  • Total genius. Talent and style, a rare duet.

  • Used to play his recs all the time, he must have been great live:)

  • Kinda funny that the band was drunk when they made this XD

  • This guy was the Mel Brooks of his day, and decades ahead of his time, entirely unafraid of making a mockery of witch doctors, as Brooks was unafraid to make a mockery of wacky Orthodox Jews.

SJH would make a mockery of everything from taking a shit to eating pussy. There was never anyone so far ahead of his time, as a comic, lyrically speaking.

  • Voodoo scat solo... Nice...

  • grandfather of Lady Gaga

  • @yaizpitera Fuck gaga, there's no comparison.

  • @clangersrule There are 77 fans of Lady Gaga that dislike this classic

  • @yaizpitera Hallelujah thanks your saying this too bad she never met this icon

  • @yaizpitera bull shit, wash yo mouth out with soap in herpes bitch.

  • @yaizpitera again shame on you for gettin fucked in tha ass by gentleman gaga pure bullshit statement, i gave you a throbbing thumbs down just like all shall do....

  • @yaizpitera

This dude was so far ahead of the curve in the entertainment business...I've loved him from the beginning...but just now, I realized how lonely he must have been. Thanks, bro, for all the memories.

  • @yaizpitera ...Because he has a massive cock

  • @yaizpitera FUCK YOU AND GAGA!!!

  • @yaizpitera Idiot- how could you even compare the two? You are what's a matter with society.

  • @yaizpitera yea definently

  • @yaizpitera I think Jay would take offense to that. Gaga is trash in comparison to his class.

  • @StonedBowser Yo. This is a 1965 recording of a performance broadcasted ini a British TV Station.

Like you said, you can't even compare these BS Gaga shit music company made recording "artists" of 55 years after SJH to him.

Forgetting Gaga, and commercial made trash like here, even Morrison couldn't wipe SJH's ass.

SJC was fucking light years ahead of his time. Nobody could hold a candle to what he did.

I've some selected REALLY outrageous SJH recordings referenced on my Channel...

  • @yourtreat2 Yeah. I know it's a 60's recording and he's dead. Also that dude Gaga is no artist.

  • @StonedBowser How much did YouTube.Google pay you to post that?

  • @yourtreat2 Not very much, but you gotta pay the bills somehow. :p

  • @yourtreat2 -"SJC was fucking light years ahead of his time. Nobody could hold a candle to what he did."

    Two words... Sun Ra.

  • the guy is insane

  • He needs a padded cell.

  • Impressing! a shaman singing blues.

  • Haha he does that head turn like Bernie Mac.

This is my first time seeing Screaming Jay Hawkins.. he's good. :P

  • what a great voice he had... BRAVO!!!

  • like much blues, was in concert with him in paris with my blues uncle of jazz blues and co

  • I bet the first time some people watched this they thought" this nigga is crazy as hell"

  • @dalzcrazyworld i am black by the way

  • This is why you never do crack, kids out there. Let this video be a learning experience.

  • Screaming Jay, Then Came Alice Cooper, Then Marilyn Manson, and now.... ugh.. Lady Gaga..

  • Um, this is kind of racist. A bit coon-like if you ask me.

  • @TheBasketCase1 Your comment is a "kind of racist" lol how ironic

  • lol! yessssss

  • What the fuck, this MF is funny as shit.

  • Holy shit this is awesome

  • Kick in the door!

  • this officially my favourite video and song!

  • y isn't he president?

  • @krazykid282 He died in 2000.

  • nice guitar playin in thebackround

  • @Oldspirit189 Yeah. The guitar playing on the original recording of the song was totally different. Very much in the realm of Jazz. Whereas this is clearly in the realm of blues (it's within a minor pentatonic scale).

  • Is this video for sure from 65? I found a video from 83 and i swear its the same footage but in color. Search for Screamin' Jay Hawkins Spell dusting

  • @CreepyStories Yeah. I found it via Google. It's B&W, by 83, broadcasts were in color, and everyone was playing disco shit.

It's easy to find, Search Google using a criteria like:

Granda TV I put a spell on you

    or

    Granda TV Screaming Jay Hawkins

  • @CreepyStories There IS another Vid that is the exact same as this B&W.

It's colorized. Do the Google Search I metnioned in my other post to you.

  • @yourtreat2 Cool, i was kind of bummed that it was from 83 since it was the earliest footage i had seen of Screamin' Jay Hawkins. It's much cooler being from the 60's.

  • Few realize that Screamin' Jay Hawkins was also a nuclear pioneer. "The Fathers of the Atomic Bomb" title was divided up between Edward Teller, Robert Oppenheimer and Screamin' Jay Hawkins. Long Story

  • that's what crack does to you. o well. awesome song anyways.

  • Wild!!!!!!

  • What a freakin voice! RAW TALENT!

  • This never gets old

  • his video's crazier than lady gaga's....luv it!

  • this guy is CRRREEEEEEEPPYYYYY!!!!!!!!!

  • hahahhaha i like the third comment

  • Terrible blues rendition.

  • @akolak284 What the fuck do you know about the blues you count faced prick.

  • this is my ring tone

  • I first heard Screamin Jay whilst watching an old episode of X-Files on Netflix. The song in that particular episode didn't seem like a real song to me so I hit Soundhound on my Android and it sure enough was real. I've liked Screamin Jay Hawkins ever since!

  • COCAINE!!!!!!

  • @prjctcivilian He put that bone in is nose cause cocaine ate a hole through it.......no shit....

  • @prjctcivilian Do you have any idea how rare cocaine use was in the US in 1965?

SJH wrote in "Heart Attack and Vine" "Do another line". I've seen people do lines of crushed "Black Beauty" pills. Heroin WAS widely available> Given the energy of this performance, if he did a line of anything it would have been Amphetamine. His drug of choice was booze. Watching he interviews. He experienced "black outs" subsequent to recorded songs. The studio version of this was.one such "black out" occasion.

  • I only came across this vid a couple of months ago & I keep coming back to it.. The guy was brilliant. Wiki mentions he was influenced by Paul Robeson & says he's regarded by some as a black Vincent Price.

Or maybe this jungle bunny persona was an outrageous piss-take of black stereotyping. Whatever his motives were, he was a terrific showman. What an incredible voice!

  • @Cabronosidad "I only came across this vid a couple of months ago & I keep coming back to it."

You, and over One Thousand other people per day like you do the same!

This 1965 vid has a steady following. I've been watching the numbers.

  • great song ...bryan ferry does a great rendition...but Jay's got it showing it's all his

  • Saw Screamin' Jay many times at the Palomino in N. Hollywood during the late 70's/early 80's. He was quite the Showman even as he got older.

  • everytime i hear this song, he puts a spell on me. amazing.

  • 70 people had a spell put on them.

  • His laugh gets me every time...and his voice...and his crazy eyes...Goddamn.

  • The first Alice Cooper.

  • Thing is this track is best as pure audio...or atn

  • @drongomala "Thing is this track is best as pure audio"

If you don't like the Vid, you can listen to just the audio, as he cut the song on records and it was subsequently recorded on many CD's.

Why you would not want to watch this particular Vid is beyond, me. However, to each there own.

  • I cant stop watching this...

  • It's kind of interesting, this Vid has been averaging over 1000 hits each day for the past 2 months.

That ain't bad for a Vid posted 2007, and a performance recorded in 1965.

    We love ya, SJH!!!

  • This guy was one of the best showmen ever! Great video!

  • great song

  • Geez!!! . 3,000 hits in 1 day. SJH's gone viral and is rockin' our socks off..

  • Kept cringed expecting some scary last BOUNCE BACK on stage as he headed out at the end.

    Haha! I love this.

  • Those are killer side-glances, eh? LOL

    Brilliant!!!

  • Love this !¡!

  • really looks like black face...

  • @Fruscianteistheman "eally looks like black face." You've just got your head stuck up your asshole. Pull it out, and take a look at your brown face.

  • Encore!!!!

No lame-ass muthafucka EVER touched dis.

  • Scream'in Jay was one bad mother fucker. That kind of showmanship in his era was unheard of. This song was so ahead of its time. What a legend!

  • @AllPro777 He was the original "shock rocker"... the character "screamin jay" was devised by Jay's manager when he got the idea as Jay recordered a similar version of this song drunk. The style stuck and a legend and genre was born. ; )

  • @AllPro777 NOOOOOOOOO HE SUCKS NO TALENT BEST PART OF THE VIDEO IS THE BACKROUND GUITAR FAGGET ASS WHITE BOY PALEHORSE

  • @Oldspirit189

First of all dumbass, I'm black. Secondly, if you're going to call someone a faggot, spell it right you illiterate moron. Third, stop typing in all caps like a fucking idiot.

Finally, eat a dick you dumb punk bitch.

  • Are you sure thats not Joe Jackson ??

  • Crazy as shit !

  • THIS IS AWESOME

  • DRUGS

  • 2:48 - i'Ma Get High !!!!

  • @djVandalTopV dude we was high from the start XD

  • what a performance!

  • If he was alive, Jay would be proud to know this vid has had about 17,000 hits in the past two weeks.

For a vid of a 1965 performance, that's about as viral as you can get..

We love your crazy ass, SJH!!!

  • Holy fucking shit! how is this not on Mtv ?!

  • i wonder how much pot i would have to smoke to wear that

  • Soz for the spellin' errors. My glasses are shit

  • You can Google:

    "Screamin Jay Hawkins" "spike lee"

These tow had a friendship. SJC was in small roles in several Spike Lee films, AND (because I have a good ear, as a fellow musician), I am certain that I heard SJC do a "Rap" especially for on of Spike Lee's earlier films. (I saw it yesterday, but I just can't recall the name. Soz.).

Just an interesting little factiod for you SJC and/or Spike Lee fans.

  • I put a spell on you classic. In The Hood. See How Many Monsters You Remember

  • Back in THE daze I saw him LIVE!!! Mind-blowing doesn't even begin to describe that evening!!! All had a grand albeit strange but wonderful time!!

  • @SupernalOne You're a really sensitive person.

Does it offend you when Willie Nelson wears a Cowboy hat and plays Country music?

Did you ever see various accouterments worn by people of various African tribes, or see various videos of African" Witch Doctors"?

Was it offensive to the see the Beatles having very long hair, when the trend had been for "crew" or "medium crew" hair cuts?

Nobody but racists ever saw African Americans as monkeys.

If you think his fans did, you're nuts.

    Chill, bra

  • Why would they waste an awesome song like this on a damn Buick commercial?

  • Why would they waste an awesome song like this on a damn Buick commercial?

  • redbull and ecstacy strike again

  • Greatness!! Pure Greatness!!

  • 75 baby mamas can't be wrong...

  • Nice to see where Marilyn Manso got this tune. awesome song. But Manson just does it better. Great source material, nonetheless.

  • @hare122275 Manson couldn't wipe this mans ass... without giving a lick

But we love you any how.

You put a spell on us.

    Abblluuuwwwawwwwa!!!

  • @PRESSRAT He probably would call this man DADDY in front of his own father.

  • @PRESSRAT 66 ppl who disliked this classic are fans of Manson

  • @PRESSRAT Who's Marilyn Manson? lol

  • ill have what hes smoking (except for crack or meth or coke or any other drug except for weed)

  • im trippin balls right now

  • WTF?!?!?!?!?!

  • I haven't heard enough Gorgons to make an intelligent comment. The one thing from them I just saw on You Tube was badly recorded (via a cheap camcorder, which is distracting) and came across more as a punk song than comedy, although you make a case that much punk performance by may punk groups is as over-the-top as Hawkins was, although I doubt most of them ever heard of Hawkins. it just goes to show that for every new thing out there, there's likely someone who did something similar earlier.
