  • where did you get that shirt?? its fucking awesome i LOOVVEE grant

  • is it heavy?

  • great work on articulation with this, very important with sax players

  • I was just looking for the Coltrane´s solo in this tune and i was captivate by your playing. Cannoball´s solo is great but Coltrane´s one is better for me. Congratulations!!!!

  • Monsteroso man.

  • My favorite Adderley solo of all time.

can't even come close to playing.

    you make it look easy..

  • You make your Jazzica do what it's supposed to do. Swing, man! Despite no jazz chops, I did a lot of homework before settling on a Jazzica in 2003 and I haven't had a cross word with her yet.

  • Great stuff, and the cat in the case is the perfect ending!

  • how long did it take you to learn that song?

  • Awesome dude!

  • Great playing.

  • Great work! I've always thought that Cannonball's measured approach to rhythm made for nice melodies that could be played on guitar. You're work is inspiring me to transcribe more of his stuff.

  • Awesome playing!

When I took a lesson from Geoff Keezer, he advised me to copy sax, trumpet and guitar players to increase my creativity.

    keep the good music playing!

  • gj man. i love playing sax solos on guitar. you ever do sonny rollins tunes?

  • Thanks very much, havn't attempted any Rollins yet, am trying to nail couple more cannonball solos and a bit of Dexter at the moment.. got me thinkin though now, rollins on gtr would be pretty cool!

  • My friend who is a guitarist likes to play the etudes and exercises that I use for my alto sax practice. This video proves that guitar, bass and piano players who play jazz, can greatly benefit from studying what horn players study.

  • i must say that your pic is holding you back swith to hand strumming your that great that you could play almost anything

  • One more thing, for any other aspiring jazz guitarists watching this, I highly recommend trying to learn sax solos on guitar. I used to transcribe mainly guitarists (esp before I started playing jazz). This is great, but you can end up playing very "guitaristically" and you'll use lots of phrases that just happen to lay out easy on guitar. Learning sax solos forces you out of your comfort zone and to use the whole fretboard more musically. Its mind-opening to see the possibilities.

  • Great! I love it. Great tone and style and swing and everything. As a learning jazz guitarist, I like to try and transcribe horn solos just because there tends to be so much going on in them. I just started working on Giant Steps. I'm able to play the first chorus at half-tempo :-S. I'm giving myself until August to get the whole thing down and up to speed. This video was inspiration for me to keep going, sax solos come out great on guitar.

  • great playing

  • great.....

  • Great job man. Wonderful sound and technique, and your dog seems to be quite a fan.

  • nice work!

  • Some very good ears you've got!

  • I liked, its good to see a guitarist doing something other than a "bunch of notes"...lol

  • Great piece!

Like your laid back style of playing and the dog in the guitar case seems to agree.

  • Great job! And cool tone by the way...what's the gear you're using for this?

  • Thanks for the comments. My guitar is a hofner jazzica custom and its just going through a polytone mini-brute.

  • cool

  • Cool.

you got very chilled out dog there....and a very comfy guitar case

  • <3 Cannonball

    <3 This

    Nice work

  • your so cool!!

  • Fantastic. Tight. What did you learn from it?

  • Cheers mate. Just learn it by ear from the recording.

  • I meant.. WHAT did you learn from it?

I remember figuring out charlie parker solo at college and I learnt new ways 'attack' chords... hitting those extension notes more often etc.

    Best way to learn!

  • oops, sorry dude, miss read your comment. Have to agree with you though, I find learning a solo does help you to approach chords from a different angle. Also does a lot for you phrasing as well i think.

  • Hey mate, well done how long did it take you to learn it?

  • Fantastic! Great job!

  • nice right hand technique!

  • Excellent! Great work.

  • that was really good. i didn't know that could be done

  • Wow dude this is fantastic i really enjoyed watching it me being an alto saxophonist and big cannonball fan.
