  • is there some kind of gene in manchester that goes into women and make them give birth to genius like Ian Curtis and Steven Patrick Morrissey???

  • @simolui Neve been there but with ppl like Joy Division, New Order, Doves and others I think it's something in the water they drink.

  • Ive been waiting for a guide to come and take me by the hand,

Could these sensations make me feel the pleasures of a normal man?

  • I love this song. They were so ahead of thier time. But in that way they were trailblazers. Joy Division forever!

  • best song ever?

  • @crazyfeh12 YES..

  • @crazyfeh12 probably... *-*

  • Thank you, Ian, for some of the very best lyrics in the English language ever. Thank you for your performances where you gave everything to us.

  • this band became new order, a friend of mine from cali introduced me to new order, the disc power corruption and lies. im from the midwest, they all loved it , it is very catchy and melodic.

  • -_-

  • I can't help but wonder if the meds he was on contributed (via their side effects) to his death. So sad. I seem to be identifying with his stuff now that I'm in my 50's. Oddly enough, I didn't even know who they were till I saw the movie this year. I guess I'm clueless ;-)

  • To think that I first hear this thirty years ago. So much that I listened to then seems like trite exercises in adolescent style, while this just gets better—more resonant with the travails of life, no dross at all.

Ian Curtis knew the bitter truth of life and made uplifting music from it.

  • IAN GRACIAS POR TU MUSICAA

  • Its SO SAD that there is ABSOLUTELY no music like this now. NONE.

  • @ChrisRocks997 i found a band that is somewhat remeniscent of these guys called White Lies

  • I I have written so many things about how much I love this band. Maybe I'm writing too much as I tend to go on about my love for great music (I think my posts have gotten out of hand). Nothing out there can compare to Joy Division or any other old ass punk band. Those were the days.

  • Simply the best.

  • It saddens me to realize what couldve been, This track still sends a chill through my spine..in a very positive way...true artistry!

  • when I was a teenager I was always listened joy division, I am from porto the 2 biggest city of portugal is in the north of Portugal like manchester in england, and was my favorite band , today I can say is the biggest band ever and if we listened other bands we can see the mark they left for others bands, joy diivision forever

  • One of the greatest openings to ANY album out there. Thank you for sharing.

  • If I could have, I would have gone back and saved Ian. He has wonderful talent, and a great voice and message. God bless Ian!!!!

  • SO MUCH NERVE.. It makes me tremble...

  • The guitar playing of Bernard Sumner in Joy Division, and all of its simplicity and echoing effect is one of my favorites, and to me, comes before Ian Curtis's singing primarily.

  • If I could go back in time, I would save Ian. The man had a beautiful voice, the band rocked and he deserved so much better.

  • @TodAG69 unfortunly...you cannot save what was meant to expire. no dignity in his choice. only divinity in his voice.

  • @allyncitrus Beautifully said

  • I use to idolize Ian. I tried to wear my clothes like him. I even tried to find out what kind of cigarettes he smoked. Great band. Also this song got me through some tough times.

  • fucking disorder

  • @xDeadMisfitsx im in 9th! haha

  • Top tune and always loved this bassline .......

  • Disorder is a know pleasure.

  • I shall just repeat 'brilliant, brilliant, brilliant, brilliant' the same way Ian sings 'feeling, feeling, feeling, feeling' ! ! !

  • honestly this song never fails to give me chills

  • ian life is alittle sadder without you!!!!! you were too good 4 this fucked up world!!!!love u always, tiff

  • Fucking amazing song

  • wow.

now I can understand why ''I love Joy Division'' is written on my desk in Irish class.

  • @jaykiernan13 Haha I love it.

  • what really pisses me off is how everyone praises fucking ian and not the rest of the band.NO OFFENCE but it was the music ASWELL as the front man that made joy division.there SOUND was so original and that was`nt down to fucking ian.

  • @smithdvr Stop having a man-period and just listen to the music..

  • best band. ever

  • the ORIGINAL lyrics are not "I've been waiting for a guide", but "I've been waiting for a GUY"

  • @CDRdot so? this song is fantastic! 9th time i repeated it

  • i love you ian curtis...thy world be a better place with u in it...love u~~~~tif

  • @kronter111 Well, he obviously didn’t think it was a very good place.

  • The guitar on this track is so fucking good. Two tracks, one slightly detuned. works so well

  • Its pretty haunting isn't it?

After his suicide hearing the lyrics and realizing....."Wow you know this dude really felt like what he said."

He didn't think himself of all the nice things people like you or I say about him...he felt suicide was his only option left.

Its like listening to Kurt "swear man I don't have a gun!"

But I guess both left enough of a legacy as it were so.....its still really sad.

  • Brilliant!! I love this sooooo darn much!!!!!!!

  • I miss Ian :(

  • Thanks for posting this classic. One of the best bass lines ever .

  • The lyrics in your description are wrong.

  • This song is electrifying. I remember discovering Joy Division and the Velvet Underground at the same time. Cannot believe my head didn't blow up.

  • fantastic lyrics as always with Joy Division added to their typic sound , it gives a master piece , one more ...thanks for this video !!!

  • Thank you for uploading this.

  • Great song. Just never get tired of hearing any songs and sounds of Joy Division.

  • why would this guy leave us so damn young

  • @ASUNDAR83 Fuck off.

  • in my top ten for the past 20 years

  • NEW DAWN FADES IT'S THE BEST SONG........

  • amazing it dosent get better than this

  • damndude how can somone come up with strong lyrics and with a great band to give it the right sound??? Joy Division is ONE OF A KIND& always will be.

  • wunderful ~always<3R! thnx 4 posting

  • I'd like this played at my funeral.

  • Comment removed

  • i used to drink myself into this wierd, great place listening to unknown pleasures.. music can really talk to your soul

  • I was just a kid from Yugoslavia when I heard them for 1st time, didn't understand them much then, but now... It is a precious band with influence hard to imagine... Absolutely great and always fresh and inspiring.

  • @MrSerathor I am so pleased that you heard this where you grew up. I grew up in Manchester at the time this band was getting big and I am amazed they touched the lives of so many people. When I was young I could never believe that this music would affect people worldwide. Peace and love.

  • this song is just amazing

  • Just played this song again, and it blew me away, brought back so many different memories/emotions of joy division era.Its not until you start to listen to the words and then all just reveals itself.

Ian must have been going through hell and when i listen to 24 hours its all about retrospect, the life had already been lived, time to move on destiny unfolded right before my eyes, i know what this fella is talking about, yes it is about something else but you have to find for yourself one size no

  • does anyone know what the song is in control (the film) just before ian has a fit in the van? can't remember how it goes though just know that liked it :) sorry i'm a joy division noob :(

  • @NoahAndABadger candidate????:S

  • @krlozp umm don't think so :/

  • nice

  • Digital was also pretty intense song!! GREAT songs man!! DAMN...AWEWSOME!! Just leave you breathless!!

  • make Joy Division #1 in the UK for 18-05-10, it will have been 30 years since Ian passed, push Love will tear us Apart to the top, there is a facebook group

  • this song is sooooo effing amazing! the whole album is amazing, but this song is like, the song that got me in love with joy division, lol

    R.I.P. Ian Curtis

  • i agree 100%

  • I just wanted to say I basically can't listen to the rest of unknown pleasures because this song (the first on the disc) shatters everything else.

  • @Hias74

    Indeed!!! :D

  • @Hias74 I had exactly the same problem for about a year until I listened to the rest of the album and realised that there isn't one mediocre song. The whole record is pure brilliance.

  • @L2daO2daZ The other songs are good, I agree, but the mood is so different that I find it makes for an uneasy listen, which is probably the goal! I prefer Closer as an album.

  • @Hias74 shadowplay

  • @Hias74 Seriously? I love this song but Insight is on the Unknown Pleasures album as well and I think that Insight is the best song Joy Division's ever done. You should listen to it.

I'm not one of these JD fans who's a complete, crazy Ian-ophile, I really appreciate the whole parts of the band as in the way the guitars are being played and the way the drummer drums in all of their songs. But because someone killed themselves, that one person gets all the credit *shrugs shoulders*

  • @jrmetmoi Insight is awesome. I'm trying to say that there's nothing on Unknown Pleasures with a similar feel to Disorder and so the album overall is kind of a letdown for me, even though there's definitely stuff on it that I like. Thanks though, I had forgotten about Insight;)

  • @jrmetmoi I agree the music is so amazing. Early death makes you a martyr and raises you to the level of a god of sorts. Not to diminish Ian's talents. I never was a New Order fan though. Just a matter of personal taste.

  • @Hias74

I wouldn't say that. New Dawn Fades and She's Lost Control are also great.

  • Bravo. Poor bloke, such an unfortunate set of circumstances, ah well, he would have done himself in eventually, even if they'd have caught him that time.

  • Not mentioned in the same breath as Hendrix, Johnny Cash and other greats when he should be.

  • I'm still shivering...

  • ian...you are and will always be a legend

  • Truly an amazing song. I am able to play it at any of my parties or whenever i am in a very dark state of mind

  • Wow.

Just as intense as when I heard it in 10th grade.

    A+

  • oh yay. I'm in 10th grade and I heard this just two months ago

  • @vickersdavis thats weird, i am in 10th grade and just discovered Joy Division =o haha

  • Chevere!!!!!
