It might have been unfair that he was not given a second chance, but he was not upfront (no details given) about what prevented him from attending the workshop, and the excuse of getting the timing mixed up is just plain pfftt.

This isn't even about a second chance or whatever. And if this is what is touted as "reality TV" I worry for all of us performers in Singapore.
