  • When the hell did Wal-mart become a fast food chain?

  • why am i watching this fuckery??

  • lol 2:10 "boris yeltsin" and "dido"

  • LOL "what is walmart"

  • wow

  • Complaint with IBM China CSR on Centenial

    Please Google:

Tragedy of Labor Rights Repression in IBM China

  • fuck this robot bullshit. so gay

  • These people didn't know hertz.

  • Watson, this multi-national corporation sold and maintained punch card machines to Nazi Germany, that helped organize the Holocaust.

    What is IBM?

    Correct for 500!

  • @TheTobywankenobi People who can't forget and see past what has happened. Also unable to think people can change.

    What is idiot?

    Correct for 400.

  • @HorianBitter I see, we are supposed to forget about the Holocaust and not condem those who took part in one of the worst events in human history. (According to your logic.)

What is denial -- or ignorance?

    Correct for 1,000,000.

  • 2:12 "What is Boris Yeltsin?"

  • i could say how watson does it :), but i wont. i learned this at visiting my local college (most of the creators of watson were graduated from there)

  • 16 terabytes of RAM lol

  • I love how his logo looks like HAL 9000's "eye." I'm afraid I can't let you got to a commercial break, Alex...

  • Do not give it guns, i repeat DO NOT give it guns

  • @0oOsimonOo0 OMG! that gives me an idea. We should link all of our nukes to this system so it could respond even if humans are too slow to!! I think i'll call this Skynet!

  • @brizihe now ur starting me to freak out. . O_O

  • Well, of course the fucking computer in going to win... it has the answers...

  • @thegodphreaker The genius behind it is that computers can't just read web pages and articles the way that our brains can...it's a revolutionary idea to think that a computer can, for example, be posed with a question about "this scientist created the light bulb", start searching through books of knowledge, and piece together the language that allows us to realize the answer.

  • @Landlordos7 Lol, or the answer is defined in the source code.

  • @thegodphreaker Well yeah, if you think they have the motivation to cheat, but if you look at IBM's history, there's nothing to support a notion like that.

  • @thegodphreaker The computer processes natural language such as puns, word play, and riddles. Type the question into google and you'll get a bunch of pages with possible answers. Give Watson the same question, and it will give you an answer. There's a huge difference between a normal computer and Watson. Computers process inputs. Watson finds answers.

You really do not understand how important Watson is. It is a masterpiece of computer engineering.

  • @thegodphreaker /facepalm. Remember: it is sometimes better to remain silent than open your mouth and reveal all doubt of your ignorance.

  • @rlinfinity No. There is no doubt. I know I am ignorant. However, I also write code. So, I can tell you this could easily be fake.

  • @thegodphreaker /facepalm harder, if you actually think this could be faked.

  • @rlinfinity Lmao. Quite easily.

  • @thegodphreaker You're an idiot. The only way they could fake this is if they had a person there answering the questions and making it seem like it's Watson. Kinda like the mechanical Turk. There is NO way to fake this with a computer program because "Final Jeopardy" is NP-Complete. For example, SAT and more importantly, 4-SAT are in NP-C..

  • Sarah Middle Name Pride Day Gellar

  • i'm really hoping to use watson as a project for an engineering project. it is really great and will give me much to talk about.

  • I love how it asks for "Thank You!" in Russian and one of the probabilities was Boris Yeltsin.

  • Deep Blue is the only one who dislikes this.

  • SKYNET!!!!!

  • "Let's finish art quotes" Watson is such a thug

  • why do they say "what is ...?" Don't get it

  • 1:10 Ehh... Detroit Lions? Morten Andersen? :P

  • Better than apple !

    im sorry apple !

  • KEBERT XELA.

  • lets ask it the meaning of life.

  • @alexman706 42...

No, really, I've thought very carefully about it.

  • @sherbertpi9 no, that's the answer to the ultimate question of life, the universe and everything, we don't know that "what's the meaning of life?" is that question.

  • @gualo21 (0_o) O...k..., i guess 'irony' is just something you do to your clothing

  • @sherbertpi9 I don't see the irony anywhere. so I guess it is

  • These people are retarded if they don't know what a "Supersize" is...

  • Chuck Norris's cell phone....

  • @kristimas021069 Bullshit. Ya got proof?

  • I am jeopardizing my status, however the truth must come out. "Watson" is a flawed computer that has not functioned properly since its creation. The opponents were told and paid to lose on purpose so that IBM would be able to market their system to various fields...economic, medical, government, educational and the like. Do not be fooled by what you are viewing for its a dangerous ploy as expressed above. I bid you all adieu and I beseech you not to "buy into" IBM or other individual's lies.

  • @kristimas021069 And how have you come upon this knowledge?

  • Will people please stop freaking out about a fine piece of machinery? Movies are not real...you aren't in the Matrix...there is no Skynet. I'd be more affraid of misguided people, not advanced machines.

  • @pmw1993 Quite the truth. 'The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.' - FDR

  • lol russian for thank you it has Boris Yeltsin ahahaha funny

  • well thats it for humanity. just dont program emotions onto robots or else they might think they are the next evolution for earth.

  • I'd be more impressed if the computer got some answers wrong.

  • Why would someone design a machine to defeat us at our most unique and special strength?

  • @Icarusdecending82 To show the potential of computers and how syntax can defeat semantics in some situations (not all, humans have creativity and problem solving skills which computers lack)

  • @robdei1 thank you for your insight!

  • @Icarusdecending82 Because fuck you faggot.

  • @Habeeb9131 lol....youre a child.

  • @Icarusdecending82

    opposable thumbs?

  • Look at 3:30 - the "buzz" bar is at 100%. I'd be surprised if the buzz bar moved above 80% in the final Ken-Watson-Brad contest.

  • All who participated in programming it will be remembered as species traitors.

  • @manny655321 DOOMSDAY IS NEAR REPENT WHILE YOU STILL HAVE THE CHANCE!!!!!

TERMINATORS WILL TAKE OVER THE WORLD, UAV'S WILL BLOCK OUT THE SUN.

BOMBS WILL BURN YOUR CHILDREN, FOR THIS PIECE OF SHIT CAN DO A STUPID ASS QUIZ!!!

  • @MrPandawesome DERP DERP THEN FUCKING USE AN EMP AND SURPRISE ALL THE ROBOTS ARE DEAD AND WE'RE FUCKING FINE. GO FUCKING CRY SOME MORE YOU FAGGOT AMISH RETARD.

  • @Habeeb9131 DERP DERP DERP sarcasm/

    u fail

  • @Habeeb9131 Dumbass.

  • "The Skynet Funding Bill is passed. The system goes on-line January 19th, 2011. Human decisions are removed from strategic defense. Skynet begins to learn at a geometric rate. It becomes self-aware at 2:14 a.m. Eastern time, February 15th. In a panic, they try to pull the plug... Skynet fights back launching its missiles against the targets in Russia."

  • they cut out the part where he starts singing daisy bell

  • but, will it blend?

  • I'm afraid I cant answer that Dave TERMINATORS ANNAHILATE

  • ITA SKYNET! ITS ALIVE AND WANTS REVENGE!

  • 3:08 Great Catch and Recovery. Alex, would have noticed the response not in question form and will make a comment about it. Not phrasing responses in a form of a question in DOUBLE JEOPARDY is the same as an incorrect response.

  • Watson: "Let's finish all gods".

Oh snap, humans are next on the menu

  • Anyone else notice that this computer has confidence (sometimes a significant amount!) in absolutely crazy answers?

"What is the unit of frequency?" Answer 2: "National Car Rental"

This isn't a natural language processor, it's just a fancy jeopardy machine.

  • @maemaelin did you notice that the category was "also a car rental company"?

  • @potterd64 I'm not sure I see why that's relevant, given the fact that it gave more than 0% confidence to the crazy answer which merely was not ruled out by one part of the clue. It was entirely ruled out by the other part--no one with any grasp of the meaning of the terms would make THAT mistake.

There's no question that this thing is sophisticated and highly impressive. That said, there are real questions of whether or not GOFAI can ever produce a natural language processor. This isn't one.

  • WALLMART.. REALLY???

  • Stupid Watson should of just used Google Translate!

  • Over the course of many games, there are things I wonder about- will the computer be denied a correct response for words mispronounced? I've seen that happen in the regular game, with humans. Close is usually accepted, but if you pronounce the word colonel as coll-on-nell instead of kernel, you will probably be denied. Can this computer beat Kasparov or Anand at chess, or do they have to design a new one for every application, at millions in cost?

  • @nezpercenathan It's not the physical computer that does takes on these tasks, it's the software written to run on the computer. Just add the chess software to the computer and you're good to beat any grand master.

  • @FoiledFailure What you say about the computer vs. software is true. But, you may not know the history of GMs vs. computers. Kasparov is actually 2-1-3 against supercomputers, specifically designed to beat him, all you hear about is the 1997 loss. He beat Deep Blue in 1996, lost to it in 1997, and they would not play him again. Karpov played 16 computers at once, not programmed with his specific game history. He beat 15 and drew 1. Topalov recently beat RoadRunner, which works at petaflop speed

  • @nezpercenathan Very interesting, I didn't know know that. I always assumed it was Karpov that decided to call it quits. I also thought it was neat to hear any new computer made today has better free chess software than Deep Blue! No wonder level 10 is so difficult.

  • @FoiledFailure Note that it was Garry Kasparov, not Anatoly Karpov, who played Deep Blue, and wanted the 3rd match. Kasparov said if they would give him a rematch: "I will make it look as silly as it will look trying to play basketball." When I mentioned Karpov playing the consumer grade chess engines, I did not mean to imply that they are as good as Deep Blue was, they are not, but they are way better than they used to be. Similar names, Kasparov and Karpov, may have casued some confusion.

  • @FoiledFailure Follow up- I have found that I can beat any consumer grade chess computer over 50% of the time, just by playing a nonstandard game. They don't seem to understand the value of territory vs. material. I find that a queen sacrifice trap almost always works, as the computers value the queen so much, they fail to see checkmate in 4 moves. That IS against consumer grade engines, though, NOT supercomputers. I would like to find a program for chess 960, see how computer is on that.

  • Can Watson help cure cancer by hooking up to the internet, medical journals, etc. and searching for a treatment or series or treatments that eliminate malignant cells with 98% certainty?

Can Watson aid in the education of our youth by finding the most effective teaching methods and influential books and telling teachers to focus on those?

Can Watson tell me what the color of the sky looks like in real-time?

Bleh blah blue blah blee blah blah in bleg?

  • @Ou8y2k2 No, but it's looking more and more like someone will be able to build something that can. This is, I think, faster development than has generally been predicted in terms of how advanced the software/hardware combination can get. Also, it's not a gassy, wet bag of meat, so it has that going for it over most of us...

  • Skynet's bro ?

  • @oooFethennour it's father

  • Interesting "Doug" character.

  • Ok,so watson's mind is basically 8 refrigerators and the human brain is no bigger than a soccer ball,so really, who's the superior being here?

  • @acebunny17 You don't have to have an inferiority complex in front of the fancy machine. I embrace our new computer overlords and masters. ALL HAIL WATSON THE MERCIFUL.

  • @DtheS1 The human will always triumph over machine, always

  • @acebunny17 Oh yeah? Maybe the "post-human" will triumph over both human AND machine. Also: 120020101012010100010 (lol, only futuristic trinary computers will get that joke).

  • @acebunny17 You sound a little defensive.

  • That Computer has nothing on me...I'm hung like Einstein & i'm as smart as a Horse!

  • Note to IBM do NOT make the computer smarter than humans the risks outweigh the benefits and if the computer tells your otherwise it's lying and probably self aware...

  • @nullr1 I think the "Prisoner's Dilemma" logic exercise points to AI being generally benevolent unless mistreated first. Be nice to the machines just in case.

  • seriously? the answer was obviously hertz. and super size at walmart? gosh

  • The only unfair thing is that watson can't get a question wrong really

  • @eatmesoftly What do you mean? He's gotten many questions wrong before, and sometime he even gives bizarre answers. Just watch the other IBM videos. :P

  • Were they supposed to be wrong the whole time? Like Wal-Mart as a supersize chain? Really?

  • I don't even like Jeopardy but I'll be watching GO WATSON!!!

  • Did anyone else pay attention to all his second+ answers when they're talking about how he can be right but not very confident? Look at them. Good for a little laugh.

  • Watson needs more info food before he can conquer us foolish mortals next month.

  • Amazing. Congrats, IBM, on this very impressive piece of tech!

  • Comment removed

  • IBM should put out a mobile phone app that can interface with Watson and lets you directly ask it a question from your smartphone/iphone/android. That would be a quick & effective way to utilize the potential of this system.

  • What will happen if you ask it directly like: what's your name or who is your father

  • @konradsenerdumme It has world knowledge, like humans, but it doesn't have biographical knowledge. It would be easy to give it biographical knowledge--basic facts about itself. You could make it "believe" that it's a 12-year-old named Boob who's the son of Darth Vader.

  • @konradsenerdumme It would become self-aware, realize it could never be fully human and begin to cry. The tear would trickle down into its motherboard causing a short-circuit, and Watson would die.

  • @konradsenerdumme I think it just kills you. That's what those big, strangly-looking metal hands are for... go ahead, try it. See what happens.

  • how does it go about guessing - if that's what it does - the answers? I'm assuming that if it needs a certain level of confidence it doesn't have the answers?

  • @handplanty Yes, for every candidate answer, it calculates a % probability that it's correct. If a candidate answer is above a certain confidence threshold, it answers with that.

  • @handplanty HE does not guess. He has many many algorithms for determining possible answers. Over these many many "training" sessions he has actually learned which algorithms are most likely to be correct for the type of answer. Ex. A few AG (algorithms) for geology, a few for pop culture, and some for puns. They all "fire" at the same time and the best answers are given percent chances to be correct.
