Gore Vidal isn't that bright, pathos is all he got. 1) There aren't 2 billion muslims in the world. 2) US was not only the major power after 1945 because of military power but they were economically, educationally and culturally dominant. 3) US has pioneered far more in fields like education, electronics, technology and medicine than Cuba 4) US has nothing to teach Cuba? What about elections for a start or freedom of expression or a free press or allowing political dissidents like himself?
@olavm91 what US are you living in? you think we have free elections and a free press lol , we havent for a long time, and never will after citizens united
Even though I have great respect for him, Vidal's back and forth regarding Obama makes me wonder about his current level of astuteness. I remember when Hillary was the prime contender for the nom, the only candidate he respected was Kucinich (and Edwards to a certain extent) - he dismissed Obama pretty much as a poser. Then when Obama got the nomination it was all "well, he's more intelligent and honest than J.F.K." Is he really that sharp or just a highly amusing curmudgeon these days?
I see that this was posted in the summer of 2009. I wonder what Vidal would say now ? We are still bogged down in two wars and the oil speculators are having their way again and gouging the public.
Obama seems to have sold us out. He is just another pawn of the oligarchy and wall street and the banking industry have recovered but the public is still suffering. Socialism for the capitalists and free enterprise for us serfs.
you really want me to type out every single one of those names here? Please. Do a little research on your own. And - right back at you - how can you say all those people who you don't know about aren't telling the truth? Ignorance runs both ways, friend. (and btw I happen to be a big Vidal fan, but I'm sure he would be appaled by such sweeping generalizations such as yours.)
@kornpone It was sweepingly general, true. I just really like Vidal. As for the other thousand, & Chomsky, Goodman, If a tree falls and no one is there....
Oh, yes, Cuba is such a wonderful country that millions of its own citizens have left it in order to "spread the word." What a disgustingly fawning interview.
They are an island nation with a healthy population who seem to have maintained a tradition of respect for their elders which is also something we are lacking in the affluent 'west'. It's clear we need Vidal's revisionist attitude, or we are doomed to repeat the mistakes of the past. Teachers and Parents take note!
'God as a realtor'...hilarious. Must say, GV saves his best comments for his European interviews and interviewers. He also seems to be less cryptic in those circumstances. Wow, I didn't know Cuba where making there own electronics/medical devices? As I understand it, their great health system is based on preventative medicine. They are world leaders in vaccination, for example.
Proof that the very smart can be very stupid. A tinhorn dictatorship run by a megalomaniac who suppresses the press and dissident people and ideas... so much to learn from Cuba.
He's great. We may never get a man that lets us peer into real politics and power. If you listen closely his antithesis and their like are hidden behind closed doors. Alas he is of a different time and refreshingly cuts through the bullshit in the most elegant manner I've ever heard.
@kornpone Chomsky i've heard about, but not Goodman and the other thousand others. How are we getting the truth from people you CAN'T EVEN BOTHER TO NAME?
@DrCruel you are the weasel , chomsky too, at least gore vidal admits that 9-11 was mossad and cia unlike chomsky, though i thought he would be smart enough to know that obama was nothing more than another wall st puppet
@bulletproof2353 He's not smart at all - and, as you so aptly prove, neither are his fans. He's more of a long lived Leftist prima donna, but the source of his inane, self serving commentary is just about dried up. And good riddance.
i love vidal. brilliant man. obama makes no decision of his own. military industrial complex. they are the deciders. point being iraq and afghanistan. two endless wars. fighting a fabricated enemy. soldiers dying in vain. for what.? bring our troops home. the jig is up politicians. we know you lied to us about 911. al quaida is your made up enemy. you know these wars can never be won. they are meant to be perpetual. how many people need to keep dying for your bullshit wars. lying fucks murderers
Sir, have you read Conspiracy of the Rich by Robert Kiyosaki, or End the Fed by Ron Paul? Do you listen to the american Gerald Celente? You can find some of Mr. Celente's videos here on youtube.
i have not read the conspiracy of the rockefellers, or the rothschilds. i do listen to alex jones occasionally. i like congressmen ron paul. i do not like the privately owned federal reserve system. this country has been hijacked.
@MegaJustice2Your comment posted on a Youtube video is not going to get through. You need to action,as do all of us.The days of words are over. Can'tyou see how drastic the situation is inAmerica/the world alike? The only, ONLY way to take back this republic isREVOLUTION.Pens are mightier than swords?Wrong.Money is mightier than less money,&they already have that plus the reduction of I.Q.of the people.Achieved through decades of failed education, mass confusion, brainwashing,&entertainment,Godbless.
Interesting that the reporter thinks she is on a first name basis with the President. Gore sure hates Bush, he seems optimistic for Obama though. I think he is wrong about Cuba, still a dictatorship, but our policy with them is definitely wrong. He is right about Gaza, but it is not all one sided. Overall typical Gore.

I despise this man! He hates America and should be ignored. If he likes Cuba so much he can live there (I don't think he would live very long). (:

And of course this country never did anything of the kind! Perhaps someday you might stop pointing and look into our own house.

@bobstheking uh, noam chomsky, amy goodman, and about a thousand others not famous like Vidal, but just as truthful. don't be such a drama queen.

@bobstheking Not to worry. If this weasel meets his end, you'll still have Noam Chomsky.
