When I watch this all I can think of is how brave these firefighters are to go & risk their lives to save another's property. I was in Warrnambool during the 2006 bushfires, living alone in a rented house, no friends nearby, no insurance. After midnight a report came in that a big fire was headed right toward us. I don't remember ever feeling so scared. All I could do was go in my room, close the door & pray. Then at about 3am the wind suddenly changed & the fire turned away. Thank God.
It was so touching to see people that were devestated by the Victorian fires come up here to help us in the Queensland floods....very special Australians and us Queenslanders love ya's...

@roarkflamez Gday CAF. We dont have mandatory e-vacs here. The reasons are complicated, but IMHO heres why. Our road system is probably not as efficient as yours, in many cases there is nowhere to go at very short notice, the recommendations now are to evac on code red days even before there is a fire.
Also this fire is UNPRECENTED.In recent years(30yrs) there have been fires nearly as bad as this about 5 times but the last time something comparable happened was in the 1930s.
@roarkflamez Once the royal commission is complete there will be all kinds of recommendations for changes in procedures, if anyone takes any notice remains to be seen. No, civies are not trained to defend their homes,there is all to advice in the world available but as you can see by the way some people are dressed in this vid not everyone listens.Cheers

A lot of people, or civilians as you said, may not be trained formally but have experienced so many fires (it's anything but uncommon here) they stay.. mainly famers, land owners who have lived amongst the bush for most of their lives and would rather try to protect their property than be evacuated. Evidently that's not always the case, though. A lot of people wouldn't obey a mandatory e-vac, too.

Interesting thing about summer in Victoria 2008/2009, it was below average temperatures for the 3 months of summer, only 10 days over 35 and 5 days over 40.

It seems that there's a lot of emotion being stirred up by these fires. From my point of view we look for the root cause of these fires, then enact a reasonable and logical solution. Our main stream media aren't helping. From my observations too much talk is about arson, the true cause is enviromental policy which prevents burn-offs in winter. As a result 9 times the amount of fuel is present than would normally be present. It's time to hold our government to account for this atrocity!

Interesting thing about summer in Victoria 2008/2009, it was below average temperatures for the 3 months of summer, only 10 days over 35 and 5 days over 40.

It seems that there's a lot of emotion being stirred up by these fires. From my point of view we look for the root cause of these fires, then enact a reasonable and logical solution. Our main stream media aren't helping. From my observations too much talk is about arson, the true cause is enviromental policy which prevents burn-offs in winter. As a result 9 times the amount of fuel is present than would normally be present. It's time to hold our government to account for this atrocity!

dont know where you have obtained your information from, no one has mentioned anything about terrorists or Islam or what nationality the arsonists are. My god have no mercy on your sole for saying these cruel words. If we are lazy doll people what do you say about the muslim people who have 8-9 kids and sit on welfare you are not better then anyone else i think you shouldnt speak anymore. It's hard to believe "people" like the commentator below are laughing at and racistly insulting people over this disaster. "Stay and get burnt", huh? Um, this was an incredibly massive, rapidly spreading fire, which means that people get surrounded, taken by surprise, and can't escape in time. I lived in brushfire country in So Cal. and once had to evacuate-these things happen fast and furious and you're at the whim of the winds. I really feel for those who lost loved ones and homes.

I'm from California and know all too well the destruction wildfires can cause. My hopes and prayers go out to all those affected. I'm curious- I haven't heard much about America's response as far as aid goes. Is my government playing an adequate role? Also, pay no attention to mcfeast11. He or she has no life and thrives on the attention. Ignore it.
