  • I have an acutal postcard written on and signed by Unruh from Prison. Its now for sale if anyone is serious. I have never seen another offered for sale before. Send me a message if interested

  • I can't believe I'm related to this son of a bitch.

  • This man is my great uncle.

  • he dead now. I feel sad for him. I feel sad for killers who are institutionalized

  • He heard he was put in a mental institution

  • Unruhs like me belong to a German family. He probably felt like a traitor. What a sick bastard.

  • Unruhs like me belong to a German family. He probably felt like a traitor.

  • I am an Unruh. What branch of the family is this nut from?

  • i wish all these documentaries on these guys were like this most of them are to talky this on the right track.

  • all over a blooming gate?

  • all over a friggin gate?

  • Howard Unruh was not the father of mass murder or even the first such spree killer in the United States. If you research and look on wiki the first such killing rampage happened in Winfeild,Kansas in 1903 when 30 year old Gilbert Twigg fired into a crowd of spectators during the Camen Band Parade killing 9 and wounding 25.According to reports Twigg fired and relaoded 8 times from a 12 gauge double barreled shot gun before killing himself. He hallucinated that the town people were out to get him.

  • @xposedfilm- i think u did a great job w/ this docu. only problem i had was audio n the background. it drowned out some of ur words & was unable 2 understand, but all n all it was great, i njoyed it. XD I would like 2 know tho, when u said Unruh was the 1st of military-trained mass-murderers, y did u nclude dahmer & shawcross? they were serial killers, altho they did kill many, they arent mass-murderers. was it simply because they were trained by & n the military? KEEP IT UP!! IMPRESSIVE! XXD

  • @MARVIA35 Thanks. Didn't see your comment until now. Thanks.

  • I couldn't get the google maps streetview to work, but if you type in 'Gomez Shoes - 3200 River Ave 08105" in google maps and then drag the orange man to the streetview, that is Unruh's and the Cohen's house. The lot to the left was the barber shop.

  • wow...you did this yourself,I'm impressed!

  • Although little was known about schizophrenia at the time, looking back the guy is clearly a paranoid schizophrenic. It always surfaces when a person is in their 20's, though most are non-violent. His war experiences were probably just a trigger; the guy was mentally ill. Which means he probably wasn't able to know his actions were wrong AT THE TIME he committed them. I just think "this human piece of garbage" stuff is too black and white. He was a broken person.

  • No way, even if he is a pioneer,Whitman was better!

  • Howard Unrah was a pioneer of the mass-shooting phenomenon. This societal torture victim showed us that the individual is not powerless against society to gain Truth-based justice. I might add Howard to My website.

  • Turn background music down and more treble on your modulation

  • I did a little bit of research and found out the Trenton Psycratric Hospital as it's now called was founded by Dorothea Dix who fouded St. Elizabeth's Hospital in D.C. too. To say the least, I'm glad he kicked the bucket too. Again, he shouldn't been allowed to live to be 88, that is longer than both of my grandfather's.

  • @LolaCrazy222 hi, i know u posted a yr ago, but i just wanted 2 tell i agree completely. clownfreak9000 needs 2 tell THAT 2 the many vics that died and the UNHAPPY 4 the REST OF THEIR LIVES fam that suffered this tragic lost. if only the 2 & 6yr olds couldve lived their happy long lives like THEY DESERVED. SMH- all those poor ppl. he certainly didnt discriminate when it came 2 gender & age. maaan, women AND babies

  • Comment removed

  • Out of all the serial killers Howard Unruh is my favroite. That doesn't mean I condone what he did. I'm glad he kicked the bucket too. Why was he allowed to go to a rehab center in the first place? He didn't deserve to live to be 88 years old either. That's longer than both of my grandfathers. But thank you for posting this documentary anyway.

  • @LolaCrazy222 he was allowed to because everyone deserves a second chance , and theres no reason he wouldnt deserve to live to an old age , while tehres no way around the fact what he did was wrong , everyone even him deserved to live a happy long life

  • they should have reopened the case and given him a trial

  • I have a hand written postcard sent from Howard Unruh.....

  • I say that you did a very very good job man,

  • We should be the bigger people and forgive Unruh for his crimes. R.I.P. Unruh and the victims of his rampage.

  • @SARDU1976

yes i agree we should be worring about no name Maddox (Chrles Manson) and what would happen if he gets out on parrol

  • 88 years of hell.

  • To everyone who follows the Howard Unruh story, i am proud to say that he finally kicked the bucket. He passed away this past Sunday at a rehab center in New Jersey.

  • Very well job on the research. Voice over was not bad. The story on CNN said that Charles Cohen had his parents murdered by Howard Unruh and that he had been waiting for his death only to die two months before Unruh.

  • Two months. I hope Cohen found some peace with himself before he died.

  • i think you should make more quick documentaries about people like this. Way better than those A and E docs that just interview people and have them blab on.

  • owned

  • nice that he is dead now:D

  • Good documentary.

It's obscene that this human piece of garbage made it to 88 years of age.

But that's New Jersey for you,

they love to coddle their murderers.

  • I had a relative who got into a fight with his family over his sister marry a black guy and they sent him to stay with Howard

  • HE's DEAD NOW as of OCT 20, 2009

  • Are the buildings where this took place still up?

  • I think so. All but one of them where up when I shot some of those exteriors. The barber shop was the only one that wasn't. I'm not so sure now, though.

  • so you filmed the actual buidlings where the icident took place?

  • He has ceased to be!

  • 60 years later this b@stard got his death sentence. So many have suffered in those 60 years.

Nice documentary.... And, your narration is pretty good!

  • Thanks. You're being way to kind though, I was hoping to have someone proper do it eventually.

  • You did a very good job, you should be proud. My mother grew up in Gloucester City, a town next door to Camden. To this day she is haunted by what this sick man did 60 years ago. She was very close to that area just minutes before this happened. I can remember when I was little she would talk about the boy on the horse a lot, it really bothered her. Today this is so common, back then mass murder was unheard of. This creep started it all and probably lived a good life for 60 years.

  • He died today.

  • Howard Unruh died today. Last month on the anniversary of the murders, my grandfather, Charles Cohen was laid to rest after 60 years of living with the memory of Unruh shooting his family in cold blood ingrained into his memory. Its ironic that the person who hid in the closet to keep from being killed by Unruh passed away before he did.

  • Howard is still very much alive. I know this because i work with him every day. I asked him do he regret doing what he did and he said no if given the chance he'll do it again

  • Wow. I knew was alive but didn't know he still could carry a conversation.

  • I have an actualy postcard signed from him to his brother....

  • I have no feelings for this man. There were people who lost their marbles in WWII but took care of themselves by seeing psychologists. An egotistical, clever, murderer...

  • Great video about a largely forgotten episode.I've been interested in Unruh for years - his endless incarceration even more so than his rampage.I've dug up every scrap of info I can and here's what I know.

Unruh is alive and his schizophrenia is degenerative. He spends most of his time walking in small circles. The only recent quote from him I've unearthed is "Guns and mental illness don't mix".He is now 88 years old with a thyroid condition and stays close to hospital staff due to his fear of....

  • Thanks for the info. I saw in the paper today marks the 60th anniversary.

  • Hey did you see that he passed away today?

  • Damn I have the same last name as the Father of Mass Murderers...that sux. At least this shit happened so long ago no ones heard of it, it would suck ass being named Dahmer or Bundy these days heh heh!!!

  • I heard during WWII he fought in an open top tank, dont know exactly what they're called

  • I live in Camden

  • Father of Mass Murder

    how about jack the ripper

  • Actually he's an example of a serial killer. Mass Murderer does it at one time.

  • explain, so you say this guy in the clip killed all at once instead over a period, so sorry how long was the killing spree

  • I'm pretty sure i mentioned it in the film, but it was like 10 minutes. The ripper did it over months...maybe years.

  • Nice job! I liked especially that you showed how River Road looks today. Do you know if the house Howard lived in is still standing?

  • There's a difference between mass murderers and serial killers. Serial killers, like Dahmer, kill one at a time; mass murderers, like Unruh, kill a slew of people all at once..

  • Lots of veterans become targeted individuals because they know too much about things like, shooting civilians, etc. TI's are driven to paranoia on purpose, often by gov't forces, in the hopes to discredit them and what they know. Check out my video for more info.

  • There is an orgasmic pleasure in killing I think

  • Very interesting piece, thx for posting.I had difficulty with the narration as well.Overall, well done.If you get a chance I'd like to see a remake.H.U. had to have been mental but killing a two year old should've made him a candidate for riding the lighning in '49.Keep up the good work

  • that's what i was about to say too- war related trauma. Or he could have just been crazy to begin with..jk

  • So what happened to this guy; Was his mind still in WW2? Post traumatic stress disorder?

  • I'm sure today they'd call it post trumatic stress, but since they never went to trial and he was just declared insane there is little known about his mindset. I believe he a lot of schizophrenia issues beyond the pts issuess.

  • yeah, I'm sorry about the narration. That's me trying to do too many things at one time. I've been too busy to drop in another narration, but hope to in the future. I actually had to shrink the audio a bit to fit the video so that's why there it's ramped up. I have a friend who does voice overs and one day I'll get him to add it.

    Thanks for the comments!

  • Great video. Where were you able to get all of the pictures?

  • thanks. I found them various places on the internet. like corbis and for some I just used stock photos for like the bullets and egg shots.

  • this might make a blockbuster of a movie.

  • Not any time soon.

There would be to many lawsuits

  • My 87 year old MOm knew this man and said he was a "nice boy" and is in some denial about the mayhem he caused. I have a photo of him taken by a friend of my Mom when they were all upstate on a summer retreat. My MOm thinks he cracked due to PTSD from experiences in the war

  • Your mom is somewhat correct. PTSD was part of the problem.

  • Good story ,BUT: Your reading this like your in a hurry to get to the end. At times I can not understand you, your words run together and you never speak in a mono toned voice while talking. Let your voice move up & down ,use some emotion when telling a story! The Music is probably good for the background music IF it were in the background. It is SO loud ,at times I cant understand a word you are saying. Again, good story. Not so good TELLING it! We all get better ,keep trying!

  • He is 87 going on 88.

  • This video is very well done, but the narration really detracts from it. It sounds like the narrator is reading from a script which he doesn't like and is just trying to get through. It's a shame because the rest of the video is so compelling. Definitely worth getting a good narration to go along with this.

  • I read about this in an excellent book called Inside the Minds of Mass Murderers by Katherine Ramsland, and the video gave faces to the people in the book... The only negative is that the audio is very hard to understand...the reader sort of mumbles and does not enunciate words and the sound effects makes it hard to clearly hear the story...overall, however, very interesting!

  • Maybe not James Earl Jones, but I think you did a great job... ^_^ I'm just reading about this case in "Homicide: 100 Years of Murder in America".

  • My mother lived three blocks away on Lois Avenue. She was thirteen when it happened. She remembers seeing the carousel horse with blood on it in the barber shop. I grew up in Cramer Hill too on Tyler Avenue. I am so glad to be out of there. Murder, drugs, theft, and fires were common occurrences when I lived there. They can never change that no matter how much money they use to rehab Camden. People who are fortunate enough get out, and the less fortunate along with the criminals stay.

  • thanks for commenting. It's amazing that section is considered one of the better neighborhoods. Thats how bad camden is.

  • im related to this guy

  • dam this guy must be old

  • i live in philly, right near camden. on unruh street. i doubt it does but are they connected in any way

  • i think the street name outdates howard by several decades so unless it was named for a distant relative I don't think there is any connection.

  • i can't believe that happen in the city that i was born and raised in thank god that i wasn't born back then cause that dude would have been dead

  • Unruh, that bastard is still alive in Trenton Psychiatric Hospital. I believe Unruh is a German term meaning "unruly".

  • unrest. and it's not unruh it's unruhe

  • actually, it is unruh

  • Really? What makes you think he is still alive?

  • you can see for yourself on wikipedia and see about this scum, I don't know for how long will he be around, not that I like this animal, in fact I hate people like him, I'm just surprised that this beast is still here.

  • You hate him huh? Too bad you're no better than him.

  • he is definitely still alive

  • i work with Howard, he is alive

  • dead now finally, the old prick

  • this piece of shit should have been fried over 50 years ago...

  • im related to that piece of shit

  • I live near Camden where this all happened.

  • I spent the first two years there. They're not doing the eminent domain there still are they. That was the rumor when I was there.

  • That was a good documentary. Your narration was good, despite the grizzly, gloomy subject matter, none the less, Howard, that piece of garbage scum of the earth is behind bars and that was years and years ago. My thoughts and condolesence go out to the family, though it was in 1949. None the less, good job xposedfilm. (continued)

  • Thanks!

  • There is nothing wrong with learning things, even if some stories are not pleasant to read or hear about. I know right from wrong. Someone once said that "if you don't learn from the past, we are doomed to repeat it." Good job. Take care.

  • Bull sh1t he should of gotten the death sentence that aint fair

  • Was this a school project ??
