OK, why do all the Architechture in Helsinki music video's have this cutesy aesthetic but have the dark undertones? In Heart it Races, they reenact the heart-removal scene from Apocolypto; in Do the Whirlwind, the band members get eaten by a robot shark, and in this video, two kids comit double suicide. And their cute dog is now left by himself in the middle of nowhere, with no one to care for him/her. WTF?

I don't think it was suicide. I think it was purely metophoric. The call was to that location. They jumped into it, as though being called. Note they didn't plummet, they floated slowly down. Also, the puppy yawned and lay down to rest, it the first time I saw it, I thought he was looking sad.

I think its a suicide. The dog doesnt yawn, it barks out then collapses in despair. All the happy stuff in the leadup is to exentuate the tragedy - the convertible, sunglasses etc all works to reveal how these misguided kids are in the prime of their lives. It is this narrative context which makes their suicides so much more shocking.

Also the floating fall, IMO, adds to the surreal otherwordly feel of their deaths; as though it shoudln't be happening. Again it adds to the tragedy.

That's the beauty of this video, you can easily make a case for what its about and not necessarily be wrong. It could be a metaphor, it could be a suicide, it could be something totally else. I love how they leave it to where you can draw your own conclusion to it.

I'm pretty sure it stresses the immaturity, yet, in some ways, logical nature of teenage suicide in relation to the inability to hold a relationship, save it go against for what is intended by any authority, in this case, the father (they snuck out so the father wouldn't see them). It seems like they just wanted to take what they felt and run with it, which is beautiful, yet impossible. So they off themselves to retain what they held sacred, together, throughout eternity.
