  • This is one of my favorite Bach cantatas. I read somewhere that BWV 61 is more famous, but I preffer BWV 62.

  • amazing... wonderful!!! Thank you for uploading!!!

    Greets

  • Cette musique c'est merveilleuse!!!! Merci Bach pour l'inspiration que tu nous donne!

  • Anyone Found the chorale at the end of the cantata on the internet yet?

  • Good one! I would recommend version from John Eliot Gardiner.

  • phantastic music ! ! !

Bach was one of the greatest in all time.

  • Sublime music !!! Just listen to the talents of Bach and listen to the crap they call music today !!!

  • @NaturalBornHedonist couldn't say it better!

  • Beautiful. Thank you for posting :)

  • Nun komm, der Heiden Heiland,

    Der Jungfrauen Kind erkannt!

    Dass sich wundre alle Welt,

    Gott solch' Geburt ihm bestellt.

(Now come, Saviour of the gentiles,

recognised as the child of the Virgin,

so that all the world is amazed

God ordained such a birth for him.)

  • Master pray with pity view

all the warmth of our affection.

    Lets our thanks,in love abounding,

In Thy gracious ears be sounding,

    Make us in abundance thrive,

    Never may the Friend contrive

    To reduce us to subjection.

  • @debartzen

Shoiuld read .."never may the Fiend contrive.."

  • According to my little booklet, BWV 61 was written in 1714, and BWV 62 in 1724. Based on same hymn.

  • Yes. Both set the same hymn. But BWV62 is not a mere reworking of BVW61. It's completely different setting. The opening chorale (BWV61) is in the style of a French overture (compare to the overture of orchestral suite #2 in b minor, BWV1067), and as I recall, the strings are in 5 parts instead of the usual 4. Very fine arias and recitatives, too. Maybe you can post it when you have a chance.

  • What church/cathedral is depicted in the photo you have placed on Youtube to accompany this cantata audio/ video.

  • Notre Dame in Montreal, someone told me

  • Compare with BWV 61, also based on same hymn.
