  • I love that tune but knew it only sung by Frank Sinatra... who used to sing many of Bert Kaempfert's compositions.

    Beautiful! Many thanks!

  • This is a wonderful version of a old tune. Very nicely done. However, in the forte sections of the song, in all the versions I have heard, it sounds distorted. I know mpeg3 is not a super hi-fi medium, but was this song distorted from the get go? Generally, Bert's recordings are crisp, finely detailed and never distorted. Am I hearing something that's not there? Anyway, thanks for posting.

  • @2n918 Cannot be sure - I got this album second-hand. It might have been played with a worn stylus. As you say: Bert had the best studios and equipment at his disposal, so his recordings were generally A1 sound quality.

  • Bert Kaempfert like his compatriot James (and many other Europeans Paul Mauriat, Michel Legrand, John Barry...) conducted large orchestras and have arranged numerous then popular melodies to a more classical (or easy listening) style. All of them were classically trained and used some of Europe's best musicians. Their rendition of various hits were often used on mainstream movies soundtrack. Thank you for this great recording. I love the quality of these bands/orchestra.

  • Please gentlemen ..... let's not 'insult' Bert ! Like ALL of his other approx 399 original compositions this too IS a Bert Kaempfert "original". There is no classic composition that resembles this melody (at least to my knowledge). Both Frank Sinatra and Shirley Bassey recorded a vocal version of this song - their respective producers were very much aware of Bert's composing (and arranging) skills ! (I'm a little bit disappointed now Chuck :-) Musical greetings from a life long BK fan :)

  • Not well known?!! It seems I've been listening to this most of my life on easy listening FM radio. I recognized the melody instantly! I'm thinking he's ripped off a classical composer now that I think about it though. Hmmm. I'll have to consult an expert now since I'm too poorly schooled in the classics. Help me out Stu!
