For the shadow add a layer mask the use the gradient tool, shift click and move the mouse up towards the feet. This will give you a nice fade to the shadow, finish with opacity and the eraser if needed.

the base rendering probably takes 1 or 2 hours to set up and render. Total post processing averages about 4 or 5 hours per illustration.

@hogrefal i don't wanna be rude, but i think that the shadow of the man at 8:25 it should be a bit lighter, like the column at the window. and you extended it too much, some times i feel it too to give a little dinamic. I wish you to give me a reply cause i am really curious why you choose to make like that. Sorry no ofense,this is only an opinion.
