7800 in a close second.

  • @EastCoastDude99 I gotta get me a 7800. Isn't it odd in 2011 we're now desiring these older consoles?

  • @hootyhaha, the older consoles to me are more fun and "arcade" like. The stuff out now is so advanced you may as well go outside and play the real thing. And yeah the 7800 is awesome. Just found me one at the local farmers market a few months back.

  • haha at 0:07 is Ted from Hey Dude

  • The kid saying Awesome sounds like CDi link.

He might as well say "Octorock"

  • do you know that sega is also spelt ages backwards.

  • @FRANKIESHANOWSKIY2K0, Race Car spelled backwards is spelled Race Car too, whats your point?

  • @EastCoastDude99

Just for trivia: how do you spell the PS3's "Sixaxis" backwards? xD

  • Press 3 to make the kid say "Accurate"

  • OMG, Sega sure beats Nintendo. But it only caputred 30% of it's lifetime.

  • The challenge will always be there.... UNTIL!!..... The Sega Genesis!

  • @mastersofmotion The challenge wil always be there... until Sega stopped making consoles.

  • @mastersofmotion i remember when i genuinely thought the challenge would always be there, if you bought a NES or master system, you were gonna be playing that even to this date.......

little did i know that we'd be playing life like shooting games based on wars that hadnt even begun back then

  • 0:11 lolololol

  • I owned a MS and a NES. Never understood what this commercial meant might by more accurate control.

  • The Sega have a Start up Graphic ! Good !

  • Hahaha, ironic tag line!

  • the sega light phasers design was taken directly from the gun design from the anime akai koudan zillion...the games on the sms were imo more fun than those on the nes

  • We definitively need A NEW SEGA CONSOLE ! :D

  • ahhh, sega master system. the only reason nintendo could be bad was telling third party companies to not make games for sega

  • The Grid should have stayed on the table on the commercial.

  • Is that how all 80s guys behaved?

  • Well, it certainly sold me when I was a kid!

  • @JMShearer really how because im just curious (and no im not doing sarcasm)

  • @galaxyknight55 Well, my brother and I wanted one badly enough that we managed to talk my parents into letting us get one in spite of my mom being dead set against video games.

  • SEEEGAAAA

  • My first real console was Atary 2600.

  • @hayato1ful ITS ATARI 2600!!!!

  • @mrshanegt lol grammar whore.

  • @randomguy10999 YOUR A GRAMMAR WHORE

  • @mrshanegt is that honestly the best response you can come up with? You sound like a 7 year old

  • Comment removed

  • @mrshanegt ... *Facepalm*

  • @Thematt7890 OH STICK A DICK UP YOUR ASS TOO FUCKER

  • @mrshanegt That all you can come up with? Give me a break . Half the comments you make are just homophobic insults thrown at anyone who questions your point. Grow up and just enjoy the video. Oh, and turn off that Caps lock while you're at it.

  • @Thematt7890 Fuck you then

  • @mrshanegt See, you're all talk and no action. What exactly are you trying to gain in these 10-year old like retorts? Look at yourself! You're a friggin' disaster! You won't even let people state their opinions in your sight. Stop acting like a fascist and start to actually let people speak their mind.

  • @Thematt7890 Well you got one thing kinda right. Im 11!

  • @mrshanegt Can't say that I'm too surprised.

  • @Thematt7890 Well stfu then.

  • @mrshanegt There we go with the cursing again...

  • @Thematt7890 aZAGHGHCVBCVBVCBVBV N BNBN BB VCFCRXSDF HDFTRCT

  • My first real console.

  • I used to yell "Hang on" while playing Hang On. I never did own Hang On or a SMS though. I just sat in front of the TV leaning side to side yelling "Hang on!"

  • I remember when my father brought me one of those from the thrift store lol, i had the outrun game lol

  • i have a group on this

  • I can't believe they added all that stuff in the box! I remember after that they would leave out tv connections and you had to buy them separately!! That used to ruin any x-mas where i got a system. Other kids of course were happy if they got a meal and they were hearing stories about me yelling"You fuckin spoiled little American bitch!!!". Lol.

  • The Challenge is trying to find one.

  • @march12314 Found one at the local game store $50 though.

  • @march12314 u can get them on ebay pretty easily. i have a master system, its original from the late 80's. i love it. it's the first system my parent ever got me and the games were awesome back in the days, i still plug it in and play every now and then.

  • That boy later quoted "Octarok" on CDi.

  • I cannot speak for everybody, but as a kid growing up with both NES and SMS it was pretty cool to play eithier system. You have to remember two points: 1) Both systems were a major step up from Atari. 2.) Stand up arcade games were very popular, so with the release of both NES and SMS, you could play some of those games without quarters at home.

  • if i plug in my sega and play it today.. i guarantee "the challenge" will not be there

  • @TWOhits6 Seriously?

Some of those old games were extremely difficult and still are.

  • NES colors were terrible . I always preferred SMS

  • Why do you need to put the decade in the title? we know when its from

  • @Mortskcab just to annoy you

  • @fiddlebender88 there's no point to it though

  • @Mortskcab the kids of this generation need to know, they must know what we had back then

  • who would have thought that almost 13 years after this came out the console rights for sega was sold to microsoft

  • looks like a remake of the atari

  • ah safari hunt the first game I ever played

  • I remember this system. Too bad it didn't do well.

  • @SkyfireTheFox Depends which territory you were in, if you were in American, your absolutely right, however, over in England, the Master System did a lot better than Nintendo. I've still got both systems but the games for the UK NES were slowly released and expensive. Case point: Star Wars for the UK NES was £49.99 the later Master System release was £29.99.

  • I always yelled "Haaang onnnnnnnnnn" at the TV while playing "Hang On"

  • lol. memories. I wanted this but my mom couldn't afford it.

  • Good system got creamed by the NEs though. Super Mario Brothers pretty much helped with that. it made the NES a must have system.

  • Comment removed

  • @poaeypark Learn to use proper grammar and maybe people will give a shit.

  • sega master system pretty much fail back in 1986 nintendo with the nes that was awsome i love nintendo nes i never try a sega master system

  • @PEIN1518

the Nes wasn't awesome. It was technically substandart. Only some of the games were awesome.

  • so its like an nes but a lot worse

  • @DCD22498 Thecnically(wrong splled) the master system is better

  • @JoostRevo idk they are both awesome but the nes is better

  • The Master system was WAY better than the NES (graphics wise) but didnt have the great games

  • Master System FTW!

  • Did anyone ever get as worked up as the kids in these commercials? I don't recall almost wetting myself over hitting a target with that cheap gun thing.

  • Great system, most of the games have aged surprisingly well.

  • nes rocks!!!

  • Note: he didnt say, the graphics will always be there.

  • The reason why Master System fail was due to Nintendo's illegal practices of having contracts with 3rd parties stating that they can only make games for their console only if they want to release games on their NES.

This pretty much killed Master System and the 7800 from the get go. Hurt the Genesis too for the first little bit till Atari sued and it was found illegal.

  • Wow, that guy is sitting pretty much against the TV and still he's excited he hit a target with the Phaser!

  • @AssassinJordi --- wouldn't you be?

  • @AssassinJordi That guy was also cheering while the game was still running.

  • Omg!! David Lascher!!! Soo hot! Lol!

  • SEGA was the BOMB! MUCH better than Nintendo

  • Ernie Anderson was Paul Thomas Anderson's dad.

  • That was Ernie Anderson (a.k.a the voice of ABC) narrating the commercial.

  • &q
