@2454014 Holcomb C3-R's main goal is to stabilize vision and the Keratoconus. Often it will be combined with Intacs and other procedures to IMPROVE vision and allow people to regain their lives again.
I just turned 16, and I'm on the exact same path as this kid once was. My doctor told me at my last check-up that if I don't have some sort of surgical intervention, I WILL be blind with the next 5 years. Luckily there is a procedure called corneal collagen crosslinking, but sadly it's not covered by insurance yet. It's going to cost our family $7,000-$8,000. I'll actually be getting the procedure done in about 5 days.
I think it is absolutely wonderful that this doctor donated his services and time to help a person in need. Its too bad with all the stupid government spending people cant just have free health care without losing so much just trying to get by let alone ahead in life. Dr. Brian performed C3-R on my 15 yr old three years ago. Her eyes remain the same-no advancement of the Keratoconus! She wears soft contact lenses for regular vision correction for near sightedness. He's our hero!!
It's been 2 years since I had my procedure done and my vision is stable it's not the best but it's better than being blind. I'm a gamer and without my vision, I don't know what I'd be doing now if I didn't have this done in time :)
I have KC in both eyes and had them treated by Dr. Brian last year and so far no progression has been detected. It is good that they are getting the word out to the general public because so many people have no idea about it. I went to multiple eye doctors for over a year before Dr. Manger properly diagnosed my KC. I have Keratoconus and Dr. Boxer Wachler saved my eyesight! To hear that you are going blind is a very scary, isolating feeling but the micracle work Dr. Wachler is doing is very freeing!

Does cross-linking actually improves the vision and makes it better? or just stabilize it?
