This is really happening, I have been privy to working with engineers, and researched this (they use a process called six sigma in these processes..it is a complex math formula in the bar coding and quality assurance industry,it has several methodologies,and from what I have seen the center of the formula has 3 consecutive sequences of numbers,this would be buried in the technology as there is software for that.
