Good Video! Someone threw away a rod and reel cause of a bad backlash. Picked it up and followed this video and now i got a "new" reel. For some reason i had to put the handle in the same way because it would go on crooked the other way.
this is a good video bro., very informative. I was afraid to take my reel apart bcuz i might not know how to put it back together again. but now i'm going to clean mine too. thanks to u....
what is your point? that fishing caters to rednecks. that rednecks dont like mexicans and arabs? or garcia is a mexican name (i think more than just mexicans are named garcia) ? or is it that mexicans and arabs dont like to fish? your message is very confusing. maybe you are gay.
I found a pole with this exact same model reel on a kayak trip down the Llano River this weekend! The pole was trash, but the reel was fine. It was caked with mud, but I managed to take it apart and get it running thanks to this video! Thanks for posting!
This is a great video, just what I needed since I ordered a levelwind upgrade for my pro rocket. Didnt think it was that easy to take apart and put back together
i got an ultra sonic cleaner. use 10:1 water/simplegreen for all painted and plastic parts. clean bearings and gears in sealed jar of acetone and place jar in machine full of water. my ABUs are much smoother and faster than anybody on the dock. oh and get a bearing idler gear and dual bearing levelwind.
This video presentation is SUPER. I found that to take the "e clip" out and not to get it into your eye or loosing it..put the reel part into a clear plastic bag and remove it. It can never fly into your eye or fly some where you never find it again. It has worked for me. any comments ????
wow im such a noob @ my new A.G Ambassadeur "One" 5000
After running it wet and getting sand in it after a trip to the river, (not to mention the many birds nests i got) I came home and watched this vid for the 3rd time to clean and take it apart....
Nice video and all
but i have been taking apart and reassembling for the past week now, and sometimes i get it right, and the reel works fine, but the other times I screw up somewhere and the spool becomes hard to turn ? any pointers for a noob
Pretty much just practice practice practice. As you go along with the reassemble turn stuff to make sure it's spinning and double check everything. Don't go on to the next step until you are sure everything have been done correctly up to that point. I also have those 'aww what the hell!" moments!
i am trying to clean several pro max 1600 and 3600 plus black max 1600 and 3600, what is the tool u mention to keep the handle piece from hitting your eye? also do u know where to get drag washeres for these? help!!!!
Try to locate the schematic of your model (either in your home or the net). Locate the part number for the drag washers of your particular reel and call or visit a dealer.
This video is excellent. I have two older abu reels (5000 and 5500a). They were my grandfather's and apparently when I was younger I took them apart and lost the tiny brown balancers on the inside left of the reel. I didn't see them in your video. Are you familiar with these pieces and if so do you know how I might get replacements?
I would try to find your manual (on the net if you have to, shouldn't be too hard). Somewhere in there you will find a schematic of how your real is assembled along with numbers and names for every part. Once you determine what you are missing you can call a dealer or visit their shop and order the parts you need.
Cutting it?? Perhaps between the edge of the spool and the sideframe. If not, check the line guides on your rod and make sure the ceramic or plastic ring isn't broken or cracked. If your rod looks fine try a line that is either a little thinner or a little thicker. Not permanently just long enough to make sure it isn't getting pinched somewhere.
Took my Ambassadeur 5500C3 apart and found some line caught inside the spool and sideframe. You're correct, the sidewall was cutting my line. After watching your video on how to clean the reel, I am going to take it apart and clean it. What type of line would you suggest I try to prevent it from being cut. Thanks.
I have never owned or taken apart a 6500ct. I looked at one last night and it seems to differ a bit from the reel I taped here and most others that are similar to it.
It seems the 6500ct has a fair amount of magnetics involved, probably for the spool break and possibly the line guide. Magnetics can be touchy if you don't the correct process when re-assembling so I would look into it a little more before you take it apart. There are a lot of sources on the net that might help you. Good luck!
VERY nice work. I post to several fishing forums, and I'll refer visitors to your tutorials. Several folks have left photo essays in the threads, and your work, coupkled with theirs, will make for an very smooth repair. Thanks again !!!!!
Can't tell you how much I appreciated this little tutorial. I just inherited 3 Ambassadeur 5500 from my dad, all in major need of TLC. Thanks for taking time to make this.
Nice tutorial!

I think it's funny that a sport that caters to rednecks has product that has both an Arab and a Mexican name in it's logo. LOL

@southrules abu Garcia is Swedish

@RandyRhoads806
Although that has nothing to do with my point, thats pretty funny too!

@southrules i meant youre point makes no sence indians and mexicans have nothing to do with the name
RandyRhoads806 1 year ago
@RandyRhoads806
First, it's SENSE. Second, what does that have to do with the origin of the two names? Like I said, you missed the point.

Um, while thats not true, I would be fine with that as I have total respect for Arab's and Mexicans. Once again, point missed.

The tool has various names but, but the part you are trying to remove is called a C-clip. C-clip pliers would be a good place to start.

Try to locate the schematic of your model (either in your home or the net). Locate the part number for the drag washers of your particular reel and call or visit a dealer.
