  • Great humor and gameplay! Thanks for uploading this vid!

  • i think graphics wise this is pretty close to the arcade. I'd say even perfect.

  • Well Steve after seeing you play this game I think I need to go back and revisit this as well. Absolutely love the weird graphics in this one, a bit reminiscent of some of the old bio-organic Amiga sideways scrolling games...

  • I know if I ever see a pink slug monster, the first thing I'm reaching for is salt.

  • Steve, as always, great video! Thank you!

  • Ha HA hA!!!! You make me laugh Steve. LOL

Deffo would make a great film.

This is v different to the Arcade version & prob a lot better - The Arcade is pretty damn tough. Be cool if you could play as the bin monster - Just wait for folks to put a crisp packet in & AAAAAARRRRFGGghhh!!! Bite their 'ookin 'ead orf !!! ; )

  • My dad bought me the Japanese version of this for xmas 91 - and I loved it. Plus.. the Japanese box art is awesome.... The arcade version was made by the Golden Axe team, so it is sci-fi Golden Axe.... It's such a playable, crazy experience, with great graphics and sound. A classic game that has never received enough recognition.

  • Amuzing play through as always. You must have worked in some very interesting places and I wonder about your ex-girl friends :)

  • Great game have it for my Mega Drive. I loved hearing your reactions to this game.

  • It's Golden Axe but with Aliens!!.. I need this one for my collection!... Damn!!.. That's why I'm trying not to come on here!!!

  • for sure a fav of mine. Got all the way through as child

  • Used to play the master system version of this till the console somehow killed the cart. after that everytime id put it in all it would say is "SOFTWARE ERROR" in the middle of the screen

  • Its a underrated game i think the guy out of it looks kind of like Elvis Presley

  • Great game, great arcade conversion, with some extra non-arcade levels for good measure. I prefer playing the Robot myself. But, this game is really underatted on the Mega Genny. :D Kind of odd it never got a sequel when both Streets of Rage and Golden Axe got multiple game follow ups.

  • your awesome!

  • I liked the game a lot, though I was terrible at it. Something about blasting aliens never gets old.

  • good game

  • I quite like this game. Its not the best Megadrive game but it certainly isn't the worst. Nothing like cooking aliens with a flame-thrower. I like the weird variety of aliens in this game and the 1st person sections. Those sections kind of remind me of games like Operation Wolf and their ilk. I don't know if its me but this game does get really hard about half way through.

  • Great vid. I liked you're "gamers holiday survival kit" a while back. Any chance of a vid about you're netbook and the emulators on it?

  • I've seen this game many times now (didn't you do a SWILL of a different version?) but it's still pretty impressive, lots of different gameplay elements set it apart from other games. :)

I probably should've seen the: "I worked with people like that" part coming, being a long-term viewer of your videos lol. :P

Please do let us know if any evil ex-girlfriends get back to you as a result of this video won't you lol! :D

I was saddened by the abrupt end, though. :(

    Good SWILL nonetheless! :D

  • Go Mr Benway. Flamethrow the Tesco supermarket. You said they gave you a hernia.

  • Do you take requests, Steve? RoboCop Vs Terminator on the MegaDrive? :-D

  • @TZGremlin I did that one several years back. It's in my Mega Drive playlist :)

  • a game from my youth... but you are right it doesnt look quite right on here? But still looks as fun as always! ;o)

  • Nice roll you did there to get out of that pinch. Alien Storm doesn't get much attention but it's fun enough & has some of the best pixel art you can find on the Mega Drive, I love those flesh blobs. It is one of those times where you can say "inspired by John Carpenter" and actually mean it since they took the concept of morphing flesh and made their own designs of it instead of the direct lifting most game developers have done over the years. Great video I look forward to the Talkie. :)

  • Play the arcade version on MAME. It's like this game, but much better. Not a bad port though considering it's the Genesis.

  • is this on the Pal MD Mr Steve? you leg end oops sorry "legend" you , :-)

I liked your response to being told your a legend "nah ..I`m just a bloke"

  • I absolutely love this game! used to play it with my sister when i was younger and still enjoy it to this day, i always played as the silver robot with the laser whip.

absolutely fantastic game with lots of detail, some great animations and unlike lots of similar games it manages to stay interesting and enjoyable throughout

the psuedo first person moments and solid boss fights all add to fantastic gameplay and animation to make this a must have game in my opinion

  • I hope to buy this game soon! it is soo much fun!

  • I loved this game! Somehow i liked it a lot. The combination between fighting and shooting did it i guess.

  • Now I want to watch the Monty Python sketch about the killer blancmanges. And I also want to play this game. Gonna go do both!

  • Someone needs a larger SD Card

  • @TheSymbianFreak This one usually does the trick, but I'd shot several videos in one sitting :)

  • Rather amusing Review this time Steve. The game to me seems to be rather inspired by classic SciFi elements from the 50s and 60s. You may find that the "Attack of the Pink Blankmange" is "The Blob" from the late 50s/early 60s (with James Dean if I remember correctly...) or the remake that they did back in 1988. Worth checking out

  • @MintythecatIsABeast I love the original 50s "The Blob"... that's a classic :D

  • Guess you haven't heard of a movie series called Alien then Steve?

  • @wrestletube1 I mostly watch them at night.... mostly.

  • Loved this back in the day, it's one I still need to buy but it's bloody expensive. The music seems downpitched from the actual version, very emulator like.

  • This game was great. Shame to say the MS port sucked though. Played both on my Everdrive.

  • @wrestletube1 Oh god, agreed. I even did a video just to trash how badly it's aged!

  • Which clone system is this?

  • @neojake999gamer It's the ATGames Blaze. I'll be looking at it in the Friday Talkie this tomorrow.

  • LOL @ reminds me of an ex girl friend

  • @manspam1 your lucky mate my Gf just told she used to have testicles @_@

  • LOL! attack of the Demon Blamange! dammit Steve you made me spit out coffee all over my keyboard XD that was just too funny.

I've actually never even heard of this one never mind played it. Definitely looks interesting though, looks to me that it plays similar to Golden Axe/Alisia Dragoon but I couldn't say to be honest. Good Video man, I'm still learning things =)

    Dan.

  • Your ex-girlfriend is a hotty.

  • @28steryan You are a sick little puppy Ste :D

  • @SteveBenway It's been said before man.

  • This was one of the first Mega Drive games I played and I loved it too bits, definately enjoy this more than the arcade game.

  • A cross between Golden axe, Final fight and the Thing, nice one Steve.

Oh btw does that system have The Immortal on it?

  • @RiFFxxx Sadly, it doesn't have The Immortal. I remember playing that, back in the day.

  • This is a great game for multiplayer.

  • You never check your card or battery all that often, do you? :P XD

But hey, this game is indeed fucking fantastic. All that variety of gameplay, subtle but halerious humor and some of the most memorable monsters ANY video game has ever produced. Just one tiny little game breaking flaw that almost ruins playing it.... BOTH players get penalized when someone dies. RUBBISH! Other than that, it's a fantastic port that even differs from the arcade quite a bit!

    Thank you for reading!

  • @BlooditeDrakan I can check them? :O

Hehe... well, I do and don't. I'm usually aware that they're running low or filling up, but tend to figure they'll last. And then they don't.

I didn't know about both players being penalised. That's lame.

  • seems a bit repetitive, does it get boring?

    nice graphics though

  • @slenkar I didn't get bored in the time that I played it. I don't know if extended play would get tedious though.

  • I remember playing this for a bit on the Master System and being fairly underwhelmed... perhaps they lost a little bit of oompf in the conversion as this looks like fun.

I'm disappointed that this genre of game seemed to die out without ever evolving properly; I mean, I do know about the short lived fad of 3D roaming beat 'em ups, but they never really progressed past the same old repetitive game play with new shiny graphics stage... it's really begging for some RPG elements to give it substance

  • Thank you Steve. You just made it where I have to spend more money....because I have to get this game now! lol

  • @BigDaddyDarth Such a shame I'm not on commission ;)

  • This seems like the sort of acrade game I'd actually play. Looks awesome.

  • Camp aliens! =-D

  • If Alien Syndrome and Golden Axe would have kids, this would be it.
