There is a learning curve. If you get the game, I suggest you do your first campaign without any opposing empires. That way, you can learn about the ships, the tech tree, and the in game economy without worrying about your planets getting attacked. You can still fight space pirates with opponents turned off, so you can still get a handle on combat while your at it.

@gunpup77 By my calculations (and that's none, just looking at the minimum sys requirements) The most important ones are at least a 256mb direct x 9.0 chip, 512mb of ram and an Intel 4 at 1.8 ghz so yes. You beat the minimum system requirement tenfold mercilessly.

anyone know if i can play even the vanilla verison of this at a decent frame rate? i have an HP Pavillion DV4 1465dx laptop. 2.0 ghz duo, 6gb ram, but what i know is my biggest obstacle is the on board graphics (intel 4500MHD) ill be more than happy to tunr down the detail as long as it's playable. i appreciate the help.
