I haven't heard enough Gorgons to make an intelligent comment. The one thing from them I just saw on You Tube was badly recorded (via a cheap camcorder, which is distracting) and came across more as a punk song than comedy, although you make a case that much punk performance by may punk groups is as over-the-top as Hawkins was, although I doubt most of them ever heard of Hawkins. it just goes to show that for every new thing out there, there's likely someone who did something similar earlier.
