if your looking to scan a barcode, you should try to just put the barcode in the camera, you dont need any of the text or logos next to it.

Hmm... Anyone know of an App that lets you take pictures and it translates the text because Google Goggles is pretty stupid all it does is check the internet for related stuff. It don't translate the text like the Google Translator does. I have no clue how you type in Chinese so lol. I rather take a picture of a chinese image and see if it can translate it.

Google says to "Fill as much of the screen as possible, which you are not doing. Also, try zooming in to ONLY the bar code, and nothing else.

With the Dell logo, it identified it as a logo for Dell and pointed to their website for the logo. Not sure what else you would have wanted the app to reveal beyond it being a logo and identifying the logo owner and website. I think you just missed that it saw it as a logo.

There are several comments asking Why? What purpose does it serve?

if you travel for work or pleasure, and you come across a building, statue, piece of art, etc. you can take a picture of it, and find out what it is and very likely will be linked to the wiki to learn about the history, artist, etc.

Furthermore, it is pretty great for logo/brand recognition. If you have a product in front of you, and don't know who makes it, take a picture and learn more about it!

I think this demo is SEVERELY flawed... As you were going through the instructions, I could see very clearly that they say goggles is intended for objects not text -- yet virtually every example you have chosen -- except the headset -- is a combination of both words a visual object and/or a bar code. You never even followed any of the links returned by the plantronics bar code to see if it were the correct product or not!

For instant product reviews and price comparison i'd suggest looking at an APP designed for that purpose, like ShopSavvy. It scans the barcode and finds local/web price comparisons. I've used it in Best Buy to get price matches on Blu-Rays a few times already.

You have way too high of expectations for this. I would say it works pretty well especially since it had to scan a lot of things since you didn't exactly get the items in the frame correctly. It picked up on the bar code and it was only taking up maybe 15% of the screen. It has to scan 85% of other junk that you didn't want. I'm sure they will make improvements but regardless it's pretty awesome and I think you expect too much from phones.

For the record, filling the frame with the shoebox bar code makes 0 difference. I've tested this app with dozens of items, and the only ones that worked at all were included in the video.
