  • My compliments Sgt. I'm a private pilot and familiar with map reading and air navigation but have downloaded a copy of FM 21-26 to learn more about land navigation. Your videos have helped me digest the FM a lot easier.

  • I've been reviewing this series, taking notes, and actually get this

a lot much better than the skill level book.

    Great job on the teaching!

  • @treborwal

Tanks man, glad it helps. Also got your message but will respond here. I AGREE 100%....dont get caught up in the "what if" game it usually only confuses people anyway. Just stick to the task at hand and use your skills to accomplish it! Good luck buddy!

  • Good video series I am going 18X soon and this was a blessing I also joined a Orienteering Club near by, My only question is what happens next once you plot your 8 digit grid how do I translate that into aizmuth on my compass?

  • Great series, thanks for making it. I learned a lot of new things for navigation and I learned a lot more about the stuff I already knew.

  • Thanks for the series. I will watch many more times to make it sink in.

  • once you are given your grid coordinates how do you get your azimuth?

  • @jo3y6921

Did I miss that? Looks like we have another vid to make........stay tuned. It is actually very easy but not so much to explain on here

  • Hey thank you very much for making this video. I just learned more about land nav from your video then in my 3 years in the Army. Hopefully, I can put this to good use in my future endeavors.

  • @jo3y6921

Thanks man, glad I could help

  • PERFECT. listen man, you dont understand how important this series was to me. I'm shipping to Basic in 1 month and this instructional video was better than my Future Soldiers teachers could do. I fully understand how to do all of this now. I'll go in with a huge edge thx.

    Respectfully,

US ARMY 18x Candidate Hopeful Maduri

  • @tmaduri

18X ! Very good man. Wish you the best with that and thank you for the kind words......glad I was able to help!

  • @tmaduri You can do it bro. Remember your ethos and you'll make it through selection. "I will never quit!"

  • @KruNae Roger that.

  • Thank you Sargefaria! Great videos! I am heading to LDAC this Thursday. This was an awesome refresher course...watched all of your videos! All VERY helpful! thanks again!

  • Thank you Sargefaria! Great videos! I am heading to LDAC this Thursday. This was an awesome refresher course...watched all of your videos! All VERY helpful! thanks again!

  • thanks for your time teaching this video!! you made land nav very easy to understand very well done.. tks

  • Just another chap who wanted to say thanks for an educational and entertaining series of vids. I found what I came for almost immediately but then watched the whole series start to finish over the rest of the day. Best of luck with whatever you're doing; stay safe.

  • Well done dude; thanks. Its 5 am here, your videos kept me up this late (early really) but it was worth learning every bit of it. I'm a better and more prepared man today than I was yesterday thanks to you efford. Keep it up. THANKS AGAIN.

  • Good stuff. Nice enough of you to put it up man.

  • Thanx Sarge for taking the time to make this video series. I just got my first lensatic compass and have always wanted to learn to navigate with it in conjunction with a topo map. This series was very easy to understand except the declination explanations which would be difficult for anyone to explain. I did find this saying that may help to explain the addition or subtraction of degrees from the GN to the MN and vice versa: "Magnetic to map, it's a fact. Left Add, and Right Subtract". THX

  • well done!very useul..a crash course on land nav...

  • Very good series, thanks Sarge. Its 4:48am, I stayed up way too late but your series was very interesting and I learned alot. Take care.

  • Thank you!! Absolutely fantastic.

  • Thanks a lot, well done

Spend the better part of this morning getting familar with your teaching on map reading and enjoyed it a lot , y

You explained very well some gray area's i had on the subject .

    good work thanks again

    Greetings from Belgium

  • Wonderful series! I learned a lot! Thank you for taking the time to do this!

  • Awesome series. I was reading the protractor and saying the grid coords to myself and then the annotation popped up. YAYYYY! Now I just have to see if I can do this on my own as easily. One question...your map is 1:25000, which I guess is one of the standard military scales like you mentioned? Many civilian maps are 1:24000 so does a lot of this go out the window with the different scale? I guess you need to be certain your protractor and map are for the same scale of course.

  • @adaman04

Thanks for the kind words man. Your protractor will usually have at least the 3 main scales already on it brother. Even the cheap ones you can buy at staples and places like that. Just match up the scale with the map and you will be golden!

  • @adaman04

yes you need to make sure you're using the right scale on the protractor for sure. There is usually 3 different ones on there.

  • Just wanted to send out a huge thanks for this informative series. I truely appreciate the expertise, and professional instruction; and have shared this with my son as a learning tool.

You're a top notch instructor, and you're time and efforts are greatly appreciated.

  • This was dang helpful to me. Spent last night and today trying to soak it up. I think I have a pretty solid handle on it now. Thanks for taking the time to share this, Sarge. It hasn't gone unappreciated.

  • Thanks sarge!!! I have been searching for a complete informative land nav how-to vidio and this is by far the best one out there. I am looking forward to the future vidios. Awesome job keep em coming!!!

  • @bradleymcguffee

Thanks man. More to come for sure!

  • Great job on this series on land navigation. You did a good job of explaining clearly

  • @dezertcrawler

  • Nice job on this tutorial Sarge, thank you, keep up the good work....Rich

  • @tlingetrich

    Thank you!

  • Sarge, this without reservation, is the finest video on map reading, and navigation I have ever seen anywhere. You explained in a very easy to understand, hands on practical manner. I am already suggesting them to recruits, that will be taking land nav soon. Thanks Bro for taking the time to make these! -Robert

  • @polemicvs

    Thanks a lot brother!

  • nice video series. helped me confirm and also clear up my understanding on navigation. you were incredible navigating thru this series of videos. thanks bro I learned alot.

  • @stymiesam Thank you

  • hey sarge, i'm a big fan of your videos, especially this set you did on land nav. probably the best videos on the subject i've ever seen. i just want to say THANK YOU! for all you do for us as a community. may i make a suggestion for an addon to this video? i'd love to see a video detailing the does and donts while on patrol. for example, talking about why you dont want to walk across a ridge so you dont expose your silhouette, go 2/3rds of the way up instead, etc etc if you know what i mean :)

  • @BootlegBilly

Thanks for the support and kind words brother! I can't do any sort of video that you are talking about tho because that is military TTP's. Can get in trouble for that and also give away things to the enemy. Sorry man

  • @sargefaria i think most FM's and TM's are unclassified and open to the general public. most you can buy through barnes & noble or amazon.com to include the very same soldier's handbook they issue in basic. i dont know if you could get in trouble being a soldier and making a video about it, because i know you're limited in what you can say when you're under UCMJ law. it's been about 3 years since i was in the army. 82nd airborne here :) anyways, maybe a civilianized version of the subject?

  • Great and well explaind as usual sarge...look forward to putting all this knowledge to the test soon...and cant wait to see you at the gathering

  • Great series bro!! I learned alot. Thanks for taking the time to do this.

  • Loved the series. I agree with 100% that it's best to stick with one way of useing your protractor. Question for ya, you know that BM, is it one of those tiny circle ones, and have you ever been able to find it. I know people go looking in the undergrowth for them lol. I've seen a couple but that was by chance and I was not looking. I seen was in Newfoundland on the east coast, it was a small brass disk set in rock and in open view. 5* bro

  • @spannernuts Thanks for the compliments and all brother. I have actually seen a couple of these BM's before. The ones I seen were a small rectangular stone though with the plate on them.

Thanks for all your comments throughout the series and thanks for taking the time to watch....glad you enjoyed them!

  • @sargefaria It's been my pleasure bro
