a lot of today`s talent need to learn from promos like this one right here, these guys truly believed in their characters and what they did with them the moment they did it they made it REAL!
I always wondered what Adnan was actually saying, probably something along the lines of 'I am deeply insulted by the character I have been asked to portray but I am actually Iraqi and actually went to school with Sadam Hussain so what the hell, I've got bills to pay. By the way, the gentleman with the large chin to my left has no idea what I'm saying'.
Sgt. Slaughter pissed eveybody off when became a heel. I remember when he use to beat jobbers until the medics took them away. I can remember a match where he beat this dudes ass so bad. When the doctor came out, Sgt Slaughter started to attack him!
Sarge had a rough time portraying this character; in real life he was refused service in restaurants and he needed security around him 24-7. The previous year, he was in the AWA feuding with "The Russian Brute", now he was the top dog in the WWF, but at a high cost. But all that is irrelevant to your boss if he thinks he can make a quick buck off of current events.
@MystikWizard Because today's promos are written by a rejected Hollywood scriptwriter who knows nothing about wrestling and read off a teleprompter by guys who have no idea how to get a character over. These guys lived the gimmick, Slaughter was a real Military guy, Ted Dibiase was driven everywhere by a limousine of Vince's dime and given a wad of bills to flash around. These guys knew how to get over.
I believe Adnans exact words translate to 'Hello my fellow Americans what a joyous day it is the birds are tweeting and I have been placed amongst Sgt Slaughter against my own free will I do not share his veiws infact Im not even an Arab Im scottish but Slaughter stole my kilt to wear on his head to hide the fact that hes going bald.'
You don't make a G.I.Joe a real american hero a heel that hates america. At the very least they could have made him a cobra. But make him a fucking iraqi that is fucking bullshit
I love this video! The sergeant was my hero! He looked so ready to pin that nitwit Warrior! If fact, he did pin "the puke." The sarge did not even have to cheat!
slaughters face is just priceless, he can really put on some nasty and hilarious faces man, great , i have the scene where he says "shut your whole puke" extracted and converted into mp3, it is on my mobile as message alert tone :D
Are you retarded? The manager is the Sheiky baby. There's no "General Adnan", dumbass, that is "Sheiky baby" repackaged as "General Adnan" so he can FUCK YOU IN DE ASS and MAKE YOU HUMBELL!!! FUCK HOA-Gan!!!
@drinklime so true, unfortunately some of them are so dumb they think this stuff is real and they base on their opinions on arabs and muslims on this fake shit
I am telling you thats what wrestling needs. Ether a new comer or avet that everyone loved to be either a afgan supporter, N.Korea supporter,orIran supporter. not a guy thats from these coutries but an American that supports one of these coubtries. Imagine Batista, assembling a stable of N.Korean supporters. People would pay to see him get beat. I am sure you guys reading this could come up with a better fit. Also who would be the main hero. Cena?
Loved that sergeant! He did all of us a big favor by relieving the puke of his belt.
Warrior, of course, could never job clean to anyone. I bet he was asked to put over many guys. However, he probably would insist of including "the element of cloak and dagger and then robbery" before he'd agree to job to someone. What an ego.
Warrior, and I hesitate to say "Ultimate," was the biggest sore loser when he got his shoulders pinned. His excuse concerning theft of his title became too much!
And defeat the puke did he! So well, too. Clean. Sure, Macho showed up to run a bit of interference, but that had nothing to do with "the sarj." For all we know, Warrior hired Macho to pretend he was feuding with him so as to delivery that smack to the head with that scepter. It gave the weakling Warrior an excuse to be pinned in the match he was losing so badly.
@fagbert, yes, but the sergeant did not cause that. Who would not have taken advantage of the interference? It made sense he would apply the pin on the nitwit Warrior.
Although not mentioned by the WWF people, Andre did pin the Warrior clean in Italy one time with a sit-down splash. Pinned clean, Warrior had no excuses.
Yes but you make it sound like he won clean against the "nitwit" Warrior, and I'm simply pointing out he didn't. I didn't say anything about Andre, either, we were talking about Slaughter.
What the hell are you talking about? Are you saying he insisted on a screwjob finish? If so, that's obviously false, because the whole point of Savage's interference was to set up their feud, which culminated at WMVII and even continued at SummerSlam '92 a year later.
Slaughter was indeed the perfect heel to beat the Warrior AT THAT TIME, because of the First Iraq War and the massive heat he was getting for playing a turncoat. It perfectly set up an epic WM main event.
I had never seen Sgt. Slaughter display so much self-confidence than here! He really did deserve a title shot. I was so glad watching him pin The Ultimate Nitwit for the belt!
When did he ever really wrestle? He had to depend so much on clotheslines and lifting guys over his head, dropping them, and then bouncing off the ropes several times before the finishing splash. I did not like the Warrior back then. He acted too much like a maniac. There was no other guy more annoying. That is why I wanted him pinned left and right.
Warrior was at his worst when he had to showboat, wasting time when he needed to go for a pin. That is why he deserved to lose this match.
Its official, Sgt Slaughter has the biggest chin I have ever seen in professional wrestling but Sgt Slaughter is still one of the greatest WWE champions.
Hey WrestlingFan, do you have the episode of Superstars, where they actually had a still shot of Saddam Hussein giving Slaughter and Adnan a pair of boots?
He said "I want my country back" after the end of the Persian Gulf War (1990-1991.)
He had to be a heel to get the belt, as it set up a feud with Hulk Hogan.
Ironically as a kid in 1984 I thought it was Slaughter who would fight the Iron Shiek for the belt but it was Hogan who beat the Iron Sheik for it instead.
Yeah, Hogan didn't want to work with anyone who would scoop his cheers, so they turned Sarge evil. Even after he won the title from him, they feuded at PPVs and House Shows till Slaughter begged fans to forgive him and vowed to get his country back.
The Ultimate Nitwit just had to be a total showoff. It is his own fault that Slaughter pinned him. In that sense, the Ultimate Cheeseburger pinned himself.
This was the beginning of the end for the Warrior. Did Vince "write him off?" After getting pinned by the sergeant, Warrior just was not very ultimate any longer. He just seemed more like the Ultimate Idiot with the stupid storylines he got. What was all that junk about Jake the Snake trying to prepare him for a feud with the Undertaker? What qualified him to do so? That was dumb. Did Warrior really believe that the Snake man cared about him for one second? How silly was that? Please.
Sgt. Slaughter was one of the best champions ever! Definitely one of my heroes. The Ultimate Puke made the mistake of wasting so much precious energy at the beginning of this match. What a dumb move! Slaughter took a long time to warm up. He was then ready to put up a grueling fight. At that point, the Ultimate Warrior was too tired to mount much of an offense.
Warrior, as impressive as he was, had no strategy. Basically, he pinned himself and gave away his belt to the sergeant!
The more I watch this, the more I love it. I was glad that "the Sarj" pinned the Warrior and made it look so easy. Warrior didnt look very ultimate at that point. Andre the Giant was truly MUCH more of an ultimate warrior. Still, I would have much preferred a clean pin. It doesn't mean I didn't like Warrior. It's just that a champ who never loses cannot appreciate the belt unless it has been very hard to get it and to keep it. Otherwise, where is the challenge in easy victories?
I absolutely love it! Sgt. Slaughter was my hero! He pinned just about everyone! I remember him pinning both Bushwhackers in the same event with the greatest of ease. It was so funny to watch him do it. In this video he looks so prepared to pin the Ultimate Warrior. Perhaps General Adnan inspired him with confidence.
The Sarj really means business at 0:28-0:33. It eventually took Hogan to beat him. However, Slaughter bloodied him before it could be done.
Excellent point, RoderickStrong. You have made good observations. Many wrestlers were not technicians like "The Hit Man" or the late "Mr. Perfect," may he rest in peace. They are classic legends.
The Ultimate Warrior wasn't exactly very ultimate. He wasted too much energy trying to overpower Slaughter so soon. It mattered little in the end being that he got PINNED! I actually laughed when he lost. How could he be so stupid by allowing Macho King and Queen Sherri to distract him?
He actually could speak good English, because he did when he was in AWA. My friend is Islamic (not Arabic) and he told me that all he said were a few Islamic prayers, LOL.
Well, English sub-titles would have helped... Yet, if this was recorded live, then that would not have been an option. Still, many of us didn't speak the general's language.
Like many villians, the sergeant came to the ring with someone at his side. That is always bad news for the hero. The Warrior, in foolish fashion, tries to do it all alone. By wasting time and energy with the Macho King and Queen Sherri, he leaves himself wide open for defeat. When Slaughter pinned him, I loved it.
Excellent point! I overlooked that entirely and die laughing just thinking about it! All that matters still is that Sgt. Slaughter did pin the Warrior. What annoys me is that the Warrior could never lose "in clean fashion." It seems there always had to be something fishy about how his shoulders were forced to the mat for the three-count. This gave him the constant option of saying he was cheated in the match in question. I did hear that the late legend Andre the Giant pinned him "clean."
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Got that right, Sgt. Slaughter as an Iraqi Sympathizer was the worse heel gimmick ever. In my opinion, it is in the same category as Hulk Hogan turning heel in July 1996 and forming the New World Order (nWo). I would not mind make Sgt. Slaugher a heel, but I'd make him like those Kurt Angle type heels. In other words, although Sgt. Slaughter would a heel in the storylines, he would still love and adore Old Glory USA.
Rooblakas, I agree with you. I prefer the bad guys, anyway. (If they don't trash-talk the U.S.A., then I can accept patriotic heels.) Slaughter was my hero at first but got annoying with his flag-burning antics.
Kurt Angle was a villain but always backed up his "evil talk." His first match with John Cena is a good example. Kurt was mean and the two wrestled well. However, Kurt pinned Cena... clean. He was still enough of a heel to not accept Cena's offer for a handshake. How classic.
Although General Adnan maybe a terrorist but he sold that gimmick really well and he should be in the hall of fame !!!!

Why couldn't Warrior just get pinned "clean?"
His defeats had to look fishy.

Why Sarge? WHY?!

Basically, he pinned himself and gave away his belt to the sergeant!
sandinyourshoes 3 years ago
No doubt. Wrestling is real and UW should have prepared a better strategy.
bradvolk3 3 years ago
That was funny. However, on a serious note, the tragedy lies in the fact that too many wrestlers have died young.
Rick Rude. R.I.P. Mr. Perfect. R.I.P. The mighty Hercules. R.I.P. The list just goes on.

Slaughter reminds me of my old history teacher...she used to threaten us almost the same way...extended words of hate and threatening wisdom . =D

Otherwise, where is the challenge in easy victories?
sandinyourshoes 3 years ago
I absolutely love it! Sgt. Slaughter was my hero! He pinned just about everyone! I remember him pinning both Bushwhackers in the same event with the greatest of ease. It was so funny to watch him do it. In this video he looks so prepared to pin the Ultimate Warrior. Perhaps General Adnan inspired him with confidence.
The Sarj really means business at 0:28-0:33. It eventually took Hogan to beat him. However, Slaughter bloodied him before it could be done.
A classic WWF moment!

Sgt Slaughter - remember the camel clutch hold he put on his opponents?
He was an awful wrestler though lets be honest!
VT82236427 3 years ago
True, but he was no more of an awful wrestler than the man he beat for the title, the man he affectionately called "The Ultimate Puke"
RoderickStrong 3 years ago
Excellent point, RoderickStrong. You have made good observations. Many wrestlers were not technicians like "The Hit Man" or the late "Mr. Perfect," may he rest in peace. They are classic legends.
The Ultimate Warrior wasn't exactly very ultimate. He wasted too much energy trying to overpower Slaughter so soon. It mattered little in the end being that he got PINNED! I actually laughed when he lost. How could he be so stupid by allowing Macho King and Queen Sherri to distract him?

Speak English U Sick Iraqi Puke Gen. Adnan!! Ten Hut! haha lol

Good point. I didn't know what the hell that fool was saying, either.
sandinyourshoes 3 years ago
He actually could speak good English, because he did when he was in AWA. My friend is Islamic (not Arabic) and he told me that all he said were a few Islamic prayers, LOL.
RoderickStrong 3 years ago
Well, English sub-titles would have helped... Yet, if this was recorded live, then that would not have been an option. Still, many of us didn't speak the general's language.
Like many villians, the sergeant came to the ring with someone at his side. That is always bad news for the hero. The Warrior, in foolish fashion, tries to do it all alone. By wasting time and energy with the Macho King and Queen Sherri, he leaves himself wide open for defeat. When Slaughter pinned him, I loved it.
sandinyourshoes 3 years ago
I doubt that even Slaughter knew what he was saying, LOL
RoderickStrong 3 years ago
Excellent point! I overlooked that entirely and die laughing just thinking about it! All that matters still is that Sgt. Slaughter did pin the Warrior. What annoys me is that the Warrior could never lose "in clean fashion." It seems there always had to be something fishy about how his shoulders were forced to the mat for the three-count. This gave him the constant option of saying he was cheated in the match in question. I did hear that the late legend Andre the Giant pinned him "clean."

what was slaughters obsession with calling everyone puke he called the interviewer puke and the ultimate warrior the ultimate puke?

Got that right, Sgt. Slaughter as an Iraqi Sympathizer was the worse heel gimmick ever. In my opinion, it is in the same category as Hulk Hogan turning heel in July 1996 and forming the New World Order (nWo). I would not mind make Sgt. Slaugher a heel, but I'd make him like those Kurt Angle type heels. In other words, although Sgt. Slaughter would a heel in the storylines, he would still love and adore Old Glory USA.
Rooblakas 4 years ago
Rooblakas, I agree with you. I prefer the bad guys, anyway. (If they don't trash-talk the U.S.A., then I can accept patriotic heels.) Slaughter was my hero at first but got annoying with his flag-burning antics.
Kurt Angle was a villain but always backed up his "evil talk." His first match with John Cena is a good example. Kurt was mean and the two wrestled well. However, Kurt pinned Cena... clean. He was still enough of a heel to not accept Cena's offer for a handshake. How classic.
