Avon was absolutely right for his stance on Omar. You wanna play dem games in the street and be the top dawg, you gotta let it be known that anyone who fucks with you gonna pay. Its that simple. String was smart on the business side but he should have known that Avon's rep meant everything. Thats why the king stay the king
What people gonna say?????? the same thing they have been saying all along... Omar got someone else for their package... Avon just wanted to be the guy who stopped Omar so he could get a bigger rep....
Reminds me of one of the flaws of international politics: many, if not most, bad decisions come about because policy makers are worried about "prestige," "influence," or "reputation."
I love how in Season 1 Stringer is portrayed as the cebral one who's always thinking two steps ahead and is constantly looking out for Avon who in comparison is portrayed as a hot head who doesnt think about the consequences. But then is S3 they switch it, Stringer is the one who comes across as naive and gullible with his attempts at going legit, while Avon is the smart one who knew from the get go that Stringer was going to get burnt
@Soyuz19 You can't say Stringer wasn't cunning though! All that stuff where he convinced Omar that Brother Mouzone was the one who killed his boyfriend in order to ensure that one of them was removed from the picture. That was very devious!
I never said Striner wasn't cunning, I said Barksdale was the more cunning and I stand by that. The Omar-Mouzone play was fairly crude, a basic lie which Omar believed. Barksdale had the street smarts to know his limittations and stick to what he was good at. Bell had ideas above his station and ultimately paid the price for that. Avon totally in the end.
Avon was right. Have to handle a robber directly and lose no face in the process. No appearance of weakness or vunerability. Stringer had no answer to, taking my shit. You gotta remember Avon has a brother laid up in a comatose state for a reason.
Stringer's downfall was that he thought he was smarter than everyone else, and that gave him license to act in bad faith. You couldn't tell him anything even though he had serious gaps in his understanding of how the streets operate. Orlando's package, the Brother Mouzon deception, D's murder, the Sunday morning attempt on Omar's life. The list goes on and on. He underestimated people's intelligence and ultimately died because of that.
man avon aka sexy as wood harris was a real niggas stringer was loyal but he backstab avon and set him up all he care bout the money and being a bitch
I get Avon's point tho. While String is right that the smart thing to do would be lay low for a bit and let Omar come out in the opening, Avon understands what they would in the streets and in this game your power is only as good as your rep. Like Jay-Z said the Streets is Watching and if they see that a stick up boy can rob your shit at anytime and you don't hit back, you gonna be viewed as weak.
Yeah, Chris is like a Stringer Bell who evolved more into a street soldier, he has the intelligence and foresight like Stringer, but he's also out there on the front lines committing executions on Marlo's behalf, which Stringer never participated in.
@Sogecyborg It deffo is the same, but when you the one runnin the show, you can't let anyone away with stealin from you or everyone gonna think they can try, its that simple
Omar's not stupid. He knew what stringer's plan was. Watch the scene where Omar's wired for the police in exchange for medical care of his injury caused by Weebay's retaliation.
Stringer was by no means my favorite character, but he was 100% correct here.

Exactly what I thought too. Bell was the more 'intelligent' of the two but Barksdale by far the most cunning. There are no college classes for that.
