  • i love this game still :) great music!!!

  • You now possess Dracula's junk...lol

  • Lol my NES is just sitting in closet calling for me to play Metroid, Castlevania, Mario, and Star fox XD

  • Ultimate Simons Quest Passcode - PNJV-LRBV-U2DT-ULYZ

Figured this might help folks who are frustrated and stuck somewhere in the game and just say Ah what the hell I'm gonna cheat, I know I sure did.

  • It is a f*cking terrible night to have a mother f*cking curse! >:(

  • the creator of this game is a vegan

  • I loved this game...brings back good memories.

  • Awesome classic game!!! Got this as a ROM on my computer!

  • Dude, you are beasting!

  • Still the greatest video game soundtrack of all time. Amazing what they could get out of such a limited sound system. - it makes today's composers seem lazy by comparison.

  • This game was so awesome, twenty-three years ago.

  • Thumbs up with AVGN brought you here. :D

  • omg he now prossess dracula's rib oh the typo's NES games had back then lol ah nowadays theres glitches in todays games or back in older games lol

  • this takes me back! awesome!

  • Thumbs up if you "process" Dracula's rib...:D

  • doesn't anyone find it gross that you're collecting body parts?

  • @Tedst3r If you had a curse on your spine that was going to painfully kill you, I don't think you'd care what you had to do.

  • I used play this game all day! I love how there was a day and night section!

  • @jones0882 I like that there are night and day too, but I hate that in interrupts the game

  • the music is great

  • I need advise. I remember that when I get to the cliff I need a red crystal thing and I need to duck down so the tornado can take me away. Where do I get the red crystal thing?

  • @marilyn007manson1 White Cristal is in the first town. then, you got to exchange it for a Blue one and then the Blue for a Red one. You got to talk to people. Look at part 3 at 54secs and then part 7 at 2.56... ;)

  • This game is screaming for a remake. It was a little ahead of it's time. I don't care how great a gamer you were this game and the first Zelda was nearly impossible without a strategy guide of some sort.

  • @donpstar OMG, not at all. Those were not that hard. Zelda was really easy to go through without a guide. Castlevania 2 was harder, but for old schooled players like me, it was just a matter of time, because all clues needed in order to solve the riddles were existing. The only needed thing was to look after them, which I did. So it wasn't that hard. ;)

  • @HalDanGhor just ordered this shit i love the tunes and did not have a guide when i was young

  • @jamesheindl Never had a guide as well when I was young. We are the guides now. ;)

  • @donpstar I too am nostalgic, and to mod would not scoff... BUT...

I would not want to see any of the big developers involved... Even Konami. It could & would likely only turn it into a steaming pile of excrement, as evidenced by nearly every other "remake".

I would like a mod(?). Updated graphics, deeper backgrounds and music... but keep the code intact. Part of what made it so great to me was the "new" RPG elements, integrated with the twitch platform style of the day in 2dSS's.

    I <3 it as is.

  • @donpstar Might I suggest you look up Pixelation:"Wayofthpixel . Net"? It is a pretty awesome community...

  • @donpstar Castlevania 2 wasn't hard at all. It was tedious, it was annoying, it took a lot of time, but it wasn't difficult. There was stupid stuff like bad translation, false information from villagers, obscure secrets that you needed to know to finish the game, but none of this is real challenge or difficulty. It's just sloppy execution. Castlevania 1 and 3 had actual challenge where you figured out how to fight monsters and then executed your jumps with perfect timing. Those were GOOD games.

  • Great game, terribly intricate, but extremely beautiful!

  • @panik100 Yup! You were better removing that one... If you played Castlevania 2 and did not know about this invisible block, well, rewrite your channel message about video games! He! He! He! ;)

  • The towns people always lie, for instance "make a hole with your head in the deborah cliff" wtf?

  • @TheWaynelds Right. Lots of people in town will lie. this game is the very first game I ever bought. In the little book of the game, we would learn that some villagers are liars, so we knew that some of their clues were not good. We had to discover the good clues, which the 13 hidden book throughout the game. With those, we could discover everything that was needed in order to finish the game. ;)

  • @HalDanGhor Yeah my favorite one was "Don't look into the death star or you will die!" haha ok whats that supposed to mean?!?! Oh yeah, why is it when you visit that one town, everyones mad at you, sayin something like "after castlevania I warned you not to return" or "Get out of this town!" I didnt realize i did anything to piss them off lol.

  • @TheWaynelds Ha! Ha! Ha! yes! :)

  • @HalDanGhor And there was this man, who wanted Simon to take his daughter, and a woman who wanted to meet him at night, I thought, I have to marry her and so I waited for her, but she never came. XD

    I love this game!

  • I like the music after bloody tears

  • Hey man, je prend un boute de ton video pour ma séquence d'ouverture du cover de bloody tears (une 15ene de secondes), tu chekeras ça, thanks !

  • @frednintendomusic Good! Bonne chance avec ton vidéo! ;)

  • Who's Footprints Are These?

  • Can somebody tell me why they didn't just use money bags instead of hearts...

  • @Omega666Evil cause this isn't symphony of the night which btw is NOT castlevania

  • @Nox4ever00 Listen kid I played Castlevania when you were still shitting your pampers..Besides the story is what makes it Castlevania not the way its played..Sure the 2d's will always be better..All I said was that when they first made Castlevania they used money bags for score so when they finally made this one why not use money to buy stuff...that's all I meant..

  • @Omega666Evil maybe its time you stepped out of the 2d world and advanced its 2011 its time to cut that mullet man. Also Castlevania is about the Belmonts not about Alucard so Symphony of the night and all the Metroidvania games are NOT castlevania

  • @Nox4ever00 LOL funny..Last time I answer back so listen up..The main man himself put all the stories together except legends..so deal with it and grow up..(Mullet lol never had one was still young. Grew up more in the 90's.I was 6 years old when I played the first 2 castlevania's)

  • I had this game and I loved it!! I am a chick too! I played the shit out of this game back in the 90's! Way to go dude! I can't believe you still have it!

  • never finish the game :( and i was so scare when i was kid LOL

  • 1:20 - 1:21 = total pwnage LOL!!!

  • A classic. In the days because walkthroughs and cheat, I remember spending hours and hours playing this game and exploring every area in order to beat it. Kids these days have it easy. In the '80s, we had to work hard to beat games on our own. Haha!!

  • This game is the definition of "Awesome premise, but awful execution"

  • This game was/is simply awesome.

  • "prosess" how did they fuck that up?!?!?

  • wow made it through part 1 without annoying box

  • 4:08

    "pRosess"???

  • Wow I remember this game from so long ago!!! It is like no time has past watching it here.

  • LOL "You now prosess Dracula's Rib" xD

  • 4:05 Spelling Error

  • This brings back amazing memories. The music in this game has to probably be my most favourite of any video game. Thanks for posting this!

  • Good olde Castles 2:>

  • WOW no mamar como le sufri yo con este juego y mas en laparte que te tienes que quedar agachado jejejeje dure como un año sin saber que onda con esa parte hasta que en la escuela me diejron como hacerle jejeje bueno juego.

  • WHAT A HORRIBLE NIGHT TO HAVE A CURSE.

  • Have no idea what comment I posted to look so "robotic", so um... yeah.

  • what a horribal night to have a curse...........

  • the only thing is you're a fucking cheater who couldn't start the game with 50 hearts and low life like the rest of us, besides that great job.

  • @MrTimmytoucha But I started the game with 50 Hearts like anybody else, except that I started recording once I got 256 Hearts, Level 6, and 99 days. You analysed me very bad. Sorrys. ;)

  • @HalDanGhor

Shoot. I wish that I could start off with 256 hearts and buy almost anything in the game. lol ;)

  • @luxurious297 Grinding them takes almost no time. I had to let the game play for days, to get my days to 99. The longest part was to get my level 6, with monsters who only game me something like 2 experience points, and required 16 hits at night with the Leather Whip. ;)

  • @HalDanGhor

hello how did you star with 256 harts. that's kind of cool did you enter a code or something ??

  • @Coolpro99 No code or anything. I fought before recording, which means I got to level 6, got 256 hearts, and got my days to 99 as well. I made it look as if I was starting the game, but, really, I just got my character to be at the starting position right after a night of curse, so the music would start at that right spot as well. The proof is in the fact that when you truly begin the game, the screen will scroll to get to the character. In the beginning of my vid, it's already ok as music starts

  • @HalDanGhor excuse me but i know its prettyh nooby but how do u regain health like seriously!!

  • @ManWithFreedom Go talk to a Priest in a church, or just let your character die. ;)

  • @MrTimmytoucha Lol fucking moron. Anyone with common sense could have told you that he recorded after level/heart grinding

  • @MrTimmytoucha Fuck you cockweasle. I doubt you ever have played a game legit. He didn't cheat. Suck a dick you judgemental videogame "perfectionist" liar cockass.

  • mmm processed dracula ribs. The 'other' white meat

  • good work on prossessing dracula's ribs ^^

  • 1 of my favo games.

Specialy that music keeps u going and searching the way further.

  • 4:09 Gotta love the typos

  • how long would it take you to finish this game? i finished it today in 1 1/2 -2 hours.

  • @aapenjong I guess it would take me approximately the same, if I decided to just go for the finish. However, I am not the kind of player who really cares about the play time.

  • To me, there was always something special about this game. The graphics are great for a title developed relatively early in the NES's life cycle and the soundtrack is among the best on that console. I've played and beaten most of the games in the Castlevania series, but this one just had so much re-playability; it's definitely the CV game that I've spent the most time playing. I think it just became trendy to bad mouth this game after AVGN made his video.

  • "You now prosess Dracula's rib." Awesome. I love processing those.

  • Nice work on prossessing Dracula's rib!

  • Comment removed

  • Ok. Thanks.

  • Ok. Sorry. It was just some advice. Anyways thankyou for making these videos. I just got this game on the Wii Virtual Console. It is more fun than I thought. Without these videos, I would have gotten lost.

  • @alexgodzillafan3328 You're welcome! Have fun buddy! :)

  • Dude, you could have just gone to the 2nd town and gotten the chain whip, which only costs 50 hearts more than the thorn whip, and does twice the damage.

  • @alexgodzillafan3328 I know, but I wanted to show the location of all items for the viewers. ;)

  • Cheater. I haven't used a game genie on this game since I was 10.

  • @Luigi84289 And I never used a game genie of my own life! I did the grinding all by myself. Sorrys if you cannot see that I am a true player. Lots of people cheat in there, but I don't need to cheat. I did the grinding to save people from seing it, and to show people the top level, which is level 6. Nothing big getting to level 6. Play Lineage 2. You'll see what true grinding is... ;)

  • INVEST in an oak stake? Absolutely

  • lol at "prossess" typo

  • @sk8b0ard3r Not only prossess he says you know prossesS (plural xD)

  • Very Well! You're the best Player! By from Italy!

  • Brings back memories. Love this game.

  • I had this game for my gameboy advance, it had 180 NES games, this was one of them and it was glitched, everyone except simon was nintendo & sega characters, luigi's & toads walking around, mario, link, sonic was hanging from a rope, but now i see this and i see that my game was broke lol.

  • epic music ^.^

  • This was my favorite castlevainia until SOTN came out. They are both great games with excellent music.

  • i was obsessed with this game when i first got it for my birthday.

  • the best castlevania i ever played. finished it last summer

  • jump attack ftw!!

  • This game was so confusing as a little child. I never knew where to go.

  • Prosess? PROSESS? Doesn't anyone proofread this shit!? [/AVGN]

  • @maggosh i was wondering too... was like wtf...

  • este juego es feom mejor jugaré a Paper Mario world =D

  • This is still my favorite Castlevania ever

  • how to download?

  • yo pienso que los juegos de nes antiguos han sido los mejores y mas interezantes por eso no se ha perdido nada de lo que teniamos antes, esos juegos son legendarios

  • this game is the best game i ever play when i was child and today now i realise he is always the best game i ever play, and soundtrack is and stay and will stay awesome

  • Those old NES games can sure be obtuse. This one and Metroid gave me migraines.

  • You now PROssess dracula's rib.

  • I am on the location where you get Dracula's rib, and I have hit it with the whip and everything but it won't give it to me, any idea why?

  • @vidhead85 If you look carefully at my vids, you can notice that I hit the Crystal Ball with the Oak Stake. ;)

  • @HalDanGhor How do you do that, I've tried to use it but it never did it for me

  • @vidhead85 Hold the "Up" direction, then press "B" to use those kinds of items...

  • I love that Castlevania-game. It was the first one, not the best from the whole series for sure (C IV for SNES is my favourite) but it was pretty fun. I already posted on AVGN's vid and got flamed, that i don't have a "good game taste" (whatever that means) and it's nice to see that here also people are around with own opinion not only following a showmaster. Sure AVGN is sometimes right but in this case... nope.

  • @GamesPresnRevs Hi dude! Well, AVGN is there for the show. No need to take for granted what he says. He has his opinions, and they might differ from his own show. However, sometimes, he'll tell the whole truth though! :)

My opinion on simon's quest is that it was one of the great games we could play in the early Nintendo years. No tricks from nowhere, and we got to learn to find clues for ourselves, and the challenge was better than what we get with new games today... No internet back then ;)

  • That's what i'm talking about: no walkthroughs, no cheats/cheating devices, just learning by doing! Miss the good old days...

  • So, what you mean is for you to get a new game and litterally feel great because of the mysteries, and the fact that you might be the only one around in your region to get passed it? (since there are no tricks, hints nowhere!) (for example) :)

  • Yes (not in a selfish way, don't get me wrong).

It's just: games cost a lot, so why use cheats+finish games immediately?! Made maps for Zelda1+2 on my own,

nowadays we have auto-mapping (good thing) but when i see some games with that automatic player support in New SMB Wii for example -don't know what it's called- i ask myself: WTF?!

  • I understand! ;)

  • @GamesPresnRevs i so agree... what is the point of using cheats? it proves you know how to read? if you use cheat books (ect) i just see it as buying a very expensive movie...this is interresting to see after you solve this game on your own what you might of missed...

  • @GamesPresnRevs Well...for a person that is not a gamer, a walkthrough helps!

  • @GamesPresnRevs

I agree, I love the AVGN, but I never take what he has to say to heart. He does what he does for entertainment. He isn't trying to make some cult following...

  • YEAH!! castlevania!!! I used to play nintendo games for hours!! I now own pc/ps3 games which i play 2-3 times per week lol ps3 collecting dust... I would rather play fun games than to play games with killer graphics/sound but no fun at all.

btw: reality tv shows killed regular tv....sigh!

  • @excelx213 I'm with you i am only 14 but i love the old games that i didn't grow up with and the only reasons why i play games is because their fun and not because their good looking.

  • @gamer424 im with u all the way on that one im gonna be 14 too 19 january!woot xD

  • @excelx213 i bought a PS3 also played it for one week...stop for a month played another new game for 2 days and stopped...2 unopened games...i remember playing zelda 2(nes) for 16 hours a day...at 2am feel so proud solving it...looking around noone to witness it...final fantacy/dragon warrior 6-10 hour a day...caslevania 1-3...i love the newness of going to a new town and see who/what ect was there...

  • @excelx213 i agree with everyting u said even about tv

  • This game's dungeons never match the gameplay of the first or third, but it's got a nice style and the rpg elements aren't that bad.

  • I like Castlevania 1 and 3 alot, but if you want to play something different like a RPG game, Castlevania 2 is a good choice.

  • I usually just skip the Thorn Whip. It really isn't worth all those hearts, especially when there's a Chain Whip in the next town.

  • Yeah! Me too! I even only buy the Morning Star. However, I wanted to show every item in this run! :)

  • Dude...You are a beast at this game.

  • Thank you very much! You made me remember that it was one of the very first, if not the first game I borrowed/rent from a grocery. Great memories! I didn't play since I worked this run. I saved it on a dvd, so it's safe in my things, and can look at it again! :)

  • love this music

  • true

  • maaaaan

  • Anyone else notice they spelled "possess" as "prossess" ?

  • AVGN does.

  • CTMV W26K R5KN SIBK.... The code that gives everything in this game. I cant remember what I had for lunch but I can remember that...

  • ugg! i always hated those damn muttclams on this game. they were so annoying. thered be like 2 or 3 muttclams at one time too.

  • Hell yeah, that's bloody tears.

  • I just realized this game has the best soundtrack of all time

  • @ArmenianAssassin It has good songs, but there's only like 5 of them. The day, night, town, mansion and boss theme. They kick ass.

  • @ArmenianAssassin very creepy too lol remember when I was little it was very sary

  • I am currentley playing the Japanese Version and I hate how you lose hearts after you die. I still need a new whip and what a pain in the ass.

  • dude u cheated to start this game..... i remember playin this game and it was frustrating but still fun to play and i loved the ending track to get to dracula though he was easy as hell.... but ya still cheated to start the game with full health and max heart points to buy everything

  • Not at all. I did the grinding, as I did for almost if not all my runs in there. Doing so before starting to record allowed me to show more play than useless fighting just to get more money or hearts... ;)

  • I'm just guessing : how can you grind so high without going far (you don't have the items for) ? Because monsters near the begining stop giving Exp when you got like level 3 and you are obviously higher than this.

  • On, I went much farther than it looks. Yes, for level 3 or more, we need to get farther, where monsters still give experience points. Unfortunately, I had to very slowly get my final level in the eastern cemetary, where we get the Silver Knife. I also got my days to 99, for fun! :)

  • ok, check this out - in retrospect, yeah, you can say this game isn't very replayable or an all-time great... but i guarantee anyone who played it when it was released found it both challenging and adventurous.

i remember liking it as a kid, and back in the day without the internet, you had to rely on nintendo power and it was more fun having to figure out the crouch/crystal part.

anyone who talks sht about this game stfu, games like this helped pave the way

  • Also, it's got one hell of an awsome soundtrack.

  • What a horrible night to have a curse!

  • I so appreciate this video, nostalgia at its best. Me and my brother played this when we were around 4, so we never actually completed the game (with it being in English, which we didn't speak at the time) - but the music still makes me smile. Thanks!

  • lol "You now PROSESS Dracula's heart" Omg typos in a game.

  • This Castlevania stands out because of the quest element. You need to visit various villages, get clues, buy items and collect dracula's parts. In addition there's day & night which creates an extra atmosphere.

Fans of this game will like Faxanadu as well.

  • How did you start out with so much life and hearts (money) ?

  • It looks like I started with full Hearts, level 6 and full 99 days. In fact, I did the grinding before starting my run. Then, with a screenshot, I got simon to be at approx. the startign location and started to record my run when the music restarted after a horrible cursed night ended! ;)

  • @HalDanGhor How do you get that Dracula's Rib, I used cheat code DINT XXDY 445X V3ZX to start off and I think it gave me everything. However, I kept hitting the "rib" but it didn't give it to me, would you happen to know why?

  • @vidhead85 Yup! I just answered it for you dude! ;)

  • Errr... That should read "Metroid". Damn typos...

  • i saw SOTN as a mix between this game and Metroid.

  • One of you may be right. Without this game, we probably wouldn't have Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, once of the best Castlevania games ever.

  • thanks VexerZero, Historia and Vgplayer for clearing up what SOTN means and I agree, the game looks good.

  • People don't realise what Konami started with the second game. Without Simon's Quest, we probably wouldn't have SOTN

  • sotn?

  • @haxter1234 Symphony of the Night, which is considered to be the best Castlevania...for its time I suppose

  • yes symphony of the night for playstation 1 great game

  • symphony of the night. Its a game for the playstation (now available on psn as well). I heard bad things about castlevania 2 since the developers are the same as for zelda 2 but atleast castlevania is supposed to be a side scroller unlike the zelda series.

  • Well, Konami still could have used Metoid as inspiration if this game didn't exist.

  • avgn sucks at game

  • @ cjphoto23

He was probably young when he first played it. Those days playing that game may have been the reason why he hated it. He reviewed it again and he didn't mind it as much. I think he learned to appreciate it a little more, so don't give him a hard time with it. Just thought I tell you that. :) Have a nice day.
