  • Is that a stock exhaust that you cut off? Perhaps I shall do that with my '85

  • Hey I have an 84 xr250 and there is a bent valve in it and I can't seem to find a replacement any help?

  • the bike is not that loud now.

the reason for the sonud was there were no gaskets betwen the engine block and the begining of the pipe.

    thru that,sound leaked out :)

  • year??

  • @cristiseven7 i have a 1985, love my bike

  • Folks, I just bought an XR250 -89, the valves were tapping a tiny bit when I got it, seller mentioned it too, approx 2 hours later the bike just cut out suddenly, instantly, no compression and wont start of course, something broke down on me? Seller sounded trustful afterwards that it cant be anything serious, more like the handle that turns off/decompress the engine is doing something. When I tried "bump start" and engines spinning a little, the valve tapping sounded stronger! Thx for help!!!

  • @ollecarlsson Try removing the valve cover caps and check clearance between the tappet screws and the sub rockers with a feeler gauge. I can't remember off the top of my head exactly what the exact clearance should be though. .003 intake .002 exhaust. or maybe it's the opposite? But it sounds like you have too much valve clearance

  • @DrEvil1410 one exhaust valve was bent, painting the whole bike right now, black, with tear down the engine soon an order parts, removing and putting back the cam chain seems to be a bitch... i upload a video soon! cheers!

  • @ollecarlsson If you're going to paint the bike you're not gonna want to paint the gas tank. It will start to bubble up within two weeks no matter how well you sand and prime it. Trust me on this! The fuel vapors actually permeate through the tank walls. Good luck on your project!

  • @DrEvil1410 Yeah Ive read alot about that and I tried to dye the tank in boiling water, as a few have manage to to on newer tanks, didnt work for me, so I thought that the plastic is hard enough to let the paint stay on the tank, we´ll see, I guess I need to cover it in some black top layer plastic or something later on... another story : )

  • @ollecarlsson Idon't know if you know this but in order to put the cam chain on set the motor at tdc make sure cam lobes face down, and have the cam thru the center of sprocket unbolted. Slip chain over sprocket making sure to align horizontal line on cam with top of head. Put in top bolt, turn engine over and put in other bolt.

  • @DrEvil1410 Thanks for the posts!! Well appreciated, yeah the timing seems deadly important unless you wanna bend all the valves on a first kick : ) ....but Im thinking, do I really need to remove cylinder top to replace right exhaust valve? How is the valve and its valve seat mounted? When I looked I could not see how to remove the valve seat or whatever you call it that holds the valve?

  • @ollecarlsson You will have to remove the head and use a valve spring compressor to compress the spring then remove the clip at the tip of the valve then just simply slip it out thru the bottom of the head. I would suggest removing the head taking it to a shop that can do this for you! shop manuals are also available on ebay for about $30

  • @ollecarlsson oversize gas tanks are available from clarke in black if you want to go that route. But painting will never work, I painted the tank on my '85 and I regret it!

  • @DrEvil1410 a layer of lamination epoxy is hardened right now and about to sand it even, then a couple of layers of black spray, then throw in some gas and i will prove you wrong : ) just ordered the valve now, late next week i will be on the streets, i show you : PP

  • @ollecarlsson never thought of that! I hope you do prove me wrong. lol!

  • @DrEvil1410 i bought all new black plastics for my cr500 from clarke, plastic tanks are poures ,not to the eye and obviously not enough for gas to leak but just slightly enough for fumes to escape within a couple days that paint is peeling off ,and if you dont want to go with an oversize tank check and see if they might list a regular tank for a newer year ,honda didnt really change much throughout many years ,i had to order a 98 cr500 tank for my 96 cr500 500s were the same besides color

  • @DrEvil1410 I had a bent valve, but then the clearance made a HUGE difference to the performance, check ma first video; watch?v=mzMXrLkRNQU
