You people don't get it.....there was severe flooding out here in the outer banks, some people lost everything. Siding, shingles and flashing were ripped from homes. The storm also dropped some tornados from the outer bands and caused people to lose their entire homes (just demolished in the blink of an eye)! I don't live on ocracoke, but I live in Kill Devil Hills (on the outer banks). Your ignorance angers me!
This island is a 2 hour 30 minutes ferry ride from the mainland. The island, at it's widest point, is only a mile or so wide. Most sections are much thinner, and the ocean and sound can be seen from both sides. It is a very dangerous place to be if there is flooding.
The full force of Irene missed Ocracoke but hit further up toward Hatteras Island and Irene quickly downgraded to more of a tropical storm rather than a hurricane.
@wctje777 are you serious??? average storm? this was before the storm even hit. Many people have been without power and stranded on a island. i dont think this is JUST WEATHER!!! Peoples homes are ruined because of this disaster.
meh, come live at the North Sea. Typical bad weather here :p Last week f.e., big storm, some cities flooded and wind up to 120 kmph. we're used to it :p
Thats hurricane irene... Will im not gonna lie I was expecting like, 5 twisters, cows flying all over the place random explosions of thunder but you know... thats bad too i guess

We stayed at a home a few years ago just a few doors down from this lighthouse. The home was over 100 years old. Hope all fared well during Irene.

@cshook123
This is Ocracoke Island in North Carolina. My favorite vacation spot. I'm about 3.5 hours from there.
VeganVeggiePatch 6 months ago
@VeganVeggiePatch Oh OK looks beautiful. Hope you are all doing well with the storm. Looks like the flooding is the major concern.
cshook123 6 months ago
When was this filmed? I love that island so much and am praying for little damage and a speedy recovery.
How are the conditions now?
