I dont understand why so many people are having trouble with the idea, of this not being underwater. In my mind Rapture does not equal bioshock. I think that Bioshock is the idea of people trying to build a utopia, but ultimately fail, because are are only human, and have greed for money and power. Rapture is one bioshock, Columbia is another.
This is a very interesting plot line and being in the air is going to make boss fights alot harder (falling off) so this will be really interesting. Just a little weird how it's 1912 and there able to put a freaking 67 ton building in the air with a couple of fans

I'm gonna get a lot of hate for this, but I've never played a Bioshock Game (I know) and from what I've seen it is set in a sewer-like environment or a place with rusty metallic corridors and lots of scary monsters and shizz. So what's up with the "Final Fantasy"-esque city and the bright colours?
Well, like you said, the first Bioshocks were set underwater/bottom of the ocean. That's why they looked all dark and dank and scary and all that nonsense.
The reason this one is so bright and different, is because.....well, it's in the sky now, instead of underwater.
My guess is this takes place before the first Bioshock, because things looked even more olden times meets a lot of technology than the last game. Bioshock 1&2 were really 50s, and I think this one may be 40s or 30s

This looks amazing! When I played the first bioshock I was simply blown away, it was one of the coolest games I had played (I got all 1100 gamer points for it). However I hardly touched Bioshock 2, I just got so bored of it., mainly because it was almost exactly the same as the first (Same environment, same gameplay, and hardly and new enemies or plamsids). But now I am realy looking forward to this one, new setting and everything. And come on, city in the clouds? Thats pretty awsome!!

@Quinlinsq3 well that isn't really true It will tie into the originals because this is going to be the prequel and we will see the inspiration for plasmids and rapture (speculation but I can guarantee you that wee will see this in the game)
actually, this game goes with the earliest style of steampunk, not because of the timeline in the story, look at wikipedia and you'll know why. Bioshock is not confusing, it's considered complex. if it was confusing, then it wouldn't make sense, even with explanation. But the inspiration for the idea of Bioshock came from a book by Ayn Rand in the 50's called, Atlas Shrugged. Look it up :)
All of the secrets of Rapture have been discovered and are beginning to be overdone. I like the idea of a city in the sky. It creative and innovative and it deserves the praise for being one of the first to make this risk. I give this game a 10/10 because of a new and detailed scenery and interesting looking plot.
The only thing that bothers me about Bioshock Infinity is that it's by a different Game developer. =-=...When 2k marin Game gave us Bioshock 2 there was a certain way about the way they told the story, a particular way that was extremely emotional (imho) about the Semi-good ending for 2. The only thing i hope is that irrational games can exceed the emotion envoking power of Bioshock 2. basically...in order for Irrational Games to be on par with Bioshock2...MAKE ME CRY AT THE ENDING. that's all

Bioshock has a haunting story, great voice-acting, fantastic atmosphere, chilling premise and interesting game mechanics (through plasmids) which are backed by a certain amount of science. The trouble is, the gameplay kind of sucks, which is bad as the gameplay accounts for at least 50% of a game's worth imo.
this game is at the top of my list it looks so good yes i have big hope for this since bioshock one is yet to budge from the top with mass effect two at a close second so which will it be? mass effect 3 or bioshock three which one sounds better? and which one will prove itself?

I mean change is good and I'm sure it will be a great game, with the original people working on it and all, but I will miss rapture. And this game is for 2012 so its gonna be a LONG time before we see rapture again, maybe even on new next gen consoles.

actually, this game goes with the earliest style of steampunk, not because of the timeline in the story, look at wikipedia and you'll know why. Bioshock is not confusing, it's considered complex. if it was confusing, then it wouldn't make sense, even with explanation. But the inspiration for the idea of Bioshock came from a book by Ayn Rand in the 50's called, Atlas Shrugged. Look it up :)

All of the secrets of Rapture have been discovered and are beginning to be overdone. I like the idea of a city in the sky. It creative and innovative and it deserves the praise for being one of the first to make this risk. I give this game a 10/10 because of a new and detailed scenery and interesting looking plot.

The only thing that bothers me about Bioshock Infinity is that it's by a different Game developer. =-=...When 2k marin Game gave us Bioshock 2 there was a certain way about the way they told the story, a particular way that was extremely emotional (imho) about the Semi-good ending for 2. The only thing i hope is that irrational games can exceed the emotion envoking power of Bioshock 2. basically...in order for Irrational Games to be on par with Bioshock2...MAKE ME CRY AT THE ENDING. that's all

@kitsuneflame Well It really would be good to play BioShock 1. You can find it for cheap or rent it. You will have plenty of time this won't be coming out till 2011 or 2012. But you REALLY should play them. They are a lot of fun. I'm actually a little dissapointed with the trailer.

This is not BioShock, and from what I understand the 3rd BioShock is still taking place in Rapture. This is a different game altogether. Like how BioShock was different from System Shock 2.

I know it was obviously what they intended, but I really thought it was great the way they make you think it's going to be just another underwater game, and then BAM, floating city.
Bioshock has a haunting story, great voice-acting, fantastic atmosphere, chilling premise and interesting game mechanics (through plasmids) which are backed by a certain amount of science. The trouble is, the gameplay kind of sucks, which is bad as the gameplay accounts for at least 50% of a game's worth imo.
