Yes John Bonham was a once in a life time genius, just like Keith Moon. They put everything into their grooves.I was lucky to see this band 2 nights running at Earls Court,London in 1975,3.5 hour sets!!
He and John Paul Jones, the bassist, probably the best rythmn section of all time.Even contemporary black session musicians are blown away by their playing and i have to argue in the studio they were white english guys!!
Is Led Zeppelin the only band from this era that didn't run around shooting their mouth off protesting the Viet nam war and trying to stir up trouble all the time.

@SqueezeMyLemonBabe There's no way presence is the worst Achilles last stand, for your life, nobodys fault but mine? have you listened to these songs? they are amazing let alone the fact they were recorded in 2 weeks.
I always wondered what the hard-core Zeppelin fans thought about this album (I'm too young to know, i could buy their CDs in whatever order I wanted to).
I mean, back in the early 70s when this came out, no one knew about Zeppelin IV (Zoso), or Houses of the Holy, and Physical Graffiti being on the horizon, so maybe everyone thought Zeppelin was going Folk for good ! I wonder if people were scared or nervous about that.
After 1 and 2, it was a bit of a shock to hear 3. And it took a while to accept it, in my case several years, an almost folk / C&W album, totally not heavy metal / progressive music. I thought they had lost it, and it was not until HOTH that my respect for them returned. The day that will live in my heart forever (sounds sh*t, and yes I know it) would be earls court in 1975.
True, it's a turn on their usual stuff. But you gotta give them credit for having such a strong passion for music and being influenced to try new sounds.
"Since I've been Loving You" has always been a more personal favorite of mine.
early teens when this came out; expecting more of Zep 2 but listened, accepted and realized how great this album really was; still talking about it today; for the hardcore and real Zeppelin fans John Bonham's drums ALWAYS keep it rock and roll
It's before my time as well, but Zep I, II and III led to IV. There are hints at this style on the first two albums. Babe I'm Gonna Leave You, Black Mountain Side, What Is And What Should Never Be, Ramble On....they just didn't have the hardcore blues on this album. As John Paul Jones said, "Nobody compared us to Black Sabbath after this album."
i was in my friends car today and he was flipping through the radio station i heard the intro 0n 103.5 and i yelled ZEPPELIN! then they played dazed and confused, we jammed.
Can you imagine for those old enuff to remember her Janis Joplin taking the stage (had she not passed) and singing this with both vocal barrels BLASTING!?!!!!
Man, it just doesn't get any better. I bought first album, LZ4 in the 70's, and still today I listen to these songs and hear things I missed or hadn't noticed before.
Zep gives credit to every artist they ever sampled....they took american blues and brought it back to america so everyone could here it...only amplified....if it werent for zep and sabbath and many others this whole f'n country would be stuck listening to country!!! Idiots....our whole country was too ignorant to pay attention until a couple of WHITE ENGLISHMEN slapped us in the face with it!! so shut th f@ up and appreciate good music

almanac, you still ranting about plagurism? Geez man, can you think of anything other then that? You realize that everybody uses the same words all the time? I just did and you just did! So Idon't know what you think your point is!
Didn't anyone ever tell you this: Life isn't fair. I learned this in the third grade. And in these times with our self serving politicians life is REALLY not fair. Not fair
Funny how you can't get over anything! So can you tell me how exactly this effects you? So why is it you are so angry? Did Led Zep take money or words from you? I don't think they did and I think you're on the Zep threads just to fight!
looks like you carn't take the fact that they did something bad, they took money and words from a marginaised group of people, many of them lived below the poverty line. How can you defend this? You carn't your only come back is some bullshit about "musical tradition" which is something that has come straight out of your arse.
what do you want me to do stop listening to Zeppelin? That would be impossible to do since there in every cd case I've got. In the car about 10 cd's in the cd case/car. In the house about 12 in the cd case/house. What would I listen to when I wanted to hear the zeppelin/blues? Can you answer that question? What would I listen to?
almanc I listened to the video response that is not as good as zep doing it! So what your saying is no one should play any music someone else has played?? If that's the case then no one should sing the national anthem either?? And there sould never be any remakes of any songs or let's see movies, for instance planet of the apes and king kong! And all the church hymes shouldn't ever be sang again, since the church is making money on them! Sing and pass the tihten plate!
I couldn't get no silver I couldn't get no gold. Hang man hold it a little while. I think I see my brother. my brother he's coming to help me, he's going to save me, my
It's a folk song that was credited as a "traditional, arranged by page and plant." Led Zeppelin never claimed they wrote it. What are you complaining about, again?
Oh yeah could have been because they werehoe do you say sued up the Jacksee for all those copywrite infringements they did and were forced to give credit viva court orders.
No? My original copy of the record cites it as a traditional. Even if they hadn't, you can't sue someone for "stealing" a folk song, as no one owns the rights.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Look at all the other song Led Zepplin stole, I don't see why Led Zep fans are in denial even Led Zepplin themselves amit to plagurism so deal with it.
I haven't said anything about the "other song." Gallows Pole was not stolen from Lead Belly, as it is a folksong, and all of your comments implying such have been factually wrong.
If you want to rant about Led Zeppelin in general, I'm sure you can find a blog host or something that will let you do that. You can make up all the drivel you want about Gallows Pole infringing on copyright.
I bet you would claim Led Zeppelin was behind 9/11 if it would keep you from admitting you were wrong about them violating copyright law to steal from Lead Belly for this song.
So your comments about plagiarism had absolutely no relevance to Gallows Pole or Lead Belly? You're just one of those frothing-at-the-mouth trolls who rages at every Led Zeppelin video they can find?
Clearly Youtube is the appropriate - no, ideal - venue for you to carry out your holy crusade.
Well I like the No Quarter Gallows Pole very much but yes I agree this is more pleasant to listen to. Plant's voice is much better and stronger in this version. Thanks for watching, Im glad you enjoy it.
Zeppelin III could possibly be my favorite album..amazing. If you can, look for 'How the West was Won'. It's a compilation of many of their live shows in the U.S., hence the name. Some of the best live versions you'll ever hear on disc.
I honestly have no clue how some people can say this is one of their worst albums this is one of my favorite it has some really extraordinary songs on there. However, my favorite album would be Zeppelin II because thats the album that got me into Zeppelin and Ive liked it since.
What I meant was, Led Zeppelin derived their version from a folk song. Of course, Zeppelins version is a folk song but they "Zepped" it up I guess you could say.
Best Zep song!

Funny how you can't get over anything! So can you tell me how exactly this effects you? So why is it you are so angry? Did Led Zep take money or words from you? I don't think they did and I think you're on the Zep threads just to fight!
RELIGIONBAD 3 years ago
looks like you carn't take the fact that they did something bad, they took money and words from a marginaised group of people, many of them lived below the poverty line. How can you defend this? You carn't your only come back is some bullshit about "musical tradition" which is something that has come straight out of your arse.
almanacofsleep 3 years ago
what do you want me to do stop listening to Zeppelin? That would be impossible to do since there in every cd case I've got. In the car about 10 cd's in the cd case/car. In the house about 12 in the cd case/house. What would I listen to when I wanted to hear the zeppelin/blues? Can you answer that question? What would I listen to?
prdot 3 years ago
The real thing.
almanacofsleep 3 years ago
Yeah>? well what's the real thing. I'm clueless. Explain yourself.
prdot 3 years ago
well go look at that video response for a start.
almanacofsleep 3 years ago
What CD would I replace for Led Zeppelin?
prdot 3 years ago
David Cassidy
almanacofsleep 3 years ago
Are you out of your mind? >LOL!!
Yeah, like I would listen to the song David
Cassidy sings, "I think I Love You"...but what am I so afraid of......afraid that I'm not sure of a love there is no cure for? LOL.
prdot 3 years ago
almanc I listened to the video response that is not as good as zep doing it!
RELIGIONBAD 3 years ago
You can play what ever you want, but I only got a problem if you try to claim you wrote it.
almanacofsleep 3 years ago
I couldn't get no silver I couldn't get no gold. Hang man hold it a little while. I think I see my brother. my brother he's coming to help me, he's going to save me, my
brother he's going to .....

Also Led Zep arn't fit to carry Lead Bellys shoes.
almanacofsleep 3 years ago
It's a folk song that was credited as a "traditional, arranged by page and plant." Led Zeppelin never claimed they wrote it. What are you complaining about, again?
zls88 3 years ago
Oh yeah could have been because they werehoe do you say sued up the Jacksee for all those copywrite infringements they did and were forced to give credit viva court orders.
almanacofsleep 3 years ago
No? My original copy of the record cites it as a traditional. Even if they hadn't, you can't sue someone for "stealing" a folk song, as no one owns the rights.
zls88 3 years ago
This comment has received too many negative votes show
Look at all the other song Led Zepplin stole, I don't see why Led Zep fans are in denial even Led Zepplin themselves amit to plagurism so deal with it.
almanacofsleep 3 years ago
Strawman much?
I haven't said anything about the "other song." Gallows Pole was not stolen from Lead Belly, as it is a folksong, and all of your comments implying such have been factually wrong.
If you want to rant about Led Zeppelin in general, I'm sure you can find a blog host or something that will let you do that. You can make up all the drivel you want about Gallows Pole infringing on copyright.
zls88 3 years ago
I bet if you found Robert Plant stealing your T.V you would make up some excuse to why he has the right to.
almanacofsleep 3 years ago
I bet you would claim Led Zeppelin was behind 9/11 if it would keep you from admitting you were wrong about them violating copyright law to steal from Lead Belly for this song.
zls88 3 years ago
I wasn't talking about Lead Belly per sey just how Led Zepplin are theiving gimps
almanacofsleep 3 years ago
So your comments about plagiarism had absolutely no relevance to Gallows Pole or Lead Belly? You're just one of those frothing-at-the-mouth trolls who rages at every Led Zeppelin video they can find?
Clearly Youtube is the appropriate - no, ideal - venue for you to carry out your holy crusade.
zls88 3 years ago 2
Oh I'm sorry did I hurt your feelings? :'( poor baby.
almanacofsleep 3 years ago
Are you serious? Is that all you have? I haven't heard that one since grade school.
Oh, wait, Youtube comments, lowest common denominator of human intelligence, right. Carry on.

Zanman450 3 years ago
The original song that all of these are based on is a folk song.
Led Zeppelin credited as "traditional, arranged by Page and Plant."
What are you complaining about?
zls88 3 years ago 3
Do you like repeating yourself?
almanacofsleep 3 years ago
Imagine those that remember her if JANIS JOPLIN covered this song? She'd blast it!

MUCH BETTER THAN 1994's No Quarter
csavan90 4 years ago
Well I like the No Quarter Gallows Pole very much but yes I agree this is more pleasant to listen to. Plant's voice is much better and stronger in this version. Thanks for watching, Im glad you enjoy it.

The Original Is Great!

Zeppelin III could possibly be my favorite album..amazing. If you can, look for 'How the West was Won'. It's a compilation of many of their live shows in the U.S., hence the name. Some of the best live versions you'll ever hear on disc.
FruitpunchFTW 4 years ago
I honestly have no clue how some people can say this is one of their worst albums this is one of my favorite it has some really extraordinary songs on there. However, my favorite album would be Zeppelin II because thats the album that got me into Zeppelin and Ive liked it since.
SqueezeMyLemonBabe 4 years ago
led zeppelin III was called their worst album because of how mellow and bluesy it was
people expected pop or heavy rock or somethin
when they got this they were confused (by its excellence of course)
AZNman11111 4 years ago 2
I have it and I think its great, for those of you who dont know they were origanaly a blues band.
Flameboyx120 4 years ago
This is one of my favorite Zeppelin albums, I love the acoustic tracks!
SqueezeMyLemonBabe 3 years ago
It's totally my favorite Zeppelin albums. This album is one of the most under appreciate album of all time.

Heard this version many times, but I have never heard Leadbelly's version. Is it really that good?
giantsfanshawn 4 years ago
Yes. Found it by accident few months ago.
ocvirk 4 years ago
Yeah. It IS a folk song. I have Lead Belly's version.
ocvirk 4 years ago
What I meant was, Led Zeppelin derived their version from a folk song. Of course, Zeppelins version is a folk song but they "Zepped" it up I guess you could say.
