They did hunt down German soldiers. SS and Gestapo hunted down any and all Germans who left their post. Later in the war Germans adopted same blocking units that Russians had and moved down everyone retreating.

@RattytheSecond actually its a pak 38 50mm gun, you can identify it by the curving of the metal protection shield. The shield of the pak40 looks different. see the view of the gun when it destroys the last tank (you see it from behind) and google photos of pak 38 and pak 40. look at the shield at 5.33 !

With the hafthohlladung you could blow the tank up, kill the man inside the vehicle. @EdgarEmigholz Technically, it looks more like a static defense, because the Russians were coming straight at them, and you don't normally set an ambush in the middle of where the enemy is expected to go. And another thing, a true ambush would only have opened up from all guns at point-blank range, where every single round is likely to kill something.

T-34s especially were quite resistant to Molotovs due to the disaster in Finland in 1939/40. In principle the scene is alright, in what we see its a joke, but its a movie so that is hardly surprising.

This is an amazing piece of film thanks for posting. So that at gun would have been a 37mm I suppose. I didn't realize that the Germans relied on shaped charges. Not easy to use.

@RattytheSecond actually its a pak 38 50mm gun, you can identify it by the curving of the metal protection shield. The shield of the pak40 looks different. see the view of the gun when it destroys the last tank (you see it from behind) and google photos of pak 38 and pak 40. look at the shield at 5.33 !

@Animemov13s The difference between these two is the damage caused to the tank and the crew, with the coctail you could set the tank on fire,smoke the crew out. With the hafthohlladung you could blow the tank up, kill the man inside the vehicle. Personally, if a T-34 would charge on me I would throw at it everything I've got in my hands without wondering if its cheap or effective:D

Yeah german film operators showed all their hate in this movie and made fun of USSR army, making clowns of them. T-34 would never be destroyed by molotov 2nd some strange tactics from USSR apeared in this movie, why tanks are moving in? they could stay out at the distence and support assault squads, by providing a perfect cover? HE rounds would do the job quick 76 mm guns, how could it be called a movie based on history? its some Hitlers dream not movie based on real facts

German veterans helped to make this movie , The sovjet infantry would be wiped out if they attacked from a distance, noticed the mg34? , so they had to use the tanks as cover to get close. @EdgarEmigholz Technically, it looks more like a static defense, because the Russians were coming straight at them, and you don't normally set an ambush in the middle of where the enemy is expected to go. And another thing, a true ambush would only have opened up from all guns at point-blank range, where every single round is likely to kill something.
But that's just a technicality. Great movie.

Most war movies are for crap. Good documents speak louder than movies...also interviews with veterans give you a better picture.....Even German Kriegstagbuecher that survived gets closer to the truth. Most movie producers are more interested in drama and political correctness than accuracy.

@crazyrahul97 Well, seeing that you're 13, you wouldn't understand the historical relevance of this movie. It's not "supporting" the Nazis, it's telling the story. This movie is not glorified, Nazi soldiers died too. You can't just change history to say the Allies are the ultimate, kill all Nazi force that won every war without causalities.

@ponti117 First ,the German soldiers are armed with antitank weapons. German soldiers were notorious tank killers , you had special tank hunting squads. A Tank cant use gun at that distance , and it needs HE rounds too. It's not shittiy its based on real tactics. On youtube there is a German WW2 tank hunting instruction movie made during the war, those tactics are used in this movie. A tank is very vulnerable against infantry. A tank isnt invincible , antitank infantry is a tank biggest fear

@EdgarEmigholz Molotov cocktails did not work like in the movie in real life, it wasn't just enough to throw it at the tank. T-34s especially were quite resistant to Molotovs due to the disaster in Finland in 1939/40. In principle the scene is alright, in what we see its a joke, but its a movie so that is hardly surprising.

Hahaha KV-1 and KV-2 had 90mm frontal armor (also rkka ru) and it was penetrated really often... King Tiger had only 100mm frontal armor, which was ALWAYS penetrated by any Soviet anti-tank gun 85+mm and also ANY IS-1,2,3,4,5,6,7 or 8 gun (also rkka ru - test section).
