  • never have points in a tunnel

  • @10FlyingScotsmans No sorry disagree, yes you can if planned in advance before building, by having removable scenic sections etc. What you have to bear in mind that some times you have to due to space constraints etc.

Had points (cross over) in a tunnel on a previous layout. Was built with easy access to the points. Never had any problems what so ever.

  • @ay76 Soz, I posted the comment before I saw the other tunnel. I thought it would be longer than that!

  • @10FlyingScotsmans No worries. But your quite right about having them in a tunnel with having some from of access to the points. Regards.

  • how did you wire your dc/dcc switch. - Thanks

  • @OldCrossRailway I'll send you the video, showing how. Cheers.

  • Is your layout in the loft?

  • @Hartsock91 yep.

  • @ay76 Did you do any modifications to your loft or did you just go up there and start building lol?

  • @Hartsock91 It had to be all re-insulated, then boarded out etc. Took around a year to do, as funds & time allowed.

  • awsome elite and layout i love your trains

  • Cheers.

  • hi can i ask you how you weather your tracks, iv seen outhers paint but surely that cant be rite as it would intifear with the current on tracks, ?? can you help, thanks in advance

  • @wattass7 On this layout, i'm a long way off doing that yet. But the others are indeed right. Rail match & the likes do paint for weathering the track. Can't remember the name, but i've seen at least one paint tool that's been designed to paint the sides of the rails. Check out Model Rail DVD series (amongst the many that's out there), in one of them they show how to weather the track. Make sure that the frog area's on points & tops of the rails are wiped clean straight after painting.

  • @wattass7 il give you a tip, get your hands on a cheap airbrush kit, buffers model railways where i work they have a website they sell them, and get a can of airbrush propellant and buy a tub of tamiya xf52 flat earth paint, spray the track with some of that it gives a brilliant weathered finish! let me know if you need any help

  • @infernodood3 Cool, many thanks for the tip. One i'll have to give a try. Many thanks on that. Regards.

  • one question. I'm new to this railway moddeling, what are those silver boxes with DIGITAL on the side for? sorry, im new to all of this :P

  • @JcnoProductions They are accessory / points decoders, by Hornby. Each one operates up to 4 points motors or 4 accessories. Cheers.

  • @ay76 ok, thanks mate

  • @JcnoProductions Have a look on Hornby's website DCC section for more info. Kind regards.

  • does soldering the power wire direct to the track make any diffrence

  • Yes. It makes the power connection much better & more reliable to the track. Cheers.

  • its good coming on here and asking people for advice

  • Yes very much so. Always some one some where on here that can help. Also a great way to see lots of great layouts, that other wise would never be seen :-) Cheers.

  • One of those things i guess. At prices like that, i can't see it being on the shop shelf for long.... Case of grab it while you can I think.Cheers.

  • what track do you use i use peco streamline but i keeep geting bumps

  • I'm using Peco streamline too. If there is any bumps, i try to pack the track up underneath. Cheers.

  • is every piece of track on your layout peco or are the points or some other parts hornby or something?

  • All points & most of the track is Peco. Only sections of Hornby track, are on some bits of the outer DC/DCC test track. Cheers.

  • what track is better as i got hornby track and peco bendy track and croves (big radius)

  • Depends really on what you like best. I use mainly Peco. Cheers.

  • @ay76 i just use a mix of both now

  • @itgamer100 Okay, cheers.

  • absolutely fantastic..im amazed keep it comming and i cant wait

  • Thank you, cheers.

  • That Bridge is beautiful man whered you get it?

  • im hopefullly going up in the modelling world for crimbo, ive asked for a hornby elite from olivias trains, its second hand mind but it aint be taken out of the box and is like new,it dont sound to bad for £70

  • Sounds a good bargain at that price, nice one.Cheers.

  • hi im intreasted on making a new layout in a scotish reagion but i want to make a mainline in dcc what locoes should i but thtas around modern times.thnx m8

  • Looks amazing! Those tunnel bits on the edge of the bridge gonna be good! Is it gonna be a kind of replica of Forth bridge lol?

Should get some scot rail stuff yourself!

    Good to see.

  • Yes, i like that Forth Bridge, Cool. As for the Scottish stuff in the fleet, 2 turbo star's, a 158, Fort Bill portion of the highland sleeper, Two 37's with large logo & Scottie dog, class 26, class 27, Highland line MK1's, Kyle line MK2's, that's what i recall off the top of my head, sure there's more. Need to check my data base & boxes. Cheers.

  • hi when are you next going to make another layout update?

  • Be a little while yet, as i've still got to do the next base boards.Hope to get cracking on them this weekend, if i get time. Cheers.

  • Hi Dean, hope you fine & well. Getting there slowly with it, next job is the base boards for the upper level. Cheers.

  • How long until your elevarted track is complete? I realy cant wait to see it!!!!

  • Hi dude it's monkeyfinger saying megga nancho's with a side salad to your proposed layout! ta ta. RELEASE THE KRACKEN!

  • RELEASE THE KRACKEN!!......Not after you've been on the old curry!! heh heh heh. Cheers ho chap, c u later.

  • could you please do a video on how to fit dcc in a dcc non ready loco when you have some time. and does the batchmann 21 pin decoder include sound what is the difference to a 8 pin???? great videos!!

  • I'm out of decoders at the moment, so will need to get some more. I'll look into doing a none DCC ready loco. Bachmann loco's that come with DCC Sound, as far as i know are 21pin. They don't sell sound decoders on their own at the moment. I think the 21 pin allows more functions over the 8 pin( will need to check up on that.) Bachmann do a converter plug which takes both 8 & 21 pin decoders. Cheers.

  • thanks for your great advise!!! :)

  • Thank you.More video's will be done in due course, as the layout progresses. Cheers.

  • Thank you, cheers.

  • hi, which size of points do you use?

  • I'm using the Peco electrofrog medium & large radius points. There is however two short radius Peco Electrofrog points as well. Cheers.

  • Hi ... Brilliant as usual... I have one question , what is underneath the tracks ... is it cork?

    thanks a lot

  • Hi hope your well. The stuff under the track is cork sheet underlay from hobbycraft. Many thanks & kind regards.

  • looking good mate, no progress made on my railway at all, hopefully with the winter nights i can get a bit done!

  • I wish mine was as big as your layout. looking forward to seeing how your layout progresses. How's the little one doing?? Kind regards. iain

  • wow! sounds good! Really cannot wait to see it all finished! Good to see the updates. Im on mine at the moment. Want to change it but dont really have the space to do anything drastic. Spent £50 on track a few days back but dont really have much to show for it! Keep the updates coming!

  • Hi mate, yes the track can really run away with the money. I'm going to need two double slips points( expensive!!) amongst a whole heap of other points needed. I'll keep the updates coming :-) Cheers.

  • It all makes sense now!

  • I've still a long way to go yet, but i'm slowly getting there with it.Cheers.

  • Looks good so far will be looking forward to seeing more updates when they come out.

  • Thank you, Cheers.

  • Looks good so far, I note you have still not got your Dynamis,?

  • Thank you my friend. Sticking with the Elite as i'm happy with it, & seems to cover what i need. How's your Dynamis, & what's your thoughts on it?? Any pros & cons with it at all? Does it work okay with the Hornby point decoders?? Kind regards, iain

  • Very happy with the dynamis only small problem is it does get dead spots on my big layout its a case of keeping the controller in sight of command station, but extra ones can be bought, I have scraped the hornby points decoder and using peco points motors with the stud and probe system, it`s quicker, more positive

  • Iain not sure if you got my comment, but yes happy with the dynamis just small problem with the odd dead spot on big layout, got to keep controller within sight of command station, or buy the extra command. I dont use the hornby points motors anymore found the peco better and use the stud and probe system, its more positive

  • Okay, many thanks for your thoughts. Kind Regards, iain.

  • Dynamis is ok (odd blind spot) not using on points motors gone on to stud and probe system, with peco motors (better) regards David

  • Okay, cheers.

  • going to be brilliant when it is finished

  • :-) cheers.

  • looking good!

  • Thank you, cheers.

  • Great video as usual keep the updates coming!!!!!! 5*'s

  • Thank you, not much to show on this one. I hope to show more on the next one. Cheers.

  • cool

  • Cheers.

  • 5* looking very good.

I have had a problem with locos stalling on a point wat leads into the second station but it is only some of my tank engines that do it all of my big engines are fine

  • Are you using the insulfrog type points??

  • yes

  • Cheers.

  • Well, can you tell me, how much is the "hill" going up per metre? I mean about the precentage of the hill, like: if you have after a metre of hill 4cm raised up, you have got 4%, which is 40 o/oo.

Sorry for thus "o"s, but I haven't got any other idea, how to mark promiles.

  • are you haveing the same problem as us our loft has got to temps of 46c whe are hopeing to get some done this week we still need to do 2 20ft lenths and a reverse loop module thing

  • Yea! Great video and update! Is that the Grand Central HST? Anyway, a lovely bit of scenery by the bridge! Well done, and good luck with the future works!

  • looks good... but a long way to go...

  • Thank you. yep, still along way to go, so should keep me out of mischief for some time to come yet.Kind regards.

  • looking forward to see how you do scenic stuff... it's always kool to see different people does it...)

  • :-) Looking at some different products i've not used before, so when the time come's to start on the scenic stuff will be a good learning curve for me.Cheers.

  • I enjoy your videos ay76. British rail is something different to me. It's interesting stuff. Thanks for sharring.--JohnLogan

  • Thank you. It good to see & compare model & the real thing from around the world. Kind regards, iain.
