I love coming to these videos and listening to all the 12 year olds comment on guitar playing. They have been told by the amp builders that only tube amps sound great.. Fact: In 1995 Hartley Peavey took his TransTube amp to the NAMM show and blind A/B tested it against tube amps. Nobody including the pro guitarists at the NAMM show could pick out the solid state amp. It's fact, and it wasn't yesterday it was 1995. You are all just sheep buying the overpriced tube amps they want you to buy.
@otm3904 Amen bro! I totally agree, people just assume tube amps are better because there told that from day one. I own this same exact amp, have been my only one for 5 years straight, I'm deciding on a new amp to change up my tone since this is not the best SS amp it wont be that hard to find a better one but still as a first half stack this has been a wonderful amp and especially for the price.
@otm3904 I'm gonna have to disagree with you on this for sure. Now, don't get me wrong, there are some really nice SS amps out there, but I've found they are few and far between. My Marshall Lead 12 kills as a practice amp, and sounds very tube like, but for the most part, SS amps tend to lack articulation, warmth (especially on the cleans), touch sensitivity, and response to the guitar volume. Just my two cents.
@mrmusicrocks1 The HFX is the newer version of this amp, it has a few new features and the front panel has had a bit of a facelift. Marshall also claim that the sound has been improved, I have tried the new MG series and I personally think they sound much better...but I'd try them out for yourself!
@mrmusicrocks1 The HFX is the newer version, but from what I have seen, it is not as well made as the HDFX. I own the HDFX and one of the things I love about it is the contour knob that can boost or scoop the mids. The HFX doesnt have a contour control. Also, the HFX head is smaller and now has all these cheap plastic buttons. I think it has a built in tuner though. All in all, they are pretty similar, but I think the HDFX has better build quality.
@14ax2 The Marshall MG Stompware pedals only work with the new MG4 series, which would be the newer MG100HFX head, this model only works with the old style (non-programmable) footswitches.
Ok, I've just bought this off eBay. My first stack, I've just started gigging, I pay £250 for this. I needed something quickly and cheap. I have a BOSS ME-70 Multi Effects Unit.
@mrnailz360 I also have the Boss ME-70, and I'm looking for a half stack amp for gigs! I always heard the Marshall MG series amps sucked pretty much, and I found a pretty cheap decent looking Kustom KG100HFX. Do you know anything about it? Think it's any good?...
Aw c'mon, he's not so bad. Why people have always to criticize? Nobody here is Joe Satriani or Jimmy Page so shut the fuck up and judge yourself before judging anybody else. Come on, it's a fucking video!
This guys not that bad. Its just he's using a bad mic so the sound quality is quite poor. Why is it that unless your a perfect guitarist people assume your shit?

Tone was terrible here and may be the way he recorded it too.. but.. I've actually played on one of these and it takes some tweaking to get it to sound nice and thick but it can be done. Get a nice booster, eq, and a compressor and it all works out. As with pretty much any amp.

Can anyone tell me the differances between a strait cab and a slant cab. I know that sound dispersion is one thing, and also that strait cabs have more bottom end but I'm going to buy one cab, and I can't really decide.
@Hench666Hunter666Jay Yeah I tried one out. Your right. The only thing a line 6 can say is that it has a Celestion. It's kind of a kids toy. The Spiders are good. But not for a half stack. I have been looking at a B-52 LS100 though. And I like that a lot. I got a $600 budget for this.
@randyrhoads3 I sold my Line 6 Flextone II for a B-52 LS-100 with the matching cab. It's a great head but just so you know it has overdrive channels not distortion so you may want a hi gain pedal to go with it. I'm also using a Boss ME-50. The Boss MEs are suppose to complement the head and so far I agree.
@mmim4 uh, im not much of a metal man. i like classic rock, so i use this vintage yamaha and i get a zeppelin sound out of it. but a good half stack for metal, id probably just get a line 6 spider valve mkii head. sell the marshall head. keep the cab.
I have a 100fx MG marshall pre amp. and for some reason i always get so much un wanted feed back everytime i want to turn it up a bit loud. could anybody help me on what i might be doing wrong?
Dude, i need your help, i got this head yester with a cab for £150, preowned (awesome deal me thinks), but the delay/chorus/flange doesn't work, in the DGFX part of it only the reverb and amster volume knobs actually do something!!!
Am i missing something here or would it may be a faulty wire :\?
@JohnMMorleyGuitar look... return it if possible, b/c to get it fixed, u may as well get a new amp. therees a reason it was so cheap, cmon man, its MARSHALL not crate...
@FEARthisGrunt Tube is better for any type of music.. only if you can afford one though, Solid states can still get close to the sounds you're after, but not as good as tube.
is this good for metal? im planning to Buy an Ibanez Mtm2 this summer. need a good amp which can make a good metal sound. like you hear in slipknot and such bands.. and ofcourse not to expensive.. any tips if not this?
whats the difference between a tube amp and a normal amp??? please answer me i want a good answer. i know tube amps are better but why??? and tell me also the price difference
@rivpl A tube amp ussualy tends to have a warmer sound... their mostly used for blues and stuff like that. its kinda like slashes soling sound. amps that arent tube amps have this crunchier, thinner sound that pierces your ears when your shredding... just check out some of dimebags stuff from cowboys from hell and youll know what i mean...
@rivpl a tube amp gives you a more clasic sound such as heared in songs by led zeplin and cream. they are also louder but more expensive. so if youre into that you should purchase one. solide state amps are god for begeners they have lots of effects and distortion for a small price, but you woulnt get that clasic ich tone a tube amp has.
i'm sorry but it's fuckin hilarious that kids buy this amp and think they're getting a real marshall i mean it says marshall but a real marshall has tubes
I was thinkin about getting a Marshall mg4 series Mg30fx for just playin at home and in the garage or a line 6 spyder 30watter both two hundred but once I saw this it makes me want to save for one please help!!!!!! I play a load of thrash metal like metallica megadeth and some slayer
@jerrykane01 if ur looking for a really kick ass amp check out the peavey Vypyr it's pretty sick i my friend matt has one i use a peavey 6505 halfstack
i have just got the mg100hdfx and i cant find a foot switch that will work with it. Any idea what one i need?

would a solid state or a tube be better for a Breaking Benjamin,Seether,Three Days Grace drop tuned alternative style?
FEARthisGrunt 1 year ago
@FEARthisGrunt Tube is better for any type of music.. only if you can afford one though, Solid states can still get close to the sounds you're after, but not as good as tube.

@FEARthisGrunt solid state

the only reason people pay money for this is because it says marshall on it.

whats the difference between a tube amp and a normal amp??? please answer me i want a good answer. i know tube amps are better but why??? and tell me also the price difference
thanks
rivpl 1 year ago
@rivpl A tube amp ussualy tends to have a warmer sound... their mostly used for blues and stuff like that. its kinda like slashes soling sound. amps that arent tube amps have this crunchier, thinner sound that pierces your ears when your shredding... just check out some of dimebags stuff from cowboys from hell and youll know what i mean...
DEM4LITION 1 year ago
@rivpl a tube amp gives you a more clasic sound such as heared in songs by led zeplin and cream. they are also louder but more expensive. so if youre into that you should purchase one. solide state amps are god for begeners they have lots of effects and distortion for a small price, but you woulnt get that clasic ich tone a tube amp has.

jerrykane01 has a serious case of the double tap. I want one of these amps. They are really low priced for what you get as far as I can tell.
