I was going on 10 when this song came out back in 1987. Today, I feel that this song is still great and very energetic!!! It's too bad that we don't hear this song being played on the radio very often these days. No radio station plays this song where I live. GREAT SONG!!! #1!

@landrykkb It was almost non-existent to its own generation, too. A #36 hit doesn't usually denote a notable chart hit, or a song that stands the test of time, though there are exceptions, such as "Tiny Dancer", which surprisingly only hit #41 upon its release in 1972.

Reg's voice changed a bit from '87 to where he had more performances in '88. It is a damn shame too many years of over singing, coke, pot, and scotch caused vocal nodules leading to the operation thus forever altering his once clean, vibrant, powerful voice.

Loved it THEN, love it NOW. Holds up well, unlike lots of late 80's pop. I too was perplexed that this wasn't a bigger hit on radio in '87. Elton had gotten his career back on track a few years earlier, and this was a great introduction to Jennifer Rush for lots of Americans, but perhaps the dominance of hairbands & heavy metal in '87 was just too much. Still, a great pop duet!

I remember seeing this on MTV and then rushing out to find the 12" vinyl (!) single of it. The song on the B side, "Call My Name" is nothing less than awesome. It's a shame that Ms. Jennifer never caught on here in the States. Thanks for posting the video, alwaysej!

I was always surprised and disappointed this song wasn't more successful commercially. It's a rock-solid tune, it has Elton at the peak of his powers and Jennifer Rush simply sets the song ON FIRE! (No pun intended). SUPERB!

It probably wasn't so big because Jennifer Rush was better known for making other singers sound good. I knew she was a songwriter (she wrote for Laura Branigan); I didn't know she was a singer, too, until I heard this song in a promo tape back in 1987.

Charts are never reliable, depends on which ones you look at. It was nr 1 looking at the charts published in West German popmagazine Bravo at the time.

just to get your facts right...in 1987 there were only three charts published in bravo magazine: the official western german charts, dance charts and bravo readers charts. this song peaked at nr. 8 in the official sales charts and it neither topped the dance charts nor the readers charts. there was no chance against madonna, whitney, aha, pet shop boys or mel and kim during that time.
