Space is a vacuum; therefore, the use of wings in space is purely useless. Why did the "space plane" of that day look like a DC-8? That always bothered me.
@CaptainAwesomeoh13 I'm guessing they are supposed to take off from the ground, fly in space, and then land again....you need wings to land horizontally in an atmosphere; the space shuttles only needed their wings to glide back after reentry. I guess the space planes looked like DC-8s because Hubbard was reinforcing that humans remember their past lives as aliens, or he was too stoned/lazy to come up with something else.
@MrJohndoakes Very true, but you'd figure these uber aliens would have advanced to the point where they'd have reverse magnitism or anti-gravity engines.

I've noticed that Hubbard was pretty sloppy in his Scientology writing or speeches when it came to alien technology; note that he said he was nearly run over by a locomotive on Venus, and not a hover train!
